The sounds of combat ring in the air in Phandelin.
The town residents flee the scene as Solaris, Rastin, Autzen and Adolmain engage with the Redbrand thugs.
Solaris, swing of his quarterstaff misses badly, and though his swift kicks and punches are usually fatal as well, his follow-up attack misses.
Adolmain moves quickly, confident that his guiding bolt will end the life of one of the thugs. However, he positions himself incorrectly, attempting to fire a shot around Solaris. The move proves costly, as the magical bolt barely misses the Rebrand. Adolmain realizes his mistake and with favored of the gods the bolt miraculously readjusts and hits the rebrand (1).
The leader this Rebrand troop howls in pain, shocked that some non-humans got the better of him. Enraged he screams, "Kill these mother ****ers!!!" like a wild man, wanting to end what he started.
(OOC: Nick, due to Solaris' position he provides partial cover to Rebrand 1, which gives Rebrand 1 +2 AC. You initial attack hit but favored by the gods gives you a hit)

Attack:24 Damage:6"
Before the leader of the thugs could recover from a magical attack an arrow hits him squarely in the chest. A burly man, amazingly, he still lives. His eyes appear on fire, and he yells in indignation. (Autzen attack HIT).
The group of Redbrands look stunned, but these men are use to fighting, and they aren't easily intimidated. Blood will be spilled, and they intend it to be the blood of the non-humans.
A Redbrand (2) thrusts his sword at his nearest target - Solaris, who finds himself facing the two largest enemies. Not content with one attack, the Redbrand takes another slice at Solaris. (Attack 1: 17 - Damage if Hit: 8 - Attack 2: 12 - Damage if hit: 5 )
The thugs first attack misses, but his second hit was true, finding the right spot to inflict pain on Solaris (Critical Hit on natural 20 - 2 )

Solaris nimbly avoids both attacks, and lives……for now.

The leader of the Redbrands (1) can feel the life draining out of him. If he's going to die here, in this town, on this street, he's going to take someone with him. Enraged, he targets Solaris with two swings of his sword:
(Attack 1: 7 - If Hit: 8 - Attack 2: 17 - If Hit: 6 )
The injuries to the bandit proves too much for him, and his swings were weak, clattering off of Solaris (both miss), who looks at the bandit un-phased and not impressed. Perhaps the human will die without taking one of these "creatures" down with him.
The smallest (4) of the bandits finds himself surrounded, after a successful strike against Rastin, he quickly pivots and strikes twice at Solaris, hoping to injure and maim.

Rastin gave these brigands too much credit. He assumes this coward in front of him must have gotten lucky with his strike since the rest can't appear to hit the broad side of a barn. Rastin hopes he can do better with his weapon than he did last attempt. "I know I'm better than this," Rastin reassures himself as he swings hard again at the foe in front of him who has foolishly exposed his back. (Attack 12 Damage 11)
Rastin then challenges the most able of these degenerates to a duel knowing that it is extremely unlikely any of them can lay steel on him, after watching them swing wildly over and over at Solaris. However, it is evident they have decided to focus their ire on Solaris, presumably thinking him the weak one of our bunch, mistakenly of course. Rastin cannot allow them to focus on Solaris so he shouts a magical threat that compels the big ugly unwounded rebrand to turn his attention on Rastin. "Come pick on somone bigger than you Rebrand. I will gladly give back as good as you can dish out...or better. Come you coward...come at me!" (Bonus action: Compelled Duel - Rebrand 2)

The adventurers appear to get the upper hand, as Rastin's swing is accurate and almost fatal (HIT). Blood and flesh stains the ground the group is on, and it isn't their own.
Rastin's magical cry echoes throughout the air, and both the adventurers and Redbrands notice; all of whom look at the Dragonborn Paladin. A Rebrand momentarily looks entranced (Wisdom Save: 16 ), and though at first it appears the Rebrands feels compelled to only attack the Dragonborn, he shakes it off.

Solaris is a rare adventurer skilled in multiple combat arts. His monk training allows him to be an effective fighter in hand to hand combat. HE grabs the Rebrand just struck by Rastin, who attempts to sidestep Solaris' grip. Solaris' deftly leverages himself, grabs the right arm of the bandit with his left arm, leans backward at an impossible angle, and with incredible agility brings his right arm under the bandits left armpit and throws the Redbrand into the injured Redbrand (1) leader in one swift action. The move was akin to the moves ones see from the famous Neverwinter pit fighters, which allows slaves to win their freedom in duels to the death. Solaris is no slave, but he is an able wrestler. (7 - Redbrand dexterity saving throw fails).
The leader attempts to sidestep the now airborne Redbrand (20 - Dexterity save success) and manages to do so. The thrown Redbrand lands on his back, with the wind knocked out of him (Redbrand 1 now at 04 and is prone)

Autzen finds the duration of this fight troubling. These Rebrands are both sturdy and clearly very lucky. Autzen knows his next shots must fly true. Digging deep into his well (Action Surge), Autzen pulls two arrows and readies them. The first arrow towards their leader (R1) with hopes of breaking their spirit... the second for the ugly one in the middle (R4).

The women made them forget. And the killing made them remember again. Most days begin with a mugging (and invariably killing) some overmatched opponents. Today they picked the wrong opponents.
