Oliver briefly looked up from his fruit and nuts at the attention, but quickly returned to stuffing his face. He didn't seem concerned with any danger, but that could be because he was with the group that slew the nightmare that was the Merrow and his Steam Mephits. Not to mention the strange cat that wore clothes, walked on two legs, and didn't want to eat him. Or he could just be a dumb animal enjoying an easy meal.
“Was the wood brighter before the blight? Does anyone know?” Twig looks to her companions, questioning. “Because this is not what one pictures when hearing ‘Brightwood Forest’. This is much more of a dim forest. Oh! Perhaps the wood is bright at night.” Looking at the sky, she says “I say we set camp, see if we can find anything to eat in the meantime, and move at first light.”
From what you've heard about Brightwood Forest and Issrisyl in general, there is no evidence that there would be a dragon in the forest. From what you remember of the continent, a dragon hasn't been seen outside Mount Humo in hundreds of years. They tend to stay relatively close to the mountain and never venture past the wasteland surrounding it. Rad seems convinced that there's a dragon in the forest, but you have some serious doubts about the reliability of his source.

"Camp sounds like a good plan. We should take this slowly since we don't know where we are going or what kind of dangers lurk in this area. And we should always keep someone on watch, just in case." Rad looks around for a clearing to make camp in.

“Good idea. And so I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m concerned about the fact that there is a dragon here. From my knowledge of history, dragons haven’t been seen in these parts for hundreds of years. I’m getting the sneaking feeling that this forest is being affected by its proximity.” Cor says with a scrunched up face
(OOC: I don’t know how much my character knows about dragons so I’m having him roll insight to see what he can understand about the potential effects of having an evil dragon near by would have on the woods.)
You don't see any sign of a dragon nearby. You also don't know how an evil dragon would affect a forest. The sense of "unwelcome" that you're feeling is somewhat familiar, however. Similar to when you first approached the Dryad's grove. And, if anything, a bit like the opposite of how you felt when she asked for someone to be her protector.

“Now I don’t feel anything bad per se but I do get a sense of unwelcomeness akin to the feeling the dryad gave but more like the opposite if you catch my meaning. Why don’t we set up camp and keep watch? Get some wood together and I can magic us up a fire”
“I don’t think there’s a dragon here. Based on all of the information I have, I question the reliability of the source that claimed there was a dragon. While there certainly IS something living under the crystal tree, I have serious doubts about any dragons this far from Mount Humo.”
Twig begins collecting firewood.
“Also, I agree with always having a watch. I’ll take first.”
“Thanks Twig. I’m glad it’s not just me thinking the likely hood of a dragon is low. Which is actually scarier. I’d rather have it be a dragon and know what we’re up against then be surprised by like a demon or something.”
"I will take last watch tonight." Rad goes off to collect firewood. "I'm sure that there is a dragon here. I overheard a guy in a bar talking about how his brother's friend's fiance used to live near here, and saw the dragon with her own two eyes. She was out in the forest looking for magic mushrooms and got lost and ended up face to face with it."
He shrugs with both arms full of firewood "I don't know, I just overheard it in a tavern. Never gave it much though because I didn't think I'd ever be coming here."

The group got to sleep and Twig started out with first watch, keeping her back to the fire to preserve her night vision. She saw no animals or monsters at all, just a bunch of trees. Some were small and gnarled, some were tall, but they all had a very dead feeling about them. They might not have been dead, but they certainly seemed close to it. Just as the Tabaxi began to become bored and look about for something to fiddle with, seven of the stunted trees near the edge of the forest burst to life and ran straight for the camped adventurers. She was so surprised, she didn't even have time to raise an alarm before the creatures were on top of them.

(The creatures got the drop on you, so it's a surprise round. This means that, even though you won initiative, the creatures go first.)
Twig was hit by three of the creatures. It seemed they were determined to take care of the only awake intruder first. They collectively clubbed the Tabaxi, dealing 10 damage.
Garth was awoken from his sleep by wooden claws scraping at his face from two of the monsters. 7 damage.
Rad was clawed awake by a powerful blow from one of the creatures, taking a savage beating to the back of his head and receiving 3 damage.
Cor similarly awoken by the gnarled tree creatures, taking 2 damage from the sharpened wood.
(Cor, Garth, and Rad. You’re all prone because you were asleep. {I said you slept in your chainmail due to the proximity of the forest, so no need to worry about that.} In order to stand up, you need to expend half of your movement. Being prone means all attacks against you are with advantage. Just FYI.)
