Chipper can go ahead and buy those for full price or roll persuasion to barter.
Persuasion: 11+1 = 12 He tries to talk to the sellers about repeat business being in the future and potentially recommending other customers to them. [[ Though not sure that roll is high enough for a discount. ]]

After purchasing his wares, Chipper finds the sight of a proclamating Amelia and thinks to himself, She's certainly got spirit.
He finds a nearby tree and quickly finds a seat in one of the branches. He sends Skipper over to perch near the group and listens through his familiar's senses. After the man tells the tale he calls out, "What curse befell him?" he asks, "Seems a rather pertinent part of the story."
"Ah, then...why was he cursed?" Kessintra adds on to Chipper's thought absentmindedly, still recovering from her odd trance. None of the spirits had ever spoken through her like that before... Whatever was attached to the lyre was willing her to take on this quest as well, it seemed. "Knowing more might help us break it without having to kill him."
Garrick hears the tale and finds himself nodding subconsciously along with the man’s words. I agree with Kess, more information might help us life this curse rather than ending the prince’s life. It seems his is worth saving.
He also buys a bag of ball bearings (1gp). He doesn’t bother haggling.
Zan chuckles, Good story, reminds me of oh, about a hundred others just like it I've heard in my time. He stands, pulls a gold piece from his pouch and hands to the "elder", for you time and the tale. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm late for a meal and a meeting. He turns and heads in the direction of the noble's house.
"If both ways are just as dangerous, then...it depends on him, doesn't it? But first, I suppose we shouldn't miss the Duchess's dinner." It may be a long time before they can enjoy such a lavish meal again. She turns to follow Zan.
(She'll also buy a disguise kit. Persuasion 19 to haggle.)
Chipper frowns at the man's caginess with information. Oh well, only to be expected with a new contact. Perhaps the next meeting would go better. Calling Skipper back to him and dismissing the owl into a pocket dimension he bids a fond farewell to the man.
"Indeed," he concurs with Kess, "let us head to that dinner. A man can only eat so much salted jerky before he begs for a change." he says with a smile.
A cool autumn breeze blows through the streets as you make your way to the keep. When you arrive the guards immediately usher you all into the dining hall. Sitting at the head of the table and wearing an ivory dress is who you can presume to be the duchess. She holds her hands together in front of her, looking down. You can see she's tense.
In front of her is a hot, spicy soup and tenderly cooked pheasant. Similar plates are laid out in front of five other seats.

Garrick smiles at the duchess. He takes a seat near the middle. I hope you don’t take offense, but as a wandering adventurer I’ve grown accustomed to putting safety above all else. What I’m about to do reflects not upon your hospitality or character but more upon the life I’ve chosen to lead. He then raises his hands over the table and ritual casts purify food and drink.
Amelia takes a seat at the dinner table. While she greets the duchess and expresses her gratitude, part of her mind still replays the old man’s words. Barovia, the shadowed land of prophecy, is a dangerous place with a tyrant she must one day confront.
(Are we truly ready? Is there anything we must prepare before we depart?)
A tense dinner...It feels faintly, disturbingly like home, though Leestride can hardly compete with the horrors of Menzoberranzan. Kessintra gives a small nod of approval as Garrick cleanses the meal; a completely understandable precaution. Judging from the Duchess' demeanor, the guard earlier had been correct that she had more to ask of them. She does her best to be polite and enjoy the food, particularly enjoying the heat of the soup, as she waits for the noble to reveal more.
Zan takes a seat, trying to recall what etiquette for formal dinners he learned all those years ago in his elven home, attempts to make a good show of it as they eat, performance check if needed, rolled an 8.
"Etiquette is not needed," the duchess replies, "but the effort is appreciated."
Her voice is melancholy. "I hate to admit it, but I have a favor to ask. You all know of the fortune tellers who recently arrived, yes? They've been causing some.... trouble."

"They seemed harmless at first, but I have received reports that they have begun harassing townsfolk as they come and go, demanding money and wine, and threatening to put hexes on anyone who doesn’t pay up."
"Yesterday, the I ordered several guards to scare away the mysterious visitors, but they couldn’t get the job done. When the guards returned, they spoke sympathetically about the visitors. It seemed as if the guards had been magically charmed."
Yes that does seem to be an issue if the reports are true. Frankly speaking, why summon us and what do you want us to do about it? I’m sure even their magics couldn’t affect your entire law enforcement if you desired to force them out.

The elder smiles at both the song and Amelia's response.
"Good. I suggest you and any companions tie up loose ends before we leave. You will not exit Barovia for a long while."

The duchess seems to be the more pressing issue. And that dinner does sound good. Let’s see what she has to say.
To the man: meet us at the inn tomorrow morning and we can discuss potentially going with you.

We have met some of them. They might be eccentric, but they don’t seem troublesome. What seems to be the problem with them?
