I will take you guys down the stairs tomorrow, and you'll be on the third floor.
Josh or Dave, do either of you want to take a stab at telling the story of Death House? There's Inspiration in it for you, even if you already have it. I would include Dov in this competition, but he has certain inside knowledge (which he has been a champ about not applying), and so he has to be disqualified.
I'll share it in full when the time is right. Soon enough.
Can I keep that roll for when it comes up, and roll a dex save to get through the obstacles?
You want to save your sex roll for when what, exactly, "comes up"? This whole conversation has me completely flustered. Calm yourself, and keep this thread clean.
Clearly the parents, Gustav and Elizabeth worshiped Strahd. In this horrible house they had some sort of cult meetings, made a lame alter and statue and held sacrifices. At some point the monster in the basement, Man-thing, was involved. As years went by they had a bit of a cult following, doing rituals down in the basement, probably luring innocents into the house and down to the cellar. whether Strahd go involved or not, it seems he didn't appreciate the weird support and scorned them. but a lot of evil got involved in the house. They had a couple kids, Rose and Thorn, and eventually Gustav had an affair with the nanny that produced a baby. Things were awkward for a bit until the obsession with the cult took over and the kids were abandoned, locked away to die. Even the parents got caught up in the death spiral and now maybe the house is just carrying on without them ???
I assumed the evil monster in the basement was summoned by sacrificing the baby, especially as it appears that was the last sacrifice made. Once the monster emerged, probably killed Mrs. Durst and the staff, possibly together with the house. This is not based on any anything I shouldn't know but do.

This is very close. There are some big clues that you aren't accounting for that would explain the latter part of the story.
The prize(s) will be awarded at the end, when I'm ready to share.
You all descend the secret stairwell to the third floor. At the base of the secret stairwell, you will recall there is a door to the south, to the nanny's bedroom, and to the north. You would calculate, correctly, that the door to the north would open up onto the landing at the top of the circular stairwell, though you didn't come in that way and didn't see that door from the other side.
This place is exhausting. I thought we would learn something from exploring, but I feel we've mainly learned how to take a punch in the teeth. I can't wait to get out of here. Lead the way Kif.
At least we are leaving a bit better equipped than when we arrived.
You listen at the door but don't hear anything other than the din you have been hearing throughout. Clearly, the house is behaving violently.
The door doesn't appear to be trapped. You open it, and see the landing where you fought the animated armor. Before you is what I might call a little swirling wind, like a dust devil. The pieces of the animated armor are gathered in the small vortex, and are slowly drawing closer to each other as they circle in the wind. Everybody roll a Perception check.
If you roll a 15 or higher, read this:
There doesn't appear to be anything animated or alert here, yet. It appears that, if you want to go to the spiral staircase, you can do so - if you hurry - without being in any danger. You don't know what might happen when the pieces of the animated armor draw together and come in contact with each other.
Barnaby gets slapped in the head and comes skidding across the floor, but is unharmed.
:)
My hat!
Barnaby mutters a few arcane words and an invisible hand appears. He uses it to retrieve his rumpled hat.

I'll give it a shot

Is that what you're looking for, because this house is an *******, pretty sure whatever we've seen is illusionary ****ery
Yes, that’s what I’m looking for.
Illusionary ****ery.

Percepting before I open the door, just 'cause 21
If it's all good (like no traps or similar) I'm heading through the door to the north

perception: 18
20 new percept
Oh, right.
Kif, you can go ahead and keep that high Perception check from right before you opened the door. That's fine.
