Kirinar will stay in the water passage, holding the end of the rope as the others climb to the ledge across the large sink hole. His intent is to provide the anchor point so that everyone can make it to the ledge and back safely.
Ransyl safely uses the rope to climb up onto the ledge with Timber, the remainder of the party choosing to stay behind at the top of the waterfall. The chest is before you.
“Well Timber, what do you think? Should we lower the chest down and attempt to open it there or try to open it up here?” Ransyl scratches his head and looks down. “I’d hate for there to be some sort of booby trap that propels us down.”
Ransyl cups his hands over his mouth and cries out to her, “Well, do you think it will be safe to open up here, or should we bring it down to properly open it?”
He scratches his chin, “I suppose we could throw it down and see if we can open it and diffuse any trap that way. It’s not as finesse as your technique, but it could get the job done.”
"Well, I don't see anything that's going to blow up at us, but just to be safe, you might want to back up a bit," Keyleth says, before reaching for the lid to see if it opens.
Alright, well let's get back to the dry rooms, then. There is a darkness that must be dispersed!" Kirinar will hold the line to ensure all safely climb back around to the stream.
Disappointed at the work put in to find the chest just for it to be empty you make your way back up river. You reach the stairs up and explore that direction. You find the backside of a hidden door, the controls easy to operate from this side. Pulling the door open you enter another room.
Skulls crusted with dried mud glower from niches cut into the walls of this tomb. A stone sarcophagus stands at the center of the chamber, its lid adorned with a coiled serpent carved in relief. Behind the sarcophagus, resting atop a marble pedestal, is an ornate crystal box with a small humanoid skull floating inside it.
As you enter the room the voice of a young girl echoes in your minds: “What’s happening? Why can’t I see?”
On the west wall you can see the concave interior of a giant stone skull crusted with moss. The skull’s jaws are opened wide enough to allow you to climb though if you so choose.
A maze of tiny passages are cut into the walls beyond the niches and you can hear the faint yet grotesque scuttling of insects from within.

“Ahbut I’m to old to climb that so I’ll stay back with Kirinar.” Dr A calls to the others.

OOC: So is it just Timber up on the ledge?
Ransyl stows his axe, spits in his hands, and rubs them together before hoisting himself up the rope.

"Throw a chest down a 60 foot chasm into a pool of water? May open it - but how are you gonna find out what was in it? And then get back here?"

"Ahbut Kirinar has a point" Dr A points out somewhat gratuitously.

(Was thinking there was some ground to drop it on)
"Hang on, I'm coming up," Keyleth says, heading toward Ransyl and Timber at the landing where the chest is.
Athletics (applying Guidance, since I think Dr. A is down with Keyleth, right?): 23
She then takes a good look over the chest, to see if it seems to have a trap on it that will spring upon an attempt to see if it's locked.
Investigation (wouldn't have needed guidance on the previous roll, so using it here since it can be used after seeing the result): 25

Keyleth joins the others on the ledge, She inspects the chest and finds no traps that she can see.

Keyleth reaches down and finds that the chest is unlocked. She undoes the latch and opens the chest. Looking inside she sees that it is empty.
“Well that was a lot of work for nothing.” Ransyl huffs.
