The halfling woman looks up from her book as if Ylis has disturbed her greatly. The lines of her brow deepen futher as she pulls herself over her podium to look down at Ylis below. Her eyes narrow, then she hops down from her stool. She sizes Ylis up, stretching her neck to stand about 2 inches taller than Ylis.
“Aye, we have inks for such things. Looking to create some spell scrolls or add to a spellbook, are ye? Are ye sure ye got the proper paper for it? Not likely to use standard book weight paper. Not at least if ye don’t want the book to warp and rot after yer first dip in a creek. Can’t take normal paper onto adventures and expect it to keep. What’s yer intended canvas for yer arcane arts? Enchanted paper? Parchment if yer in a financial pinch, or do ye have something else in mind?” She orbits Ylis, trying to tease out what she plans to scribe her spell onto. “Oh, ye got a thirst for some runic carvings, do ye?” She says noting the now mundane tortoise amulet. “I can still smell the fading spell of this, I can. Got just the thing for ye.”
The woman smiles, yet even with the seemingly fixed furrowed brow, the smile looks friendly enough, though a bit superior. She walks into her kiosk and comes out with a few supplies. “This will do ye up proper. How much are ye needing?”
DM: We will just use the PHB and skip over the actually purchasing part unless you intend to haggle. I’ll let you know right now that is an uphill battle since your renown is basically nothing and this is a war-ravaged town where things like this could run at a premium. If you want to haggle it down though, feel free to RP an attempt and throw down a Check.
DM2: Jacaranda, please deduct 3 silver for the produce.
The woman casts wry smile toward Jacaranda. “We have all types here. Tusk Love is popular, as yer friend noted, but we also have The Perilous Predicaments of Pumat and The Daring Trials and Tribulations of Sir Taryon Darrington. Those are both incredibly popular. The latter claims to be non-fiction, but hehe… unlikely.
“No incense here. Ye might have better luck with the more religiously focused vendors. I am technically not a spell casting vendor, I just so happen to have enough overlap that the odd spellcaster wanders this way. It pays to set space aside to serve them. If ye don’t find them at this market, ye surely will in one of the others. I’ve seen them around." She says with polite regret.
"Thanks Ma'am! If we're going to be helping fight demons, we need to be prepared," Ylis dimples a smile.
OOC: I don't want to haggle. In this case it wouldn't even occur to Ylis to negotiate a cheaper price.
Downtime over the course of 24 hours - not all at once - 2 tortoise shells, Ylis and Randa, 1 Cure Wounds scroll for party inventory, 1 set of mats to redo a tortoise shell in the future.

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
Morgan politely thanks the vendor. Then, with a small shrug, he murmurs to the familiar tucked under his hat, "Better not die anytime soon… or it’ll be a while before I can get you back."
Business with the book merchant concludes, and she looks increasingly uncomfortable as a dozen adventurers stand there staring. "Do you... need something else?"
Morgan's urging to action snaps Ayo's team out of their collective catatonia. Their previously upbeat and eager demeanor has been chipped away since the bombing and the mind-warping mouther fight. None of them seem like themselves. Even Dermot looks dour relative to his baseline. They all have a distant expression and carry themselves low, backs slightly bent and shoulders stooped. After a brief moment, they collect themselves and, with the Fellowship, press on.
The group begins to move along through the city in the direction of the barracks when the combined two parties, except Frekor, hear a silky male voice in their heads. It is calm, careful, and extremely formal.
"Greetings, young lords and a most sincere apology if I may have interrupted something important. I cannot see what you may be up to but according to Lord Ushru, you should be in Bazzoxan by now. If my information is correct, you have just concluded your midday meal. My name is Tredell. I am your Vaht, or Steward of your new estate. I am calling to inform you that we have finished restoration of your new residence and are prepared to begin specific renovations. I also am reaching out to see if there may be any... unfortunate departures or new additions to your heroics who may have earned themselves a share of your estate. In my experience, adventuring is a life of meetings and partings, so it bears asking before we begin the next stage of our construction. You may speak aloud or in your head in response. The intention matters here, not the delivery."
"Well...There's Randa...and there's me, Ylis. The Fellowship has suffered some losses BUT we have gained a few new friends!"
"There is Brother Bombur, Frekor, Morgan, and Sacha. They are all quite worthy of your regard and please allow them a place on the lot. We couldn't have made it this far without them."
Ylis looks in the air as if she could see some face or an ear to hear what she is saying.
"Oh and I still want the house barn with attached kitchen!"
Morgan smiles. "I’ve been thinking about something like… this." An image takes shape in his mind.
Then he launches into a (slightly too-enthusiastic) sales pitch.
"It’s modular. Mobile. Easy to keep warm in winter, cool in summer. One wagon could be a kitchen, one for training how to blow things up, another that opens into a stage for public shows — my people had one like that in the circus."
He gestures as if rearranging invisible wagons.
"And you can keep adding to it. Imagination (and money) are the only limits. For now, it could just be parked in someone else's courtyard (assuming they’re ok with that). And one day…"
His eyes drift off, clearly daydreaming. "It could even upgrade!" His voice fades out as he imagines a Horizonback tortoise, like the one they ran into.
" Still the greenhouse cum sunroom.....though feel free to just fill the entire place with tropical plants.....I'm sure the others won't mind.....", Jacaranda said under her breath.
She looked across at the other group seeing the strain Ayo was under but unsure how best to relieve it, at least Ylis seemed in good spirits.
She was slightly disappointed by the lack of ( in-) appropriate reading material but was mostly resigned to concentrating on the less fun parts of life until they solved this Vestige mystery....
There is a pregnant pause as Tredell considers his response. “Please take Lord Frekor by the hand to add him to this communication.” Tredell waits a moment before continuing. “Forgive me, Lord Morgan, but your estate is several square blocks in Ank’Harel, the Jewel of Hope. Your property lies in the heart of the Suncut Bazaar, the center of commerce in Ank’Harel. A most profitable opportunity for any entrepreneur; it was specifically how Lord Ushru made his vast and virtually incalculable fortune.

