Dain seeing them close the distance and knowing they’ll be at him soon enough, moves to them instead, protecting Aldun by drawing their attention away from him.
dropping his bow and pulling out his axe, he goes into a mindless rage seeing them outnumbered so.
He swing his axe but misses as he tries to pivot mid swing to dodge a blow (9 to hit - reckless rage)

The walk back was a short rest, yes.
Alain starts about 20’ off the map, hits the Acolyte zombie with psychic damage, then ends about 50’ off the map.
As a reaction to Aldun’s spell the rider tosses the bone it lands near Aldun forming into a skeleton as it hits the ground.
As the zombie shakes its head moaning Dain strikes two previously damaged zombies. One drops the acolyte still stands nearly severed at the hip…
The zombies attack Dain, one hits for a total 7 (3 reduced) slashing.
The skeleton goes after Aldun missing with its claws.
Seeing the rider create a skeleton Aldun goes for the rider casting witch bolt on it

and swooping around 30ft to get a bit closer to Dain but stay out of range of the zombies and skeleton in the meantime yelling to Dain: " he just creates new ones with bones, Dain! We gotta stop him asap."
Seeing everything Dain did and the damage he caused Aldun feels a bit incompetent. In his urge to compensate he goes after the rider yelling: "don't worry Dain, I got this one".
Aldun first wants to get some distance between him and the skeleton (attack of opportunity). He runs 30ft in the same direction as the rider, hoping he's still within range of his fire bolt (120ft).
He then fires at the rider (roll 8).
Seeing the fire bolt miss he realises the skeleton was also behind him he suddenly gets nervous.
