Its a long rest calculator, it considers those with Dark vision, 4 hr meditations, and those with lowest hit points. as per this calculator we will need 10hrs for each person to get an 8hr rest (6hr sleep with 2hr light activity). Assuming Kasi is taking a turn at watch, 2hr shifts, and taking the IC narrative into consideration that gives us 5 members to assist with the watch and the order would be something like this:
Merkas/Sharn
Kasi/Merkas
Hastos/Kasi
Hastos/Sera
Hastos/Sera
If this is to complex, and ruins narrative then ignore me just thought I would put this up.
Sharn: Don't ever worry about bringing up topics with Merkas, he's always ready to talk
InexorableTruth: Does Kasi bringing the jackal back make it so we dont' expend rations for this first day?
No rations need to be spent, unless you're uncomfortable with eating jackal. 😅 Kobolds can eat almost anything, and canonically can be pretty messy eaters. She's doing the courtesy of cooking it for you. But if Sharn and Merkas are interested in salvaging any parts of it for alchemical ingredients, you may want to get in there before she starts gnawing on the bones.
I'll post in a minute. Right now I'm managing the finances, and that requires most of my attention. But first, I gotta tell y'all something wild!
I got a scam from someone pretending to be ICE. They spooked the number, had a badge ID and even walked me through the DHS website, telling me that someone had made a passport in my name in Germany. At about that time, I got a call from my local police department (spooked number again) telling me that there was a warrant for my arrest and they needed an e-mail from an ICE agent to confirm that I'm cooperating with DHS. I've been arrested before, so I know they don't forewarn the person they're about to arrest. So the situation seemed awfully fishy. When they started pressuring me to pay a bond, I laughed and told them to come get me instead. I then contacted a DHS rep and reported the scam. He told me that ICE doesn't call people they intend to arrest, and if I get a call like that again, I should just hang up without giving them any information.
So, fair warning. If you get a call like that, it's a scam. No matter how threatening or legit it sounds, hang up.
Sharn: Don't ever worry about bringing up topics with Merkas, he's always ready to talk
InexorableTruth: Does Kasi bringing the jackal back make it so we dont' expend rations for this first day?
Oh, it's not me worrying. 13 is kindda low for a perception roll, but not too low. I was just thinking about what could have Sharn preoccupied, while not knowing what could be the outcome.
My apologies for the long, rambling posts, if they get too much just let me know. I start typing for Merkas and it just becomes verbal Diarrhea. Though after some of this getting to know each other time is past some of it will naturally fall off.
InexorableTruth: Let me know if you want a roll for salvaging the Jackal teeth.
So are the dialog continung? Not much to write since Sera sleeps untill that scene is concluded.
Merkas and Sharn are taking a moment to build bonds, and I'd like to allow that. And Sharn gets a chance to share his philosophy. It's a small tax with great rewards.
In 3.5, my spouse and I played a game where I was a Razorclaw Shifter Monk (back then, they were much more like werewolves, it was pretty cool) named Mighty Mo (a nicknamed given to her by her girlfriend, which was a play on Monica and homo 🤭) and my spouse played my girlfriend Lydia Deshayhees. In our backstories, Lydia's wizard college assigned young wizards to train with young monks from the neighboring monastery. The idea is that they would cancel out each others lower level weaknesses. I know, crunch-wise, a wizard outclasses a monk pretty quickly back then, but it was good fluff.
Anyway, Mighty Mo and Lydia grew up as classmates and best friends. She taught Lydia basic hand-to-hand self defense, and Lydia showed Mo the wonders of necromantic magic. Eventually, their mutual respect and trust turned into love. And because of Monica's training, Lydia became a melee wizard, using her magic ability and high dexterity to provide melee attacks that damaged INT, WIS, and eventually CON. But there was a madness affecting the land. No one was fully immune, but spellcasters seem to contract it faster, the more they used magic. One day, while visiting Mo's old monastery on a pilgrimage, they arrived to find the whole school had been obliterated. Lydia's headmaster had gone insane and was murdering teachers and students, confusing them all for horrible monsters. He attacked us, and Mo charged in to protect. A mid-level monk is no match for a mid-level wizard, and Mo died in the BBEG fight. Lydia and the party fought bravely against the boss and won. She rushed to try to resurrect Mo, but I liked the ending, and chose not to be resurrected. We got a whole death scene and monolog, and it was a really tearful moment. The whole group needed a break to mourn their loss. We played out a burial ritual, where Lydia kept (I can't remember exactly, but I think) one of Monica's claws, and fashioned it into a necklace to remember her. That campaign ended with a literal, IRL funeral for Mo and drinks to celebrate the end of the story. But my spouse ended up revisiting Lydia's story and we decided to create a spin-off campaign where the characters worked to cure the madness plaguing magic to help prevent tragedies like this from happening again, and to honor Mighty Mo's sacrifice. We never finished the story. Schedules and all, but in that party, Monica and Lydia became lasting memories that the players talked about for years. Mighty Mo is my second favorite character, and Lydia is my spouse's favorite. And a huge part of it is because my spouse and I got to play out those bonds on slow nights, talking it out, holding hands, revealing our deepest secrets, sharing our knowledge... admiring the stars.
This is really where characters are made. Character builders and backstories get the game going. But the lasting memories that come from these chat-sessions... that's where how you fall in love with the characters each other built. It'll make battles, victories, death, and silly moments infinitely more powerful in your minds and hearts.

