Briga whirls, brandishing her glaive a bit randomly, then collects herself. "Of yeah, Tyrus is right. The kenku totally shot at us, look here. They are clearly enemies. Archer enemies. Arch enemies? Anyway, bad guys." She shows the sergeant, Renear, and anyone else interested, where the arrows pierced her. "I thought Griff was a goner! Anyway, they went upstairs. Maybe they flew away through an upstairs window? Do they fly, kenku?"
"They don't fly" replies Staget in a monotone voice. "I have my men covering up there, they won't get too far,"
For those from Waterdeep:
Neverember is a familiar sounding name to you, and it should be. The previous open lord was a Dagult Neverember, who also happens to be Renear's father. Both he and his father are well known in Waterdeep, more his father as the previous Open Lord, but Renear has many contacts still within the city himself.
"I don't know of any hideouts," Renear begins, "But one of the Xanathar thugs mentioned something about yellow symbols in the sewers, I'm not familiar with that sort of terrain," Renear says sadly.
"I'm glad your safe, sir, but you mentioned another missing person," Staget says, turning to the group. "If they've taken them down to the sewers, then it is out of our hands, our patrols don't cover sewer works," Staget continues. "You, as hired hands, on the other hand - do not have that risk, but it's not necessarily safe down there. I only ask of you one thing. Keep the blood off the streets, will you?" he says.
It's at that point you hear a loud crash upstairs as the door above is barged open. From downstairs, you can't see down into the corridor where this is, but as you tighten your hands around your weapons, you hear "Stop right there, you four, you're under arrest," coming loudly from upstairs.
At the sound of guards breaking in upstairs, Tyrus ducked into a position where he could see, but not be easily seen from, the top of the stairs. If it turns out that the kenku are going to allow themselves to be arrested, he will relax and put his spell components back into his pouch.
Assuming there is no combat, Tyrus will then approach Briga and, while looking appraisingly at Griffdar, speaks quietly with her.
"You haven't really pocketed those ingots have you? Even if they've been stolen, they still must belong to someone..." And, after a moment's consideration, he adds, "And silver doesn't corrode, it just tarnishes. If those ingots are silver, then that black stuff on the surface will come off easily with a little buffing. And, if that's the case, those ingots are as good as coin."
"I know time is of the essence sergeant so could you show us the nearest way into the sewers please."
"Still after our encounter here it would seem that the opposition is far greater than Volo anticipated. Since we are going after people that have broken the law and threatened my lord here," he bows to Neverember " would it be to much to ask for some equipement for our endeavor." he smiles and adds." For the good of Waterdeep of course."
(OOC: not sure what you said about that but for equipement how did you want us to manage that. Just to know if Arlon has potions or scrolls on his person.)
Briga answers Tyrus, "No way man! I didn't pocket a bunch of silver bars and I definitely did not pocket those paintings."
"Sergeant, my friend Griff is right, we do need to go into the sewers to find Floon, Renear's friend who was taken by the Zhents and I guess later the Xanathar. If the sewers are our of your jurisdiction we could use some better gear to get the job done, or, we could take some of the stuff in that closet <Briga points it out> and buy our own potions and whatnot. Either way, it's going to be dangerous. You'd like to keep the blood off the streets, I'm chill with that - we'd like to keep our blood in our body, y'know?"
"I guess we could also claim some of these weapons and stuff from all the dead ones, here. Looting the dead is is weird, but I guess it's not doing them any good. With your leave sergeant - your call. Just know either way we *are* going into those sewers to find Mr. Neverember's friend. This Floon is lucky - he had important friends, the son of the former open lord *and* a famous author."
"I will be honest with you," Staget begins. "All of our resources are being used to fight the very gang war that had a battle in this warehouse. Unfortunately, the gangs have spread beyond the Dock Ward and so we need to keep the equipment for the city watch, we've even had to borrow some of what we have to deal with this from the City Guard. We aren't necessarily proud of that. They will probably rub that in the watches faces once this is all over for weeks," he said, in a resigning tone.
"Take what you need from here, everything that's happened here is obvious, and it's just another gang attack. Feel free to any of the weapons. The silver is yours, but the paintings need to be seized to make sure they haven't been stolen.