“We will begin renovation immediately, Lord Ylis and Lord Jacaranga. I would hope that there are more requests among all of you.”Tredell says in a tone that is reserved and polite, but also with a hint of repressed disappointment.
Vaht Tredell’s communication shakes Ayo and her crew out of their trauma stare. Ayo slaps on a forced grin and begins with her list of requests. She speaks her requests out loud, because thinking at someone feels strange to her.
“I’ve never done something like this before, so let me know if anything is too much. I can reel it in if needed. I need a bedroom to sleep in. Make this the smaller room. I would like a bed of fine downy feathers.”She grins at everyone “Never had one of those before. Heck, most of my life, I haven’t even had a bed. I want my room to remind me of home. Lots of rough wood and thick ropes. Maybe hang a rope net on my wall near the bed. Never know when I might need to tear it down and throw it on someone. Some art from Jigow would be great too. Like painted burlap or something.”
“… As you wish, Lord Ayo.” Tredell says with a formal grace.
“You can call me Ayo if you like.”
“A most gracious rejection of proper etiquette , Lord Ayo. I will consider the offer.”
Ayo tries to think of what exactly Tredell is saying but not saying, then gives up on it and continues. “The big room needs to be a Parlor. I want to be able to entertain some guests. Everyone will be coming to see my crew to ask for our help and they need to have a place to sit! Make it the finest Marquet stuff. You know, like the fancy rugs and the chairs that have cushions on them. Big red ones that make them feel like they are coming to a palace. You know, the ones with tassels on them for no reason? Maybe a gaming table for when I want to relax with my friends, but make it one of those gaming tables that can be hidden under a normal table. Oh, and some picture of an important person on it that people will recognize as powerful and impressive. Maybe someone with a bit of a reputation.”
“This should be easily accomplished, my lord.”
“Maybe add a bar too. Fully stocked. Put some fancy liquor in there for the manicured people, but also some hard Jigow booze for the people who come in wearing worn leathers with steel hanging from their belts. Am I missing anything?”
“I… believe I have an idea of what you are looking for, Lord Ayo. It will be done.”
“Then I would like a Smithy and a Storehouse. I would like to start paying back my friends here.”Ayo says, nodding to the Fellowship.“They helped me earlier when I was tight on funds. This way, I can get some income to pay my debts.”

Because you wanted to be a new teammate rather than one who started with the party. That means you had not and signed the deed to the property that Lord Ushru gave the party. A small RP gap that I just gave Ylis the chance to patch. You are now the proud owner of property in one of the wealthiest cities in all of Exandria and can hear Vaht Tredell now (because one of the others took you by the hand to include you in the convo).