Aside from opposed checks (like this one) most checks are based on a 1-20 system. Even a 1-5 will get something done, even if it's not what you intended to do. 6-10 provides mediocre results. Sometimes success, sometimes incomplete information, occasionally incorrect information. 11-15 provides exceptional results, granting most, if not all the data you need. And 16-20 grants you near supernatural insight, reflecting your training/education, special interest, and keen insight. Above a 20 may even result in divine insight, granting you cosmic knowledge, though only on rare, and exceptionally important occasions.
She not drag that with her. Would leave it with Handar untill she return home.
Got it. I'll make a note of it. If you want, Handar can attempt to peddle it. Weapons are highly valuable in town, and I don't see any mace or crossbow users in the group.

It's pretty neat! I love me some spreadsheets! I accidentally inspired a comic book character about it because of my book-keeping tendencies. 😅 I'm not sure why it would take 10 hours to get 8 hours of rest; I was assuming sitting around chatting about the stars while watching little animals skitter by counted as light activity. But I like the thought put into this and I'm willing to canonize it if the party approves. And this puts into place room for downtime activities on the road. Let's watch the upvotes come in, and I'll add it to OOC post 1 if it gets a majority.

I think it fits Merkas's ADHD energy pretty well. His chaos reminds me of some of my friends that can't stop mashing one sentence into another, then get distracted by a squirrel or a flower. Keeps my head spinning! 😄 I can't keep up with an ADHD mind, but I love the way it works. I frequently have to ask them to re-try those sentences so I can make sense of what they're saying, but I enjoy the energy they bring, and appreciate that they make the effort to slow it down until I understand what's happening.
I gotta take my boyfriend to work, so I'll check back later. I can't promise a lot of posting today. We're having a family fun day, so I'll probably be out until late this evening.

It’s the weird quirk of how RAW is written - 6hrs sleep 2 hours light activity uninterrupted. So in order to get everyone that set of 8hrs it takes 10 as one person needs the extra two to complete their rest. Without a 4hr meditator it would take 12.
of course this is all because of doing double shifts. If we’re doing single person watch then it would change the dynamics for sure.
It is a nice character developing possibility but i agree next time we just take singel watch. (one of the FUN things was wake up duing a interuption/random encounter and have no armor on :) )
She not drag that with her. Would leave it with Handar untill she return home.
OK this being a survival campaign, and the thought of long rests tends to get me overthinking. So I did a search and found this:

I think its cool. Like even I belive in Dragons and magic a sense of "realism" as a frame is still nice :)

Also, assuming Sera doesn't try anything (LOL), Hastos will slip into his trance state and get his long rest in 4 hours.
EDIT : OIC, just re-read above comments.
