The young dark-haired lady gives the pink tiefling a small amused smile. "All in due time dearest, we have important business at the mansion remember." She says with a pleasant smile, then turning to the innkeeper. "Thank you for your assistance, but if you would be able to provide us with a carriage and a lunch package to bring with us you will find we have the gold to compensate you generously."
The dwarf smiles at Mavilius' words. "Really? You are hoping to get into fishing? Could you make lunch for all of us then?" She feigns disappointment when Delilah seems to indicate she won't be fishing. Nor even managing to walk to the mansion.
To Simon, Bronnryn says, "If you have a couple wineskins to spare, I would take them. And thank you again for your assistance."
Here take these, the wine is good, Dragons Crush. I'm afraid there is no carriage, you'll have to walk, the tourists have all the carriages that the town has, I'm sorry. I'll just go and make you up a picnic basket for lunch, I've good cold mutton, fresh bread and butter, with redroot salad, and ripe pears.
The young dark-haired lady frowns slightly, having a hard time accepting there wasn't a single carriage available for them in this town. She finally sighs and nods, giving the innkeeper a polite smile. "Thank you, I'm sure Mavilius will be the gentleman and carry the picnic basket for us."She says with a teasing smile to the pink tiefling. "And let us hope the wine is decent at least." She turns and says with a small smile to the blonde dwarf as the innkeeper has left.
The tiefling takes the basket with a theatrical bow towards the ladies. "But of course. I'm truly honored you'd entrust me with such an important task," he says graciously, remembering the teachings of his tome. 'Just keep smiling'. It is a perfect opportunity to snack while the others aren't looking anyway.

You make your way along the path, the tinkling music from the stream and calls as nets were flung and salmon harvested on their mating run, all seems calm. What wagons you can see are being filled by the fisherman, the smell of smoking houses fill the air. You would not have wanted to share a wagon with fish.
After an hour you pass the firepit mentioned by Simon, it has ashes in the centre of the stone and looks well used. The path is rough better for horses than carriages.
Suddenly you feel a cold tingle down the spine, magic!
A ray of sunlight shines down on a tree stump by the side of road, and the disembodied head of a human woman appears above the stump.
"My name is Elra Lionheart," says the head. "My companions and I died trying to retrieve The Celestial Codex. Heed my words, lest you too fall prey to the dangers of Delphi Mansion. Markos is using the book to conjure an otherworldly being not meant to exist in this world. Meanwhile, his purple-robed cultists busy themselves with eldritch experiments. Beware creatures that look like puddles of eyes and mouths. Beware the thing that has hooks for hands. And beware the mansion itself, for it transforms weirdly. Most of all, stop Markos before it's too late!
"My companions and I had a camp on a bluff due south of the mansion. If you go there first, you'll find a backpack containing a map of the mansion and some notes we acquired from a dubious source. These might help you plan your approach. Best of luck!"
The lovely scenery is not lost on the young dark-haired lady and she realizes the walk has been quite nice, that is until the weird apparition appears. She can't help but wonder why the spirit of Miss Lionheart would appear as a head above a tree stump.
"Well that was...interesting." She says as the head finishes speaking. "While her information raises more questions I do think we should heed her advice and make our way to that bluff behind the mansion before we enter it. While I won't hesitate to proceed with our mission I must ask you all to be wary of the effects of the Far Realm. We should not linger inside that mansion longer than absolutely necessary, in fact if recovering the codex won't stop the taint and corruption we should consider burning the mansion to the ground when we leave to hopefully stop the spread of the influence from the Far Realm upon our world." She explains, seeming far more serious now than you have seen her before.
Bronnryn enjoyed the walk, as there wasn't much use planning at this point. So she simply took in the pastoral scenery. But after the head appears and speaks, she becomes far more thoughtful. "Not sure interesting is the word I would use," she replies to Delilah. "I agree we should check out the bluff she mentioned, as any help to our mission would be most welcome. But we should approach with a great deal of caution." She glances over at the stump where the disembodied head had been. "I'm not sure I understand how that magic was left for us. Maybe it was something Elra knew how to do. Or could it somehow be related to the mansion's inhabitants, making a trap for us?"
The bard also takes great pleasure in their walk, enjoying the unfamiliar yet enchanting scenery as he hums a tune to himself. As the apparition appears he comes to a halt and listens with rapt curiosity. A chuckle escapes him as she finishes her message and fades away, but he seems to turn more serious after noticing Delilah's change in demeanor.
"You seem awfully familiar with the Far Realm, dear. Is this something you've encountered before?" He wonders aloud. "Whatever the case, I agree we should proceed with caution and check out the bluff as well. Still...we must also keep in mind that this floating head could be a trick by whatever resides in the manor. Be prepared for an ambush, yes?"

