In response to Fjolnir, the wizard says, "The Black Spider hired the Redbrands to control the population of Phandalin. The Cragmaw clan is also under his employ, and he sent bugbears to assist in our endeavors, that is the extent of our, "alliance." The bugbears are not needed however, we had this town in our palm, well, until right now. Now I don't know what will happen."
Hymir and Fjolnir start searching the desk for anything good. Aside from the glass staff leaning against it, various papers and notes are stacked neatly on the desk, mostly consisting of written orders to apothecaries and alchemists in nearby settlements for more materials for his workshop.
One note looks particularly interesting:
Lord Albrek,
My spies in Neverwinter tell me that strangers are due to arrive in Phandalin. They could be working for the dwarves. Capture them if you can, kill them if you must, but don’t allow them to upset our plans. See that any dwarven maps in their possession are delivered to me with haste. I’m counting on you, Iarno. Don’t disappoint me.
In response to Hymir he says, "I have some scrolls in the chest, my spellbook will be of no use to you, just please, don't hurt me any further." He spits up a little bit again. "I'll go quietly, take me in."
Answering Fjolnir again, "That, was an unfortunate event. The man attacked some of my Redbrands, and they acted in self-defense. His family is here. Safe in the holding cells on the East end, for now."
Inside the chest at the foot of his bunk is: 180sp, 130gp, a silk pouch containing five carnelians (10gp each), two peridots (15gp each), and one pearl (100 gp), a scroll of charm person and a scrollof fireball.
He looks at Az Emberi, "Cragmaw Castle, I don't know, I've never been. I only know it's in the Neverwinter Wood. When I met with the Black Spider it was at a neutral location. The Bugbearsknow, you can ask them, if you're able to coerce them into talking."
"You know of the "freaky eyeball *******"? It is the only one here, thankfully. A shakey agreement with that one. Leaves you alone if you feed it. Bugbears there are only three, but they have a goblin for what that's worth, and total Redbrands, uh, let me think... about 20. Depending on how many are out at the bar or in town, could be 8-20 inside the manor, and the remainder in town."
He squints at the glass eye. "I've never seen an organization that uses that."

is there a way we can disband this group now that we have the leader or do you think turning him in by itself would do that, would we have to make him disband the rest of the Redbrands they might try and break him out.
at a separate time after we are all done and start escorting him out and when we talk about the loot i would like to comment
i would like to take these 2 wizard scrolls to study and the Spellbook as well if i can't decipher it then i can trade it in for a new one that i need
and as for the pearl we maybe getting a free one from that dwarf lady so i would like to hold onto that as well until we get the free one in which case i will sell this one and put the money into the party loot.
"Is this staff worth anything?" He asks, looking at Hymir. Fjolnir then stops- stares at Albrek a moment. "If the spider hired the Redbrands the spider is their master- we're not getting them to just leave. And if they have spies in Neverwinter, they'll have contacts there to subvert justice there, too, i'd figure." He looks at Dirk..."You could take his clothes and staff and assume his identity and order the redbrands around? Or we can serve justice here, swift, and move on to find the family that's down here."
I can disguise myself, but I'm not sure if I can imitate his voice. I don't think it's our place to judge the judicial system in Neverwinter, it is what it is.... not my problem. I have no problems killing save for a man who surrenders.
"Then we don't kill him. But if we take him through town we may have to fight all the redbrands in the sleeping giant inn."
"I suggest. We bring him to Sidlar gaged and with a bag over his head. We let no one else know of his capture. Then we go to the slerping giant and pay the keeper there to keep whatever redbrands in house there with "free" drinks. We come back here sweep the manor then go back to town and slit the throats if the bandits asleep in theur cups."
Glasstaff stays quiet at Hymir's comments about disbanding the Redbrands, but at Az Emberi's and Fjolnir's mention of not caring whether he lives or dies, "No, please, a trial! Let me live! I do no good to anyone dead!"
To Az Emberi's question about traps and defenses, "I don't have a blueprint or anything, but on this side of the chasm is the common room and the bugbear's room, as well as my quarters obviously, and on the East side is storage, the crypts, the pens, the barracks, the cellar, and the armory. If there are any traps, I didn't put them there, but I can't speak for my Redbrands, I told them to protect this place." You do not detect deception.
To Fjolnir's remark about the Black Spider, "We are our own organization, the Redbrands are under MY command, not the Spider's. He contracted ME to take care of this town, I just happen to have the Redbrands at my side."
Anyone can make an Arcana check on the staff.
Also, Halia is a human, not a dwarf.

