It was disappointing to find not gear, and yet relieving that none of the idols were particularly familiar or reminiscent of home. The well-carved figuring of the woman and the wolves, however, did spark a bit of curiosity. Jubilant was reaching out to pick it up when she heard the elderly voice. "Ah, hello miss! Sorry to intrude, but me and my companions were hoping to spend a bit of coin. We have a long journey ahead of us, would you have any supplies we can pay for?" she asked. Her eyes flickered back to the small idol of the woman, curiosity still nagging at her. Tearing her attention away, she also moved all of the candy she had found into a small pile. "And before I forget, how much for all of these?"

"Hello, sir." the rough voice of Niner answers. "Oh, the chances are high that my age greatly surpasses yours." Something that could resemble a laugh escaped him. "Anyway, we just arrived in town last night and wondered what this fascinating town has to offer. I was wondering for example to why everyone seems to just take what they needed from that cart outside and why people here seem to not see much value in things like gold but not lacking it either."
While speaking, Niner looks around the shop, searching for anything that could aid him in combat. Perception: 7
"Do you by any chance have some kind of oil on hand? For polishing weapons or armor, maybe?" he then continues.
Strife would quickly fill his arms with as many slabs of meat as he could before stumbling into the shoo. The kobold would have to juggle the meat around a bit to be able to see the wares around him but once he could see them... his eyes would twinkle and his toothy jaw would drop. A moment later at the sound of the shopkeepers voice, Strife would quickly check to make sure he was covered before speaking up. "Uh hi! I was wanting to buy some rations and was also interested in any nice slings or daggers you may have for sale...or anything magical really.." The kobold would say excitedly from under his hood.
"Well, you'd have to be older than me to mistake these shakes for a man!" Granny Belmont burst aloud towards Niner, as she wiggled her hips in a belabored fashion. "And no, I've no oil in my shop. With your nosiness I should think ye'd find some already, but frankly I'm not surprised you haven't with your poor eyes." She turned towards Jubilant, shifting her feet back and forth pitifully to face her. "Oh, pretty young thing, you can have those of course! Gran always treats the children nice. You can have some, too, excited little one." She reached out a shaky, elderly hand and pat the tiefling and kobold on their heads - squarely, luckily, not touching our warlock's infernal horns, or noticing our sorcerer's misshapen head. She then shuffled towards the back, as she shouted "I've some nice quilts, dearie. Oh, and you said you're travelin'? Might want to keep the little one quiet about magic. He's just a boy, sure, but folk aren't all kind like we are. They're cruel to a mere babe's face." She trailed off wistfully, almost sorrowfully, before returning slowly with a thick, colorful patchwork quilt. "3 gold, lass. Fine cloth, and finer wool linin'. Keep you warm even in the Sunderlands! If'n weapons you seek, I'd recommend Jonn the smithy. He's just 'round the corner, always at work." She stopped, looked around, then leaned in close to the party, whispering: "I'd recommend you get what you need and leave. Can't say any else... Chief'd know I told ya."

While not useful in direct combat, you spy a pair of meaty-looking animal traps atop a tall shelf.
Velima issues a low growl at the man as he walked away. What was with these people? Some were overly welcoming, others so closed off, no middle ground. She looked to the sky and closed her eyes, looking within herself for patience, but finding none, she could however feel the sun on her face. She longed for the day when she'd be able to join it in the sky. From there her perspective would change and all these small infuriations would become specks on a much bigger plain. She lowered her eyes once more to the task at hand and sought out someone else she could talk to about where to find the Chief's abode.
Although Jubilant jumped at the pat on the head, she recovered from the close call quickly, popping one of the candies into her mouth with a cheerful smile. She slid one to Strife and one to Niner—the latter only for show, seeing as he couldn’t eat—then grabbed a small handful more, tucking them in her bag. Much better than rations anyway.
”Thank you for all your kind words and your help!” she said brightly, setting three coins on the counter. She attempted to surreptitiously add an additional coin to they payment. (Can some roll a -1 slight of hand for me? Im mobile :p) “And,” she added, dropping her volume, “For the advice. We had no plans to stay long.” Not that she had plans on skipping out before the dinner with the chief. Things were only just getting interesting!

Realizing the woman thinks his is a small child, Strife will continue to work that angle..."Thank you very much! You are as nice as you are pretty!" The kobold would say under his hood as he eats the candy right out of Jubilant's hand because his own hands are still full of meat. "Can I buy these 30 delicious looking strips of meat?" Strife would ask nicely. "We need to make sure we have plenty of supplies before we leave.. and It looks like we came to the right place judging by the quality of your goods..." The kobold would struggle to lift the large stack of meat up to the counter before filling a small bag with candy and placing it next to the meat. "Ms Belmont... Do you have any nice containers for water that arn't really heavy but can hold lots of water? I found lots of yummy food but I am sure I am going to need to drink on our journy as well... The kobold will say innocently twisting his foot on the ground. A moment later, Strife will ask as innocently as he can. "Ms Belmont.. why is everyone afraid of the cheif?

