"Is there any other reason you have a problem with him. Why not at least met us see how well he can handle the wagon first. Besides we may find that he can very well serve some of the other jobs we may need preformed." Mat says hoping to at least give the half orc a chance so that they could at least find someone that may be of help.
Mimzy climbing into the back of the cart turns and glares at Matue, "you want him... you pay him and by paying him I mean it all totally, 100% comes out of your end, your cut of things... his salary, food, lodging, and upkeep, whatever he may damage and break along the way etc. all on you! Not me, not anyone else in the band... unless they specifically agree to share the responsibility and burden with you but in the end in my eyes at least, he is your responsibility, your minion... I wash my hands of it... so do what you like, you always do."
That said she laughs and gets herself situated in the back of the cart Mimzy is ready to go leaving it to Matueto decide what he wants to do... so they leave when he is ready either with or without Matue's pet.
Jenna nods and takes the gold piece. Ug looking totally confused says "You're giving me money to stay here."
Jenna presses her case "I know he's big and dumb but I tell you true he has a way with horses and he's no liar. He used to race farm wagons and most times came out on top. We're happy to accept your gold for doing nothing but he can surely at least get you to the keep safely. If you're worried about how heavy he is I can tell you that's the strongest looking wagon I ever seen."
Waving for Ug over she says "Lets get us a drink cousin!"
"I swear you two are about as useful as a one legged dog outside of performing sometimes." Mateu says as he will use his cut from the last performances to pay the half orc. "Alright here is the deal. I will give you the two gold you want but to avoid our provisions being worn thin two much you will get the same rations as all of us but if you manage to catch anytning along the way you keep keep it as your own meal." He offers Zaz, considering that he would keep as a bodyguard if he did well. "As part pf this I would also hope you have a weapon and armor incase?"
Dox turns to offer Zaz the reins. "You can drive." Looking back to Mat "you're responsible for him but I'll kick in 2 gold to his pay and buy some extra food. Skip can we get an extra sack of potatoes or something? " Dox tosses the barkeep a few more coins.
(Dox doesn't care he just wants to go, the show and the fights are exciting)
"Hell, I'll throw a couple coins at the kid so I don't have to drive or set up camp. You look like a strong lad." Halleck will say, patting him on the shoulder, adding "just save enough food for us yeah?"
Mimzy smirks at the whole lot of them Mateu, Halleck and Dox, "Oh my gawds... you all have gone soft, I never thought I would see this day" she a laughs shaking her head, "but have it your way but just remember what I said, and I guess if anything the situation is going to give me a chuckle or two, I can just see him ending up in the fighting tournament and winning or peeing in the prize rose bushes at the Lord's Keep. Trust me, this is sure to end poorly. As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions."
"You know what we could just put the reigns on you and allow you to pull our cart Mimzy. You can still preform of course but from here on out you will hafe to sleep on the stables." Mateu says with a sirl, shrugging at being called soft since the same could be said of his master. Who knew perhaps the young half orc could be as useful to them as he had once been.
Zaz is obviously not following some of the conversation but he clearly understands that he gets to go with you and that he should drive "Let me get my stuff" he runs to the other side of the road and grabs a big sack "Jenna said to hurry so I just threw my stuff in here" He first walks over to the mount and introduces himself to her, stoking her gently and then gives her a little nub of a carrot to chomp on. Then hops up onto the driver bench, his sack at has feet.
Skip comes out with a bag of food and hands it up. (It's a standard rations pack)
"Here we go!" Zaz gives a little shake to the reigns and you guys are off.
Once you guys clear the town Zaz takes the horse to a trot and you're soon moving along at a good pace. The ride is surprisingly smooth. There is some traffic on the road and Zaz is occasionally calling out for folks to make way. You're covered wagon is drawing a few looks as most other folks on the road are on foot or just pulling carts themselves or pushing wheelbarrows.
OOC: Is there anything you'd like to do while in the wagon or on your way for the next few hours?
Mat will take seat a next to Zaz or sit close enough to talk, making sure to tune his instruments. As they traveled he will make conversation with Zaz to get a bit of a better read on the young half orc. In case there is any type of trouble he will keep his rapier and shield close enough to easily pick up.
Also in case Zaz doesn't work out can I be paying attention. I wouldn't think just today but over time could I learn to drive at least well enough to not be disadvantaged if not proficient?
Edit, Mat may be next to him and I don't notice with that level of Perception.
While we ride Halleck will randomly be picking on his Bandore, something to pass the time, and almost as a nervous habit. He'll very often also have a smoke hanging out of his mouth while he plays (the fantasy equivalent of a spliff, half weed half tobacco). ((one of his flaws is "everyone is a friend, or potential friend"... though I consider that half bond / half flaw)) When they first take off, seeing Zaz a bit thrown off on what's going on, he'll pick and hum a short song about being on the road and adventures to be found; giving one 1d8 bardic inspiration dice to Zaz.
((will riding in the back count as short rests? :P ))
ooc: Yes, it will count as a short rest. No one is doing anything strenuous.
No one notices anything out of the ordinary on the road. As the day wears on the traffic on the road gets less and less with people turning down side paths, or in some cases setting up camp next the road.
Mat, in talking with Zaz you find out that he does have some skill with fighting and has 2 morningstars, which he is proud to show you, in the sack and he says he knows how to use them. He keeps a sling at his waist and claims that he can hunt and cook. He does have some cooking gear in the sack as well, to back up his claim. He says he grew up in Millers Crossing (not sure if I ever mentioned the towns name) and aside from working the fields and driving the wagons he was also used as guard some nights. That was why he was let go at his last job. The fire broke out on his watch and he swears he never fell asleep or anything and the fire had nothing to do with him but he was still held responsible. He also tells you that he can make the best porridge you've ever had from pretty much any kind of grain.
"Horse hasn't been on the road long, but I assume we're going to stop for the night soon. We just sleeping or standing watch. I worry the wagon makes us a target. I don't mind staying up for awhile with Zaz, he probably sees better than me in the dark."

Dox will load his gear and the food he bought from Skip and climb up.

Also, seeing Dox up front with Zaz Halleck'll also give 1d8 to him to look out. Though isn't actually helping to look out himself.
