"It appears that there are some devious traps so early into our arrival." Lumiere says. She inspects the writing along the wall. "It states that two falls are fortuitous, and there were multiple pit traps along the way. Perhaps we should open all of the pits. It'll be safer should we return this way to know where they are, and they may have something of use, or even be the way forward."
You check all the other pits and open them in the same way. At first glance they all look like the first you opened. 10 feet fall and rusted spikes at the end. Some of them have some bones and clothes in there.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lumiere looks to the others. "If I pass you a rope, I shall scale down and check the pit bottoms to ensure there is nothing hidden down there." She keeps her lantern of revealing readied to illuminate the pits. She will (once someone has taken the rope so she can climb back up) scale down the side (Monk Slow Fall to help with the scaling) and check below, probably starting with the one that has bones and clothes in.

"What is this 'tormentor'?" Ubogri asks as the others prepare to climb down one of the pits. "The second line says, 'Go back to the tormentor or through the arch.' As it looks like we can't go through the arch ..." Ubogri heads back toward the entrance and starts searching the walls, floor and ceiling for something that he might associate with a "tormentor".
Lumiere checks all of the pits and in the southernmost one he finds something suspicious. It looks like a piece of wall that can slide or open. The problem is that it doesn't have a handle nor a keyhole. It's completely shut and doesn't move.
Falmo at the same time tries to knock on the wall. It doesn't seem hollow but it definitely looks like there's something behind.
Ubogri you don't notice anything new that the others didn't see yet. Just the usual paintings on the wall you already saw multiple times while passing by.

As Ubogri pulls the lever suddenly a pit opens beneath his feet and he starts falling down. Roll a dex save.
Falmo starts climbing down with Lumiere. The put isn't really wide so there's no much space inside and you barely fit together but there's enough to move. You both check for some catch but you find nothing, only a solid stone wall.

Ubogri surreptitiously reaches in and flips the switch in the chest. At the slightest sign of danger, he will bolt back outside.

"What was I telling to you?! I am having mage hand for such foolishness!"
"I am thinking we investigate mist a bit more" I cast unseen servant and tell Hans to go into the mist and come back.
While he is doing that, I lower myself into the pit safely to give the oddity in the pit a love tap with my crowbar "Mayhaps, this is ungood idea...everybody else be getting out now."

Luckily you were ready to avoid whatever trap there was and you barely manage to reach the edge of the pit. Under you, 30 feet of blackness with some spikes protruding from the end. You were lucky this time, better not rely entirely on it though. You pull yourself up and watch down the pit. A long fall...
In case you were wondering why you didn't detect this trap while searching for it it's because the module explicitly says it's not technically a trap thus it shouldn't be detected.

Lumiere will climb out of the pit, seeing that the brute force method did not work. She heads over to the pit that Uborgi opened, shining her lantern down. "I suppose nothing of value was found there, either." She comments.

"We could be doing this."
I check to see if it's possible to open the other traps safely.

Falmo will test the wall to see if it seems hollow: 10 or 17
He will also attempt to see if he remembers any lore that might help him: (base Int check) 15

Ubogri climbs back up and scowls at the dragonborn, cursing in Orcish at his comment.
I was afraid the switch would reset the pits and activate star wars crushing machine.