"Fortunately I have not yet had any experience with anything connected with the Far Realm, but I know well it is something to be feared. And I do think we should move with caution henceforth, although I doubt this message is a trickery."The young dark-haired lady says grimly, ready to proceed to the bluff.
You notice movement along the tree lined path, the head floats off to one side and called up here. You can just make out where a game trail led up to a bush surrounded bluff. There is a makeshift camp site with four bedrolls and backpacks. Nearly all that is left of the dead adventurers. From here you have a clear view of the mansion
Elra says here this is the pack. Picking the backpack with a spying glass set up next to it with a excellent view of the mansion and its south facing rooms.

Delilah
The young dark-haired lady had heard of many strange things, but the floating head still admittedly made her feel a bit uneasy, although she kept a friendly smile on to not insult the bodyless head. "Now let's see what we can see." She says, picking up the spy glass to see what she can spy over at the corrupted mansion.
Perception: 9 Another roll if the spyglass would give advantage: 13
The tiefling shrugs and follows their deceased guide, regarding the camp curiously. Giving the floating head a warm smile, he turns on the charm as he takes on an expression of feigned worry. "My thanks for leading us here. I am afraid we are woefully unequipped for this mission if it killed one such as yourself...Do you happen to have any aces up your figurative sleeve hidden around here that might give us a little extra help?"
Delilah looks through the spyglass and sees two rooms both heavily curtained, a drawing room going by the furniture and a dining room. She sees men in purple robes moving about, but which was Markos?
Mavilius watched as the head faded in and out, Elras face contorting as if in pain. Not long now she says They all wear hoods now hiding how they've changed. Markos is the only one bareheaded. Long hair down to his shoulders.
The three-story mansion stands alone in a clearing. It has alabaster walls, windows on all three levels, and a closed double door on the ground floor. The area around the mansion seems unnaturally quiet.
Bronnryn studies the papers she took from the pack. "It will be good to have the maps. But does it give us any clues where the book will be?" She looks again at the notes. "If the book is for rituals, then perhaps this place on the third floor is where we should look. Although the spot beneath the house seems suspicious. It too seems a likely ritual spot. Epsecially for summoning something particularly bad."
She looks over at Delilah. "See anything? I'm much rather try and sneak in and avoid any of those others. If we want the third floor, any way to climb up to one of the windows of a room that's empty?"
The young dark-haired lady hands the spyglass the the blonde dwarf. "People in purple robes, see for yourself." She says grimly, then looking through the map and the notes. "It seems our predecessors did much work for us."She says with a pleased nod. "I don't mind avoiding trouble while inside, see if you can make out which would be third floor room where Markos performs his rituals."She says to the blonde dwarf. "I would wager the codex is either there or down in the cavern under the mansion. We could start by making our way inside through one of the third story windows." She suggests, looking between the others.
Bronnryn takes a long look through the spyglass. She tries to be meticulous, starting with identifying which side of the house they are looking at versus the map. She then tries to determine any spots where they might be able to climb up to the third floor, supposing they would be able to get in through a window. Also, she looks for any windows that might enter a space where none of the purple robed figures would see. After that she does as Delilah mentioned, seeing if she can identify the room where rituals were performed on the third floor.
Aligning the map with the Mansion, Bronnryn carefully looks at the main bay windows, one has an old ivy bush growing up to the roof. The room on the third floor is in darkness apart from a green glow. It must be the workroom.
Elras head keeps fading in and out as if the magic is failing.
