Kixarn hangs onto his steed tightly as it surges to keep up with the group, his raven tucked tightly into his robes as they speed along. They both peer up ahead, looking for the cause of the dust.

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
As you approach closer to the ruins you can see that some of it has changed. The street that you left from has now become a open pit as the walls and stones around the pit have been piled up thus causing the cloud of dust in the air. You can not yet tell how deep the pit is but you can see some shapes moving along the top of the stone piles that are behind it. It is almost like part of a moat in front of a castle.
Brandishing the wand in readiness, Kixarn prepares to unleash fiery Hell upon possible enemies. Korvo flutters upwards, trying to get a better look at what is on the other side, hundreds of feet in the air.

Avan keeps pace with Kat, shouting, "looks like a trap! I'll fly over, highlighting their positions with bolts of lightning. Three screeches for immediate retreat, two for all clear on the surface, and a single screech means I'm trying to disguise myself"
He begins transforming, growing feathers and shrinking until he is an eagle. Avan-eagle lifts off and flies in a line that's not directly towards the pit, but aiming about 80' to the left of it so that he can plausibly not be associated with the same direction the group is travelling. He also ascends to a 40' height
Disguise (as a regular eagle): 6
He searches not just for enemies, but also evidence of tracks that hadn't been noticed before (apart from ours, obviously).
As you all get ready and head forward you can see more detail. There are some Ogres in armor with bows and clubs roaming around on the far side of the new berm. They are watching you approach and have bows ready. As they see the eagle coming forward they will fire at it thinking that it is a spy for you or a familiar. Avan how low are you flying?
Avan can see the hole in front of the berm is not shallow but about 20-30 feet deep. The looseness of the rock would make climbing it very hard. The hole is also 35 feet across making jumping it even more difficult. Note if you are not very high to use the lightning they will and can fire upon you.
Bastion holds up an arm indicating for the others to slow up and stop out of easy bowshot, "Charging straight into that is a bad idea unless we have no other choice." The construct looks upwards, "Hopefully Avan sees that as well, it will be difficult for us to help if he's shot down."
"Look around, anyone see a way for us to bypass that obstacle and turn the tables?"
Avan is only 40' up, and will begin to wheel left and ascend to 100' as soon as he sees a bow. He's been hit by one of them before and doesn't want to relive the experience. He tries to get an accurate count of the number of enemies and, specifically, bows, while turning back and screeching thrice.
The horses should slow as Wind at Back only covers overland movement, not tactical speed.
Kixarn eyes the distance enemies and offers "I'm sure I can launch fireball from the wand at them far distance away from arrows, and do some damage worthwhile. It's a powerful spell, inside. The spell that powers it can reach great lengths, but we have limited charges, so strategic better than random placement." He calls his familiar back to him and chats with it in an obscure tongue, getting the details of what he has seen,as well.

I will need Avans AC while in eagle form. I will factor in his lightning too. Both Avan and the familar will see six ogres in armor each armed with a great now and a club. They both will see a earth elemental digging at each end of the pit. Making the berm longer as they work. Inside the berm they both will see a pavilion with two people standing guard at it's entrance.
While Dex is lower by 1, Avan-eagle gets 1 bonus for being small, and 1 natural, also retaining armour bonus thanks to the Wild enchantment, for a total of 25 AC. He would only bother to cast Call Lightning the round before he gets within 170' feet, only flying so close if it's necessary for an accurate count and view of the layout. When flying back he runs in a straight line, losing dex to AC (total of 23), but moving at 4x80'.

Rivoril slows down comes to a halt and sees the obstacle he looks to see if there would be any way to go around it for the party. Doing so in a stealthy manner keeping a watchful lookout for danger.
Yeah-fairly sure thats not very promising.
Bastion spurs Arion onward, eager to reach the source of the disturbance.
Rivoril, keeps a sharp look out at the dust cloud trying to find the source of the disturbance.

"This is new." Ghanima said trying to focus on the shapes that were moving. Between the haze and the sunset, she couldn't seem to put faces to form.

He keeps riding, ready to reassess at the first hint of what's going on here.

Seeing the dust cloud, Arilynia goes on high alert, readies herself for anything that may come at them. Bow close at hand as well as sword.
