Gelidus looks around for possible clues, but they seem to be looking more at those around them with a suspicious eye. The two gnomes busy themselves taking inventory of the wagon as the Tiefling's gaze focuses on them.
Portia joins Leo and Cleo investigating the wagon, but other than the chest missing, nothing about the wagon appears different.
When the halfling starts looking around the campground, it's clear that with the rain, the ground is now mud and is not revealing much. But as she moves further from the wagon, she notices distinct footprints [nature 19], or more accurately, one set of footprints, heading west, into the woods.
Gelidus notices Portia's announce, they gesture "I'm watching you" with their fingers to the two gnomes before heading to the group.
"I'm not being paid for this," Gelidus thought. They turn towards Dragen "You know, you're the most... well, the only trustworthy one here. I'll lend you my aid. Give me a signal and I'll cast Guidance on you." In truth, they just don't care about this chest enough to actually bother. But they’ll still go along with the group, or well, they'll go along with Dragen.
The ground around camp is a mess from the rain, horses and camp setup, searching reveals nothing more there. Grommok you also find the same set of footprints that Portia did, heading into the woods. You find nothing else.
[Would you like to follow the prints? If so let me know how you want to move, and in what order, assume single file through the woods]
"You should hurry, before they get too far" Dorai says to the guards, "I will stay here to protect the wagon. Though the chest is gone, this wagon still has other valuables. You two..." he says, looking at the gnomes, "stay with the horses and wagon, eyes open."
He then begins to circle the wagon, eyes to the ground, doing his own investigation.
The four of you begin to follow the tracks. Dragen notices that the tracks head towards the camp, as well as away into the trees. The latter set seems to sink a bit deeper into the wet earth, evidence of being... heavier?
You enter the woods; the scent of wet leaves and blooming flowers greets you. After a few minutes, Dragen notices a second set of footprints, showing signs that their owner may have spent some time waiting here. You continue on, swatting at the occasional mosquito, following the two sets of prints for about 10 minutes, at which point you come to a small river. The tracks appear to turn north and hug the river.
Additionally, there is a rope, tied taut around a tree, about a foot off the ground. The other end of the rope disappears into the river. From where you stand, you can see that the rope descends at least three feet before you lose sight of it in the dark water.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Grommok walks up to the rope, grabs it with two hands, and starts pulling. The rope doesn't seem to budge from the water, but the barbarian does hear a snap, followed by a crash, as a thinner rope, hidden in the bark of the tree snaps when the rope is pulled. From the canopy above, two large sacks come crashing to the ground, swarms of angry and agitated centipedes move towards you!
When Gelidus sees the centipedes, they lets out a disgusted noise "Ugh, what in the hells?" and casts Bless on Grommok, Dragen and Portia. They take out their Halberd to prepare for battle, though tempted to just step away.
