Kwalish is a legendary inventor, but his only real known work is the Apparatus of Kwalish, a metallic crab-like vehicle that allows multiple people to ride in it. it is amphibious and can attack with its claws and move around by someone using levers from the inside. The rest of his projects were either lost to time or still hidden away in his lab in the Barrier Peaks, which is just another name for the mountain ranges around Halruaa. Halruaa is a desolate wasteland, and most people believe the mountains keep the dangerous creatures that live there from migrating out, hence the name, "Barrier."

As you leave the "rich" neighborhood headed toward, wherever you intend to go, (it doesn't matter because this happens as soon as you get past the last mansion on the street) You're still in a relatively nice looking area, and you notice a man, semi-well dressed with tattoos and loads of jewelry, leaning against a wall, watching you. He calls out in a thick, cockney accent, "Nice day, eh? I didn't catch ya goin' in, woulda got ya then, but no worries. Ya can pay now, eh cutter? One gold a head, everyone's gotta do it. I'll make ya a deal though, cuz I'm A nice guy, four gold for the lot and ya can be on yer way. No funny business, yeah?" As he says the last sentence, five thuggish looking folks appear out of the alley behind him, and another five come out from behind barrels and around corners on the other side of the street.
Everyone make a perception check, DC 20. Anyone who succeeds and Az Emberi:
There are more than just the eleven people on the ground. You see movement in some windows on the second story of some buildings, even on rooftops. You aren't sure how many more there are, but if things get violent you're facing at least 15 people, maybe more.
If you roll above 25:
There are 21 total thugs here, including the leader.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Sonny, this IS funny business- ye havent even told me what is it ahm buyin from ye for it?" Fjolnir asks, appearing to stop suddenly, dropping a piece of jerky, scanning about, and palming his bow in the process of picking up and blowing off the piece. Perception: 21

Perception. 14
Staring at the leader while my third eye visibly looks around. It comes to focus on him as well so all three eyes are focused intently on him. "We can easily kill 11 street thugs. Likely before your friends watching from the windows and roofs have time to react. The trouble is I'm unsure of how many of you there are and I don't feel like dealing with the hassel of waiting for my friend here (gesturing to Absinthe) to clean all of your skulls to add to his mug collection. So I will pay the 4 gold from my own purse to save us from wasting our time on you today. This deal and your lives (looks to the roofs and yells) all of your lives will be forfeit if you cross us again."
At Fjolnir, "Oh, my apologies, It's a tax ta be in the city, ya follow?"
At Dustfinger, "No need ta get all violent now. We don't want it ta come to that, do we fellas?"
At Az Emberi, "Aye, ye got some sense about ya, don' ya cutter?" He pockets the coins. "Ya won' see us again, Trav'ler's blessings on ya, cutters. Yer paid-up ta the Legion, yeah? No further trouble from us." His men slink back to their holes and he walks away, back into the alley.
She shrugs. "I don't know or care, it has nothing to do with me."
Garrett Chimes in, "The Vagrant Legion, I think. They do that to newcomers, anybody they don't recognize they make pay a tax. I hear rumors they've been abducting people who can't pay. Just rumors, but people HAVE been disappearing, and it might be that the two things are unrelated and people are trying to link them, but I'm not sure, that's just what I've heard."

Rolls his eyes. They were shit when run by that woman giant and they must've lost their paladin leader to to fall to these shitty depths. Someone should, take up the torch and reclaim that organization.... not it.
Absinthe takes the opportunity to brew another barrel of his famous Stormbrew along the journey. Offering everyone a drink once complete. (makeing it known in case I haven't before. The ale I brew is free to the party, I don't sell it since Absinthe has no list for riches and lives a poor man's lifestyle.) "I will see to it that we always have drink!"
This is my favorite person right here. His fighting style alone is impressive as it is. Have you ever seen a Goliath dong Mary? It puts most men to shame.
I pause waiting for a response. Yes, well. You're going to see it, we all are. Combat is art, Absinthe is a painter and his paintbrush ****** ** *** **** the **** ***** to the ground.
Do any of you want to accomplish anything in town before getting to the docks to garner passage on a ship? That was the only mode of travel suggested, so I assume that's the goal since no one contested it.
I think I'll also continue XP progression in this campaign. As always, I'll keep track of it, and if you don't want to be bothered tracking it, it'll be under notes in the Campaign page, and I'll inform you when you level up if you're that lazy. (haha)
For paying off the "tax collectors," you all gain 100 XP, bringing your totals to 7624.
Az Emberi easily finds the local message distribution center and writes a note to Hymir. An old man behind a desk who looks just like you'd expect says, "That'll be 3 copper, please. Where'd you say? A mine near Phandalin? Well I can't do ancient unknown mines but I can do Phandalin since it's close."
Az Emberi, you can write what you want to include in a note to Hymir. Spoiler tag it if you wish, and regardless of its content, we will move along.
Fjolnir leads the party to the docks of Neverwinter. Having been on a crew before, it's easy for him to find. The docks are busy. All manner of different ships are docked, with one or two sailing in or out at any given time. Fjolnir knows the following information, and if you relay this knowledge to the party, anyone else in the party may look as well, except Hymir, he's not there:
These vehicle descriptions are straight from the PHB, use this information to decide what you want to travel down the Sword Coast in. The speed of the ship will determine how many days at sea, and how many times I roll on the random encounter table before you reach your next destination/ port city. Each part of the ship is targetable, has its own AC and HP, and has a different effect if destroyed, which should be pretty obvious. I have included each ship's Hull stats to give an idea of what each ship can take. The crew can also be attacked and killed, and if the crew gets below a certain number, certain operations of the ship will not be available. For example: a Galley needs 40 crew members to operate the oars properly. If its sails are destroyed and you have less than 40 crew left, you're dead in the water. Each ship's captain will likely be at the helm, which is required to turn, and each weapon takes 2 crew members to operate. Players may also take control of weapons or oars if a lack of crew exists, but unskilled players may need to make successful skill checks to operate certain things.
Galley: Travel pace- 4mph (96 miles per day), Hull AC 15, HP 500, Helm, Oars, Sails, Ballista(4), Mangonel(2), Naval Ram.
Keelboat: This vessel is too small for your party.
Longship: Travel pace- 5mph (120 miles per day), Hull AC 15, HP 300, Helm, Oars, Sails. (Large capacity passenger ship, no weapons)
Rowboat: Literally a ******* canoe. Great option for traversing the entire length of the Sword Coast. DM recommended.
Sailing Ship: Travel pace- 5mph (120 miles per day), Hull AC 15, HP 300, Helm, Sails, Ballista, Mangonel.
Warship: Travel pace- 4mph (96 miles per day), Hull AC 15, HP 500, Helm, Oars, Sails, Ballista(2), Mangonel(2), Naval Ram.
Once you pick a ship to approach and talk to the captain, I'll give more details about crew, capacity, ship features, etc.
