I wouldn't send Doc in first. If there is a particularly nasty attack round, we don't want the healer going down. Chromir will be using his greataxe in both hands so won't have a torch so Cassian carrying one would be appreciated. I am happy to volunteer Chromir to go first, as he has a high HP and can reduce damage on himself too (both rage and stone's endurance)
Sure, that's fine with me! I forgot we're level 1 so yeah, don't want to risk Doc going down. Cass can go second with the torch unless the others want to go before him.
Navrine could probably go after Chromir or Cass, And can hold a torch in her off hand since she attacks bare handed? That way you can have the shield boost? Plus im pretty stealthy +5 (though probably not with a tourch in hand) :)

Why does doc want to go first? (in terms of, what benefit does it give over the current roll which is still before the rats)
It can preserve the action economy as well.
If someone drops during the fight, and the cleric heals them, they can take an action in that turn (as long as their init count falls after the healing).
If their init count falls before the healing occurs, however, the character's action that round was to be unconscious and make a death saving throw.
The cleric can still heal them of course, but in that instance the revived character does not get to take additional actions as their place in the current round’s action has already come and gone.
Activating rage is a bit confusing for 2024 (haven't played a 2014 barb). Just marking that you've used it doesn't actually activate it; you have to go to the features tab and click on it, then scroll to the bottom and choose it from a drop-down menu. Then it will add your extra damage automatically.
I had discovered that (and activated it). And I have played a 2014 barb and it was not the same. But that is because it had no functionality to apply the rage effects and it had to all be done manually.
@Johnny2136, Feel free to declare actions for this round and roll any dice that might be needed.
PbP can make things weird that would not be weird at a face to face table game.
Like … at a table game, it might only take 5 seconds to wait until the folks ahead of you declare actions, roll their dice, and find out how it all turned out. Then you take 5 more seconds and take your turn.
For PbP though, that might mean waiting for 17 different posts, which is no fun.
So it is generally cool for each player to just lump everything they intend to do in one post (roll init, declare movement, declare actions, make attack rolls & damage rolls, etc).
After every player posts their intentions and associated rolls, most DM’s will make a post that summarizes the round and lets everyone know how their actions turned out and also what actions the opponents took.
Ok sounds resonable, but seem like if we are on a stair and in a marching order then I guess would it be like:
(init xx) Navrine sees the two folks ahead of me rush into combat, I jump toward the nearest foe and do an unarmed strike against the nearest rat. (attack roll XX if the attack hit it would do XX amout of damage) Bonus action: Unarmed strike I lash out my foot with a round house kick to the rats face (attack roll XX if the attack hit it would do XX amout of damage). This ends my turn.
A minor critique would be to ditch the first person narrative tense. (This OOC is the exception to that of course. As You and I are having an ongoing conversation … so it makes perfect sense to be written in first person)
But an IC (or ‘In Character’) post is different. A first person post in the IC looks a bit out of place.
Basically, think of each post as part of a story. You get to write a paragraph or two, then another player does, then the DM does and we -each of us- get to craft this really cool adventure that ends up enjoyable to read and be a part of.
Over in the IC thread, if you cut out all of the ‘who posted what’ and the avatars and timestamps and whatnot that accompany each post … and someone just cut-and-pasted each player’s post into a word document … it would kinda, sorta look like a novel.
One of the defining characteristics that helps those posts to seamlessly go together is that most people write their posts in a similar narrative POV. (In this case, third person)
Regarding tense. I’m not a huge stickler for whether someone should be using past or present tense in their posts (and I often find that I drift between the two).
But if I had to pick one … I would say that third person, past tense would be the default style that most PbP posts should be typed in.
Basically though, there is no incorrect way to play the game as long as everyone is having fun.
It can be a bit intimidating, trying something new. But one of the best ways to learn something is by doing. I would take a look at what other folks have been posting and then craft a post that mirrors that style.
As other questions pop up, feel free to take it to the OOC and ask away!

I feel like the failed intimidation roll would only effect the gnome's view of Chromir, especially if Navrine was being 20 persuasion nice.
Anyway, is Cassian's investigation roll a wash? Just let me know and I'll have him go back inside.
Apologies. In my haste to get something posted for the intimidation/persuasion attempts to influence … I did not notice the investigation roll.
Cassian learns nothing of significance looking at the ruins.
Alright gang ... our first encounter.
With your next IC post please let me know what, if anything your character is holding (torch, shield, weapon, etc).
If you would like to make any other preparations prior to the descent (spells, etc), please let me know that as well.
The staircase to access the cellar level is quite narrow, permitting single file only.
The marching order will be 'set' by the order in which the IC posts arrive.
Feel free to discuss plans here in the OOC thread if you want, or just post in the IC.
As far as strategy, I think it would be best for Doc to go first since he has darkvision and high AC.
Cassian can carry a torch for him and the others to see, but he will need to unequip his shield.

After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)

^^ All part of the test drive. Good catch!

I've never played by post before, I hope I'm doing this correctly? Combat seem like it would be a challange in PbP?
