This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
About 20 minutes into their rest, the metal skull that Bronxis carrying around rattles to life. It rises from into the air with a cackle as everyone leaps to their feet. (Short rest is interrupted!)
(I deemed it not to be a surprise. It rattled and rose with a laugh, alerting everyone in time to prepare for a fight. I did forget to roll with advantage for you, though!)
Shiftburns the floating skull and it whirls around in a circle with a wail. Zinn'sfirebolt splashes solidly against it...but it seems to scorch the creature much less than it should have.
Kaltentuses his booming blade on the electrified skull.
Rapier Attack: 24 Damage: 12
(Should have had sneak attack damage as well. I don't need advantage if there's another enemy of the target (so any of my allies) within 5 feet of it or if I'm within 5 feet of it and no other creatre is within 5 feet of me. And sorry for the absence, went camping for the weekend)
Kaltent stabs at the skull again with his energy-shrouded blade before backing away.
(Booming blade, then back away out of melee range of the skull. Fancy Footwork prevents it from getting an attack of opportunity)
Booming Blade: Attack: 15 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. + Unable to parse dice roll. thunder + Unable to parse dice roll. (sneak attack). Plus 8 thunder damage if he moves before my next turn.

With intense searching, Shift smells and paws around the room and surrounding areas and finds only solid stone walls.
Kaltent puts his thieves tools away again as he looks around at the others. "It's magically locked. Can't pick this one."
Shift, still in his Dire Fox form, walks back over to the group and transforms back into his humanoid form.
"Do we want to take a break here? It seems to be a bit of a dead end, we could more easily defend from here perhaps?"
Shift walks over to the north wall and sits down, resting up against the wall.
"Dibs on not doing first watch."
Shift gives everyone a mischievous grin, but his eyes are not in it. It is obvious that Shift is still feeling his injuries.
"Hey Bronx, you want any magical healing? I got a little left in me."
Shift holds his hand out, waving it around flamboyantly in Bronx general direction, continuing to grin.

"Waaaaagh!" cries Bronx, leaping to his feet, hammer already in hand. He takes a swing!

The skull spins as Bronx's blow connects.

"Oh by the nine hells!"
Shift jumps up and adds his own attack along side Bronx', swiping a clawed hand at the reanimated Floating Metal Skull.
Action: Cast Primal Savagery at Floating Skull: Attack: 16 - Damage: 13 acid damage.

Zinn leaps to his feet, grumpy about the rude awakening and quickly tosses a mote of fire at the skull.

Shift cringes as the electricity goes through him.
Moving faster than normally, Shift dodges back away from the Floating Skull.
Pulling out a small tan bag, Shift pulls out a tiny ball of fuzz and tosses it towards the Floating Skull.
Bonus Action: Disengage (spend 1 ki point, 1/3 remaining)
Move: move back 30 ft from the Floating Skull
Action: Use Tan Bag of Tricks: 3

As the fuzz lands it begins to transforms, Shift points at the Skull and commands,
"Attack the Skull!...aahh, oh..."
As the fuzz completes its transformation, a baboon is left in its place.
"...well that a new one."
The baboon takes a swipe at the Floating Skull as directed.
Baboon Action: Attack the Floating Skull: Bite: Attack: 11 (Advantage from Pack Tactics) - Damage: 2 piercing damage.
