According to the rules in Xanathar's Guide to Everything, crafting a basic potion of healing requires a minimum level of 3rd, proficiency with an Herbalism Kit or Alchemist's Supplies, a 25 gp cost for materials, and one day of work. The character must also have access to the cure wounds spell or a spell scroll of it and a spell slot to cast it during the crafting process.
Thank you! If you wish that can be an ongoing Downtime Activity. You'll produce 7 Potions of Healing per week. Just remember to update your inventory to account for it. You can drop your extras off at the Guild to be sold for twice its cost, unless you intend to be a traveling Dr. Zed's vending machine... just pumping out heals.
Merkas is searching for the lost 3 towers of mega magic to build a wheel of ultimate power...
Sera will go pick flower to make nice herb tea...
Some people are destinied for greatness :D
I read this before I read IC and was wondering how a fancy map table became Mega Magic Mage Towers.
Now I get it and there’s a lot to be discussed about that particular quest line. I don’t want to take over the game with Merkas’ side quests, so any decisions will have to be done together.
It's actually a tie-in from a previous campagin I made that took place in Hepmonaland. It's a very dangerous, high level quest. But it would solve the problem quicker that crafting the item from scratch.
There's a catch 22 to it that needs to be considered. The stronger your magic (and the more you use it) the more likely you are to go mad in Ibra Down. But low level casters would have no chance of surviving the horrors that exist there. Casters will need to be strong, but frugal with their magic. Use only as needed. Entering Hepmonaland with give you a new stat: Sanity. Non-casters, like fighters, monks, rogues, and barbarians, are immune to the spellplague. But casters, like Sera, Merkas, and Ne'Haredowell will need to succeed on Sanity rolls to avoid going crazy. The DC starts at 5+Spell Level. But frequent usage of spells can cause the DC to go up.
Yeah I thought of that. But I also think it will be fun to work out. DM has given us plenty of options on how to get it into the game. Now we just need to decide if it’s worth chasing.
We already rejected the scythe the whole campaign was named after, secretly saved an entire kobold society and bronze dragon egg, cleared out most of the Sargonnas cult at half the player levels intended, and Merkas carries the most comprehensive book of hellish profanities ever written.
Why not head off to another plane of existence, search through a magical ghost town of a city that threatens to drive most of the party mad and lock us up.
I start to think on old Planescape adventures now.I think Planescape worked better with Ad&d since it was much more about hitting and not take damage as in DnD 5e. And much more save or Die options. Combat not drag out like 5e. ( problem was it was so incredible many powerful beings combat kinda dragged outvanyway)
@Dm, Hastos is looking to see what bows Kasi has available. I don’t know if it’s worth RPing out, or if you just want to handle it here in OOC. Either way is fine, I just don’t want to drag the pacing down for anyone.
If you decide to take the Hepmonaland route, I'd take Ororana and Cyrus with you. Gladiators don't have class levels, but with 112 HP and Multi-attack, he can soak up some real damage. Kasi, as another magic user, and now a councilmember of Santekh, would be more of a liability in a place cursed by a spellplage.
Just FYI, when Cyrus takes class levels, they'll lose their template. Which means their HP will take a tumble. But an extraplanar quest will be so long, that they're likely to power level in the process.

I've never ventured far from plain old D&D, so I've never tried Planescape. Most of my games presume the existence of a multiverse, so you'd think I'd be all about it. But I cut my teeth on D&D 3.5, and basically skipped over 4e. It took a really long time for me to come around to 5E And to do it, I had to delete all my 3.5 archives so I wouldn't be tempted to go back to it. As such, Ravenloft, Planscape, LOTR, anything that wasn't Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Eberron, or Dragonlance (which I mainly use as wallpaper for vanilla DND) just wasn't in my wheelhouse.
But I've found I've never really needed anything else. Any campaign someone has described in other play styles... there's a mechanic for it in vanilla DND.
If you are concerned with the speed at which gameplay takes in combat, there are ways to short-form it:
Simplify Initiative: We can have a DM turn and a Players turn. The DM goes first if you're surprised. The Players go first if the Monsters are surprised. The order will be determined by the highest WIS score. Cons: It takes turned-based strategy out of combat, disallows Initiative advantages for those who would've gotten high rolls or built their character/equip to land at the top of initiative.
Simplify Mapping: Taking mapping out of the game will make it to where your player is always where they need to be when they make their attack. You no longer have to think about movment, encumberment, and action range, so you can get right down to the nitty gritty of killin' varmits. Cons: It takes terrain adv/dis out of the equation and eliminates the visual component of the game.
Auto-Init/Auto-Attack: Your Initiative is always 10+DEX unless you have an item that changes that result. Any target creature who's AC is equal to or less than 10+Your Attack Score is automatically hit. Damage is always average in that case. If you have to roll Attack and you crit, Damage is always maxed. Cons: Less likely to deal high damage, no risk of missing weaker enemies.
4th Wall: I will reveal the AC and HP of each creature in a battle sequence, so you know as soon as you roll whether or not it hits, and how close to being defeated it is. Cons: Less suspence.
Cinematic: If the encounter is Trivial, Easy, or Medium, I can run the encounter as a cutscene. It can all be handled in one post, and your damage received, slots used, treasure, and XP will be laid out in a bulleted list at the end of the narration. Cons: Takes away player agency, and it doesn't allow for surprise outcomes, or alternate outcomes (i.e. befreinding the enemies)
All of these have been used in PbP, due to the sluggish nature of progress in these games. The most favored one is Simplify Initiative, but I've always disliked being a player those games. I build high in DEX usually. You can't kill what you can't hit, and that gives me a good chance at being at the top of the round to knock out mooks that would gum up initiative, freeing the casters to safely do their job in combat. Simplified Initiative takes that from me and makes it hard to engage in the strategy aspect of combat, which I truly enjoy!
Frankly, battle is currently being run the way I like best. The terrain can be used; strategy can be employed; teamwork is essential... it's great! But I acknowledge that its greatest weakness is that a single battle can take weeks to play in PbP. Especially if I have to remind players through PM that their turn has been up for more than 24 hours. And 5e has very high HP monsters, so the battles take even longer. It's our game, not just mine. So I'm more than willing to be flexible with how the game is played.
I KNEW IT!!! Dana is actually the leader of the sargonas cult and had been scoping out Kasi the whole time to get information from her about the letni inhelk and create the massacre of the kobold clan, she uses the candles to keep people from being suspicious of her and to turn people from finding the truth.
At least that’s what I figured Hastos would find out when he went to see her but he decided not to ask any questions about her questionable actions and just walk away to find a toy bow…..
Merkas meanwhile is carrying a possesed book in a bag of holding, being enticed to go to a magic city that will drive him mad, and all the while he’ll be riding a Giant Strider from the plane of fire….
Ororana has been added to the Players list. I put her potions in Party Equipment, so they can be shared as needed. She likes to keep 6 in her purse, but she has backstock in her home. She always carries 1 Rare Potion. The rest are Uncommon or Common.