Seemingly no one was really willing to help. Everyone seemed particularly busy, most of them shuffling supplies towards the town center. They seemed bustling, as if in a great hurry to get a lot done at one time. You notice an elderly man walking at a very slow pace. He is dressed in animal skins, with pelts and leathers, and several carved wooden pendants hanging from his neck. He is wearing no shoes, and aiding his stride with a thick wooden cane. He doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry.
"Of course, my dearies. And yes, my child, I'll sell the lot of 30 to you for 50 silvers, since you seem like such a good lad. I don't have much for water other than these canteens I've had for a few years now. A bit dusty, but they should hold a bit." She brought out three well-made canteens with decorative leather straps. The jugs looked big enough to hold at least two days worth of water in them. "You take care of these kids, old man," she said to Niner, waving her goobyes to our heroes.
Velima approached the man slowly but with intent, "Excuse me sir, I'm looking for the Chieftans home" in Velima's mind she swore that if this man didn't help her she'd scream!
"I will, thank you." Niner answers. "And please forgive me for mistaking you for a man." He continues. In reality, he just isn't used to applying genders to anyone. He usually goes with male simply because he is addressed as one too. "But before we leave: I see you have some traps here as well. They would come in handy when traveling through the wild."
(( The candy was explicitly stated to be free for children, the canteens she did not specify a price, and seems to have forgotten she even broke them out. ))
"It's fine, dearie. Hmm? Oh, those old things? Have 'em," Gran Belmont said as she waddled slowly towards the back of her shop. She suddenly seemed very drained, as if all her strength and energy was leaking steadily from her body. "Now if you'll please excuse me, dearies, I must rest for the evening..." Before anyone could stop her, she disappeared into the shadowy back-end of Belmont's Wares.

Velima felt of two minds now, whereas some were far too non responsive, this one seemed far too intrusive. She furrowed her own brow, "He asked us to dinner at his home, but didn't tell us where it is, while my group is shopping for our journey I figured I'd make myself useful."
"Another thing to add to the curiosity of this place." Niner says while picking up the two hunting traps from the shelve."It would only be right to leave the gold for her on the counter. Then we can proceed to the forge, you may be right about them being as helpful as this woman." He then swings the traps over his shoulder and heads out of the store but then sees Strife having trouble carrying all his stuff he adds: "Should I carry some of it for you?"
Strife walked curiously over to the shadowed back-half of the store, after giving his large metal friend some of the meat he bought to carry. He found Gran Belmont sleeping on a small cot, with her arms crossed over her chest. She seemed fast asleep, not waking at the kobold clamoring through her shop with a pack full of wares, nor the metal-man handling the large mechanical traps. As the party collected themselves, heading out to meet the blacksmith - the door creaked open suddenly, letting in a cool breeze. Overhead, the sky began to form ominous clouds, and the light from the sun began the fade over the land.

ACT I No More Heroes Chapter One Death in the Sky
In the distance, grey-and-black clouds clumped together, then split apart violently in a stunning display of power and ferocity. The whirlwinds in the sky began to rip and tear with brilliant flashes of crackling lightning, shining every hue imaginable; after the lights began rippling across the grey-and-black cacophany, the clouds slowly began to glow an ominous, pungent violet. The dark light stretched over the land, coating everything and everyone in a deep blue. The people in the streets began to frantically scurry and flee, as the thunder beaming from the giant storm over a hundred miles away started to beat down over their ears, shaking their bodies and striking terror into their hearts. Tendrils of light then reached out from the epicenter of the storm, stretching across the sky, connecting with the earth in sporadic columns of almost deep-blue lightning.
One of the tentacles then made its way towards Ridington, first striking down at three-hundred miles... then two-hundred... then one... another, about five miles... Within minutes, the tendril had reached its arm all the way over Ridington. Appearing as a straight line cutting the sky into two halves, the light cast the town over with a terrifying violet streak, before erupting into several tiny, distinct, individual streaks of lightning plunging deep into the ground, crumbling the dirt and uprooting the plants, leaving behind deep holes with dim blue emanating from within. The holes then gurgled, and screamed with a horrifying shrill unlike any had ever heard before. From the potholes made by the hellish light-tentacles climbed pitch-black beasts with glowing blue-and-purple eyes, long, lanky limbs, rows of teeth, and bodies with holes in them, where light shone from underneath.
Before anyone realized what was going on, the creatures were already upon the townsfolk, pinning them to the ground and ripping their flesh from their bones with ravenous speed, and blindingly swift violence. The sounds of wolves howling suddenly boomed in the distance, as the wailing, drowned screams of fear and desperate tears of townsfolk continued. The familiar growling of beasts could be heard over the sickening sound of blood rushing from wound after wound. The town was soon flooded by visions and sounds of death; limb after limb unceremoniously tossed to the ground; the entrails and blood of women and children soaking the dirt and feeding the worms with charnel; the liquefied remains of the heads of men, spread over the ground in bits and chunks and pieces of meat and skin and bone. The buildings began to blaze and the world for a moment was in absolute ****in' chaos.
