Sometimes a Nat 1 tells a better story than a Nat 20 ever could.
As he enters the damp room Nelburn mutters in his usual manner: “My bleedin armours gonna end up rusted in this soddin’ place. Why can’t we wander into a pub one of these doors?”
As he continues to stomp forwards unhappily he waggles a few fingers before suddenly any water dripping down directly onto him mysteriously swerves to avoid the dwarf.
Nothing becomes immediately visible to Karnic until he glances up shining the lantern upward and he notices several sets of eyes glowing at the edges of the damp outcroppings disappearing into the black abyss his lantern cannot pierce.

Karnic will keep an eye on them for now and walk over to Tobias and say quietly for only him to hear, "I've got a bad feeling about this. Do you sense evil or anything around here?"

Once the creatures are pointed out, Flint will slowly walk over to one of the creatures and get down on one knee. "Hello small creature! My name is Flint. Do you know how to get to the middle of the maze? I have some food for you that you can have if you help us... Flint will say opening up his pack and pulling out some rations and laying them in front of the creature. "
Watching as Flint attempts to communicate with the creatures Nelburn chuckles to himself before nudging Nam in the arm and gesturing in Flint's direction. "This should be interesting!"
Nam chuckles “yes, if only you could talk to them” He walks over to the nearest wall. “Hey wall, can you help us?” Nam ask in a mocking tone then chuckles his way back to Nelburn.

Nelburn lets out a loud laugh at Flint's comment. "My grand pappy would be agreein' with you there! Mayhaps they be fancyin' a little beverage to quench their thirst too?" He says with a wink to Nam.

Nam runs over to Flint “hey buddy, tell you what, if one comes down then you can feed him but for now if you upset them then I think there might be too many to take on” he says in a loud whisper. “Let’s check out the pool”
Tobias keeps a wary eye on the strange - some may even say cute - little creatures watching over them as he continues leading the party. "Trying to make a new pet, Flint?" Stopping at the edge of the pool in the center of the room, he once again reaches out with his divine senses.
The presence of strong evil registers on your senses like a noxious odor, and powerful good rings like heavenly music in your ears. As an action, you can open your awareness to detect such forces. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet of you that is not behind total cover. You know the type (celestial, fiend, or undead) of any being whose presence you sense, but not its identity (the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich, for instance). Within the same radius, you also detect the presence of any place or object that has been consecrated or desecrated, as with the hallow spell.
The flumphs hum a jaunty chorus but if threatened they might attack! The pool ahead registers nothing to your divine sense but as you investigate the pool there's movement and a watery tentacle bursts from the water then attempts to hit then grapple you! Attack: 7 Damage: 12; fit hits grapple DC13!

With a watery slap, Tobias easily deflects the tentacle with his shield. "Your wish for more excitement has seemed to have come true," the paladin calls back to the group.
