"The Elderleaf farm is at the South east edge of town. Go southeast from the square, you can't miss it."
You all head to the Elderleaf farm. You are greeted by Quellin Alderleaf, a wise halfing woman. He is hesitant to bring her son into this, but eventually is convinced to help.
Qelline’s son, Carp, is a spirited and precocious halfling lad of ten years. He is enchanted by the idea of being an adventurer and says that he was playing in the woods near Tresendar Manor when he found a secret tunnel in a thicket. A couple of “big ugly bandits” came out of the tunnel when he was there, and met with a pair of Redbrands. They didn’t see him, but it was close. Carp thinks that the bandits have a secret lair under the old manor house. He can take the characters to the tunnel or provide them with directions to the location.

Talon squats down by the young lad and flashes his rakish grin at the wee lad. "Aye laddy! T'will be an 'venture we be havin'. Ye and your mam lead us to where ye saw these ne'er do wells & I be givin' you your very own gold crown. What say ye?" All the while he is speaking Talon walks a shiny gold coin across the knuckles of his right hand to his left hand and finally let's it fall into the lads open hand.
Quelline speaks, "You're not taking my son into the woods to go searching for trouble with ruffians. You get to follow his directions."
Carp gives you good directions, the tunnel lies just east of the farm, past a low wall and in the middle of the forest that has grown up to the south side of the manor,
Amy, the farm is far enough from the other homes that no one seems to be watching. You do notice a group of four armed individuals wearing red cloaks coming down the road towards the farm.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
At this warning, Kelsier, who has refrained from joining the conversation, ducks into any available cover (bushes, at worst, around the edge of the farm house) to hide.
Talon flashes his rakish smile at the wee lady & lad. "I've found, luv. That trouble needs no lookin' for. It finds me where e're I be.", he calls over his shoulder as he walks back towards the others down the path. "Now be scarce with ye." With that Talon shifts his longsword to be more readily at hand. He begins whistling an old drinking song as he slowly meanders about the path.
Talon feels the hair on his arms stand up under the divine protection bestowed upon him by Amy. He nods towards her flashing a disarming smile, "Thanks lass! Aye, that they shall learn. And right quickly too!"
Talon goes back to whistling the drinking song & awaiting the arrival of their visitors.
Talon mumbles a brief incantation under his breath to his patron, The Burning Blade. He is briefly outlined in a purple flicker of flames, as his hair is swept about by a mystical wind, & his eyes flash with the same purple fire as the flames.
Jaelryn rolls her eyes at the approaching group. “Well, looks like its time to get our hands dirty.” She rests her hand on her rapier, her finger tapping the hilt occasionally, and takes a step behind the Goliath.
The ruffians approach the farmhouse angrily. The one in front, a half-orc woman says, "Listen strangers, this is our town and we have some business with the Alderleafs. Give us your belongings and leave town and things will stay all peaceful- like okay?"

Talon flashes his devil may care smile at the half-orc. He says outloud to his companions, "Leave her for last. She appears healthy and strong. I'm not fond of digging graves; but I'm sure she be capable of digging four graves."
"Well looks like you've chosen the fun way, get 'em boys!" says the woman, drawing her sword.