If there have been no claims in two tendays, then feel free to visit the Palace in the Castle Ward, and if they have not been claimed as stolen you may be able to purchase them - otherwise, they will go to the city," he added, in regards to the paintings. "This sort of thing can usually end up on the black market, and if they have been stolen - then the owners would have the first rights to them, I hope you understand. They just aren't mine to give away,"
With that, Staget straightened up, and the twelve city watchmen upstairs take the four kenku out of the warehouse without trouble. The kenku can see their outnumbered and surrounded - they have nowhere left to go, and willingly go with the watch patrol upstairs.
Briga nods and goes to collect the fifteen silver trade bars, blackened from corrosion, worth 50 gold each, from the second crate in the room she previously investigated. "Sounds good to me, we get that resources are tight, thank you, sergeant. Guys, with this we should be able to get outfitted and prepped to go to the sewers and get our rescue on. I think a detour to the markets is in order first, before we go looking for yellow symbols in the sewers. Agreed?"
OOC: That's 750 GP. Are all PHB items available in Waterdeep markets? No magic items/weapons/armor I assume. Potions of healing, basic weapons, armor, kits, tools, etc?
"The silver will help. If you cannot lend any assistance then so be it. The paintings are yours the rest we will take, Abandonned Dragons... though time may not be on our side and though a man's life is at stake. I think the wisest course of action is to take the night. Sleep the best we can. In the morning we take these bars and get what we need and then we head into the sewers as soon as we can. We will be no help at all if we aren't prepared properly." Griff begins to look through the rest of the crates for better armor than he has or anything else that might net them a good amount of coin.
Briga says, "I agree with that, actually, Griff - we're not good to anyone getting in over our heads again and dying. I worry for the guy, but if they think Floon is a valuable hostage and he looks that much like a Neverember, they probably will keep him alive. Probably not in great condition, though, so as soon as we're rested and geared up, we'll go get him tomorrow."
The crates contain mostly sandals that are out of fashion. Those that don't just have fish in barrels that have been pickled. The killed thugs are each wearing a set of hide armour.
(OOC: Pretty much anything is available in Waterdeep - Magic items included - however, they aren't typically cheap - for example - a basic +1 weapon costs 1000 gp. If you have the gold, then it's definitely available - but that would be the cheapest magical weapon you could get. +1 ammunition costs 25 gp per arrow/bolt, for single use (the arrow becomes non-magical once shot. Everything is available in Waterdeep - all PHB equipment and magical items, as a trading hub on the Sword Coast so most things are available. If you're looking for anything, in particular, let me know and I'll let you know if it is available and how much it will cost you).
OOC: Thank you for the answer - that sounds reasonable for the city.
IC: Briga goes to trade the silver bars for gold pieces and splits the funds among the party members, if possible, 187.5 GP per member when divided four ways.
Then, she will use her split of the loot and her prior gold to purchase Thieves Tools for 25 GP, a Portable Ram for 4 GP, a Crowbar for 2 GP, she will have her Glaive "Silvered" for 100 GP, she will buy a Heavy Crossbow for 50 GP, a Crossbow Bolt Case for 1 GP, and 20x Crossbow Bolts for 1 GP. She will offer her Light Crossbow to her party members, and if none want it, she will sell it for 12.5 GP ( 1/2 of the 25 GP value for the weapon). She will spend a total of 183 GP, or a net 170.5 if she sells the light crossbow for 12.5 GP, leaving her with either 37 GP or 24.5 GP (factoring in her 20 starting GP from her background of Urban Bounty Hunter), if all of this is available and approved.
OOC: I think we're good, just wanted to make sure there were no objections and to confirm with the GM the sale of the silver, division of funds, and purchases, is all reasonable for downtime abstraction.
Now Arlon will need some rest to get his spells back but not at the cost of finding our elusive friend. If we don't have time I ll use that crossbow of yours and cantrips.

“No promises Sargent.” Griff snarls. He cracks his neck. “Do any of you have first aid of any kind?”

OOC: Once we confirm the item availability, ie, any magic weapons/items, PHB items, potions, etc, we can probably make purchase decision.
