Notice a discrepancy between the DM notes on the Campaign and the info in the IC thread. The IC thread has the dwarf checking our bags and the DM notes has a great little limerick and info about who to talk to about completing the escort quest. Do we use the info from both or is one more prevalent than the other?
A quirk of Witchdoctor Duncan is that he likes to say his catchphrase (to market his brand), which you'll get the pleasure of experiencing here-and-there. But the campaign intro was more a campaign pitch than an actual jumping off point for the game, and was meant to summarize the experience for the player. Some of the players may have reasons to avoid detection by the guard altogether, and if they choose to do that, they won't really get the same information as those who walk right through the gate.
Y'all I am so sorry for the wait! The last week has been nonstop, and I hope I can make it up to you this week with some really great content! You made some really interesting characters and my gears are spinning with ideas. Thanks for keeping the story going with some great RP.
NIce to have you back. I look forward to poast much more. I see my question got a lit bit far back so I repeat it:
Thank you for letting me keep the x-mas gift ( OSMH Oversized Sock of Mundane Holding) but it was just dumb luck that gave me a Sun blade ( rolled a 12 on that d12). To have a special sword that Sera inherited from her father who was a Solamnic knight can be nice for her backstory. But to start out with a rare item of such power when the others have not any such I find no fun.
How about I trade it in so ALL players get a common magical item of their choosing?
I like a magical longsword that never rusts or gets blunt or breaks even you smash it at a stone. It always stays razor sharp. It count as magical weapon to damage creatures resistant towards normal weapons. That sounds like balanced common magical item? ( like unbreakable arrows from Xanadars))
I mean, personally I think it would be rad if you started with a sun blade. And honestly as time goes on a cleric can overshadow a sunblade by a lot. Having that one attack per turn could be nice, and if you build around it, it could be very powerful, but it's still a kickass image.

The sword could be your father's legacy sword. Don't worry. Magic weapons abound. I just have to learn more about what kind of gear would entice the party. But if the players take options available to them, you will all be so geared up by level two, you'll be spoiled for choice.
I've updated everyone's character sheet with DM Notes. Please check your sheets and make sure the update saved. If not, I'll have to rewrite. But for now, I'm off to bed.

I also vote for you to keep the lightsaber. I think your offer is incredibly generous, but that sword is too badass!
If you need a unanimous vote you have it. Having an heirloom item is great for the RP and character intrigue. I do not want you to loose that for me. We get to build our party together and learning the history of the sword and seeing how you utilize it is going to be fun.
Are rolls done in the IC thread or the OoC thread? And do the results need to be declared afterwards?
The way I've always done it is you roll on your character sheet, then you post your result in the IC thread along with a declaration of what you're trying to do.
Example:
Inex adjusts their shemagh, squinting against the chafing sandstorm, and scans the countryside.
Perception Result: 15 (looking for a hint of the secret entrance to the Tomb of Ridiculous Amounts of Loot)
But do me a favor real quick. Roll an insight check on your character sheet.
Ok, that's what I thought. I don't get notifications in the game log when someone rolls.
Also, I updated the campaign log and included a dossier of Witchdoctor Duncan. He's your freebie. You'll have to roll checks for future NPCs to get a more accurate read on them normally, but this is what a full dossier (minus any specific surprise I have hidden that will require RP to unlock).
Depending on your character background, who you already know, and how good you are at schmoozing off-camera, you'll already know a little about any notable NPC in town. To find out what your character knows, here are some example checks you can make. Almost any INT, WIS, or CHA check will get you there:
Arcana: You can make an arcana check to understand someone from a mystic studies point-of-view. If they are magical beings, this could give you a full stat block. If they are wearing magical equipment, you'll be able to discern what it is or at least get a good hint, and possibly why it's important to them.
Deception: You can trick them into revealing more information that they intended. This is a great way to reveal secrets.
History: You can understand the lore of the people here. Where they're from, what their customs are, and what their specific idiosyncrasies may mean. Different NPCs will behave differently. Sometimes those different behaviors are because of culture and history.
Insight: This could give you a statblock pretty easily. And it's the quickest way to get a full dossier. I particularly high result will reveal other special nuggets of information that are reserved as plot devices.
Intimidation: This is also a pretty quick way to size someone up and get a statblock. Some will be upset about it. Others may only respect you if you act tough.
Investigation: Investigating a corpse can give you all sorts of details... even a full bios. Investigating a live person can do about the same, if you don't get caught. That'll get you a punch in the nose.
Medicine: A medicine check will let you know a statblock of someone. A stat block isn't a perfect indicator of their abilities. Some will have more HP. Some will have special gear that boosts their abilities. But Duncan's stat block is that of a Guard, so you know his prime stat is probably strength and his low stat is probably INT WIS or CHA, he's got good AC and about 11 HP. You can also roll a Medicine check to see roughly how many HP an opponent has left, and you can do that as a free action. Great if you've been wailing on a target for several rounds and they don't seem to be tiring.
Perception: this one, I think is pretty obvious.
Persuasion: You can get them to talk about themselves. Butter them up. This is the single best way to learn plot hooks and gain access to Patrons.
Religion: Most of this region is atheist, but they acknowledge traditions associated with religion. The gods have been mostly absent during this time, but those that keep to the old ways will want to bond with others who understand those traditions.
Stealth: You can spy on a target to learn their dossier.
Most of the NPCs I make were random rolled when I started building the game. I have most of the population rolled up by now, so there are stories everywhere. I feel like random rolling them gives me guidance to create more diverse characters. It allows for all (or no genders) all species, and any number of fun quirks I wouldn't have originally thought to play out on my own. This reduces the likelihood of the stencil effect that comes from running over 100 NPCs. For instance, Duncan doesn't have a dwarvish accent. Normally I go full Durkon with the accent and attitude, but I was able to create someone truly individual with a rhyming, gambling, witchdoctor who happens to really hate baths. 😄
I say all that to say, I've made so many unique characters, that I don't even fully remember how they're supposed to be played. So I keep them on a spreadsheet ready to be revealed when the time is right. Roll when you feel inclined, or just RP it and see what information comes your way!
I'm the case of Verhanna, she's actually waiting for you. So seeing her is easy. She prefers numbers to people, and can be a bit snippy. So I wouldn't say you have had a lot of chances to get to know her. But yes, in general you would know the council members, at least on an acquaintance level.
Also, I was trying to roll insight to see if Sharn could understand what caused Sera to look so upset all of a sudden, but with an 8 I highly doubt it.

Loyalty Begets Honour
When your character is part of the campaign you roll from your sheet and it ends up in the campaign tread I belive.
Okay...I keep the Sunblade then...(can help us survive level 1 I hope). I edit it in my backstory.

Rolled int the insight DnDB app for a 5
Rolled in the insight website for 17
Not sure which updates where
Loyalty Begets Honour
Got a 21 with advantage on that persuasion. Sera are kinda charming I guess
21 persuasion for Merkas as well. Really just wanting to put Duncans mind at ease that Hastos can be trysted and we’ll watch over him.

Yeah, that was a 2, but using my inspiration that's a 15.
Just to check, would Sharn know how to contact a council member?
