OK, so I guess you'd go south since that's the only part you haven't explored yet? At your offering of a weapon, Vondal, Gundren declines. "I'm no adventurer," he says.
Karl leads the party south through a room that looks like a makeshift barracks. A stone brazier full of black coals sits in the middle, and four straw pallets are lined up along the east wall. The wall to the south has collapsed, but a barred wooden door in that direction is still clear. Karl listens at the door and can hear something moving around inside. It sounds big and restless. Gundren hangs back near the curtain they walked through, clearly wanting to avoid all danger.
Does the placement look right? How are you proceeding?
(@DDP That looks to be right, and up to Karl on proceedings. Vondal will at least ready a Fire Bolt for if the thing inside turns hostile on the group.)

“Some sort of giant bear critter” Karl whispers back.”I can’t see it’s face but it’s the damn strangest chook - if’n it’s responsible for that awful crowing - I’ve ever seen” he finishes with.
"And?" Vondal whispers pressingly. "You still wish to end crowing? Or we leave door open and leave before it notice. Let it run free and terrorize anyone wanting to stay here?" He asked, lighting his tone quick even before Karl can scowl at him from the perhaps more terse than intended opener.

“I reckon you’re right young’un - let’s leave this critter alone” Karl whispers back. He turns and heads back to Grol’s room making sure that the door is open so the creature can escape.
You guys are so funny. OK, you've left the door open enough that the creature will find it can leave it if tries and returned to Grol's room. What's next?
"Well, now that /that/ business is taken care of, and we have both the things we were looking for, I see we leave way we come, yes? Unfortunately, fastest route out of forest would mean probably into Druids again. But, no helping that. Can only hope they learn from last time, and leave us be." Vondal said, sounding a bit exasperated at the end. "You good to go, comrade? It will take two or three days, but we be back in town soon. From there, maybe we can look into this whole other business."He asks of Gundren.

Vondal shares a pensive look to the others, before answering in a clear attempt at careful wording. "I am afraid not. We were able gather plenty regarding their frequent stay in some mystery camp outside of town. But with no directions, we were never able to confirm their whereabouts. I presume this camp is half-way between your prize and the town. So if so, good chance they haven't run into same trouble as you, yes?"

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gundren doesn't look overly worried at Vondal's words. "I'd like to go to the cave as soon as I can after resting up in Phandalin. Are you willing to escort me? I'm not sure what's going on with these goblins and somebody named Black Spider, but I'm a little nervous for their safety."
Karl looks down the hall and listens carefully, but he doesn't hear the creature moving about. He heads right and leaves through the clever hidden tarp Vondal discovered earlier. Gundren's footsteps seem to lighten as soon as they are in the woods.

Heading straight south, the party reaches the edge of the Neverwinter Wood between five and 10 miles and then the Triboar Trail another five to 10 miles further. As the party slept late, it is now coming on sunset when the party reaches the Trail. Do you want to camp or keep going?

Shield up, Karl pushes his derby hat to one side and listens at the door (18). Assuming he hears nothing he 23 quietly opens the door and peers in.

Did you have an additional shield?
Listening at the door, you hear something moving around inside. It sounds big and restless.
I forgot the Gobbo had pinched the shield. Was their one in the bugbears room.

Karl carefully and quietly opens the door just a wee bit

RAW, yes there was. Grol had one. OK, you have a new shield.
You silently open the door and peer in. Inside, you see this (it does not know you are there):
"What's in there lad?" asks Adrom behind Karl.