alright before we do anything permanent I think he has some more questions to answer so let's take him to sildar and sell some of this loot. I do have to swing by a certain dwarf....wait she was human wierd, anyway I have to show her this guy grab a pearl so we can sell the one we found for gold.
I put a cloak over his head and with no objections proceed to lead him to sildar stopping at the mining exchange and when we get there while everyone is talking I would like to cast identify on the staff
You escort the wizard and all his belongings (Which are now belong to you) out through the tunnel entrance without issue. It is still early in the daylight hours as the whole thing didn't take long. You bring him South around the edge of town to keep him out of view and have less of a chance to run into other Redbrands that might give you trouble. Upon entering the Miner's Exchange, Halia is nose deep in a ledger again, and starts to give you the same welcome she did the first time you entered, but looks up and gasps at the sight of the covered individual. "Wha- Who is-" She puts the pieces together and continues, "Well you didn't have to BRING him here, I would've believed you." She gets up and comes around the desk.
Glasstaff starts saying, "Halia? Are we at the Miner's Exchange, oh no... Halia's-"
"Shut up, you! Your hold on this town is over! I told you this town needed leadership, but not like this!" She reaches under her cloak and you see the hilt of a dagger, but before she draws it, she takes her hand off and retreats slowly back around her desk. "My apologies. He is already in chains, killing him will do nothing. I won't interfere with his custody or trial, that was not professional of me. Again, I am-"
"You're evil!"
"Shut up,Asstaff! Now, did you find anything in his possession that might be appealing to me?" I'm going to assume for brevity you produce the correspondence you found on his desk. "Excellent, this is from the Black Spider. Perfect. Iarno Albrek, you're a fool. Well done all of you, now that he's out of the picture, I can work on running this town more efficiently. What... Do you already have a pearl?" She notices Hymir preparing the identify ritual with pearl in hand.

Hymir finishes his identify ritual, and the nature of the staff is clear to him. This is a staff of defense:
This slender, hollow staff is made of glass yet is as strong as oak. It weighs 3 pounds. You must be attuned to the staff to gain its benefits and cast its spells.
While holding the staff, you have a +1 bonus to your Armor Class.
The staff has 10 charges, which are used to fuel the spells within it. With the staff in hand, you can use your action to cast one of the following spells from the staff if the spell is on your class’s spell list: mage armor (1 charge) or shield (2 charges). No components are required.
The staff regains 1d6 + 4 expended charges each day at dawn. If you expend the staff’s last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the staff shatters and is destroyed.

You leave the Miner's Exchange, having traded out most of your goods for money, and head down the street to the Townmaster's Hall with a covered Glasstaff/Iarno Albrek in tow. As soon as you enter the hall, Sildar stands up as he sees the red robed wizard in shackles. "Is this Glasstaff? the head of the Redbrands? Lord's Alliance thanks you. I-" You pull of the cover from his head. "Iarno!? What is the meaning of this! You're Glasstaff? It all makes sense... You disappeared the same time the Redbrands started to... Why? You were supposed to uphold honor, stamp out evil! I was worried you had... This is unforgivable! You will stand trial in Neverwinter for this."
Harbin Wester, the Townmaster comes out at this point. "Noooo, noooo! They will get him out! Retaliation! You're not supposed to make waves!"
"Shut up, Harbin, you're a sad townmaster, and you need to go back to your day job. I wouldn't be surprised if you were supplying the Redbrands with money, you sniveling coward! You're under investigation next. Iarno- Glasstaff goes in the holding cell until I take him back to Neverwinter with me, and their reward is coming out of YOUR bank." Sildar puts his own manacles on the criminal and gives your set back, leading the helpless wizard to a cell. "Oh, right reward. Also, if any of you would like to join the Lord's alliance, you have shown bravery and served proper justice today. You know what we stand for, let me know, and I'll induct you." He hands the party 200 gold.
You all gain 80XP for turning Glasstaff in to authorities.
With Glasstaff turned over, are you going back into the cave? Which part are you exploring next?
i investigate the room i am looking for his spell book and any other spell scrolls
investigate 12
if i can't find any i question him
where is your spell book wizard without it you are worthless to me and will die but with it you will be no threat and therefore no need to kill you.
