(OOC: The coup de grace there made sure it was dead also :))
When Arlon sees the oozy substance start moving toward the group slowly, his first instinct is to try and set this pool of oil on fire. Thinking that it would set the thing alight, but instead it seems to absorb some of the fire damage, and even though it made contact and some damage was done to it, it doesn't seem to have taken as much damage as you had expected.
Briga, keeping her distance, almost as soon as Arlon reacts, uses her glaive on the pile of ooze. As she does so, it does take damage, but the weapon itself seems to corrode away slightly as she withdraws it from the creature. (OOC: Your Glaive now has a -1 Penalty).
The ooze moves over towards Briga and Griffdar who had been working on unbarricading the door, so are the closest to the creature. Griffdar being five foot closer, it uses a pseudopod that extends out of the puddle and attempts to hit Griffdar.
Attack: 11 Damage: 10
Thankfully, the pseudopod misses Griffdar and lands on the floor next to him, as it withdraws its pseudopod back in to itself getting ready for another strike.
Tryus has just finished pulling out the candle when he saw that the fire bolt didn't do as much damage as expected from Arlon a few seconds ago, so now knows that setting it alight might not be as effective as he first thought, but he does have a candle and match in hand, and the lantern is being held by the mage hand.
(OOC: Griffdar - still waiting on your action for this round - as I mentioned the nature check was not going to count as your turn :P)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
[OOC: Because tomorrow's going to be a busy day for me, I am going to make my move now so as to not slow things down.]
"By Moradin's beard! Fire barely singes that thing!" Tyrus yells. "And don't be wasting your good steel on it, this is what corroded all them weapons we saw back there."
Then, while leaving his Mage Hand in position so that the others can see, he will thrust the candle and the flask of oil back into this backpack, pull his crossbow free and fire a bolt at the creature. [Attack: 6 ; Damage 6 ]
For his move, he will simply make sure that the duergar's unconscious body is between himself and the horrible creature.
OOC: I had fired the heavy crossbow at the creature - are we changing that to be a use of the glaive? Just want to clarify. She had fired the crossbow at the ooze, not used the glaive.
"
Briga draws and fires her heavy crossbow at the thing, keeping her distance.
OOC: I will be off for the next few days, likely until 5/28 - feel free to RP Briga for the remainder of the battle. To reiterate, she has only fired her crossbow at the Ooze, she has not used her Glaive, she will continue to fire the heavy crossbow at the Ooze, +4 to hit bonus, 1d10+2 piercing damage if a hit. Thanks, all!
OOC: Briga, if you used crossbow - just bear in mind any ammo you use after this fight will be unusable or recoverable so it's important to make sure you mark it off ;))
Griffdar swings his greatsword at the ooze and manages to score a hit on the creature, but as you pull the sword away it is damaged and you see some of the metalwork corroded. (The weapon now has a -1 penalty that is permanent.)
Arlon then shoots off a batch of magic missiles, this time the ooze taking the full brunt of the blow, and the pile coming to a motionless puddle on the floor in front of you, unmoving.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
To make sure the creature is really dead, Tyrus will fire his crossbow bolt at it. [OOC: The rolls I made before were an attack roll of 9 and a damage roll of 7, but I can roll again if you like. I have also crossed the bolt of my character sheet because there's no way Tyrus is going to try to retrieve the bolt.]
If there are no more signs of immediate danger, Tyrus will put his lantern on the ground and release his Mage Hand cantrip before checking the duergar to make sure he is medically stable and still unconscious. He will then bind the duergar's legs together using some of the bedding in the room. While he does this, he will check the person's body to see if he has gang tattoos like the human had (Roll: 7 ; +1 for Investigation or +3 for Perception).
[OOC: Is there anyway for Tyrus to use his healer's kit to wake up an unconscious character early? Happy to spend a charge, if necessary (I've already checked one off for stabilising the duergar in the first place). If not, I believe Griffdar could wake him with a single point of healing from his paladin's Lay on Hands ability, but that's up to YoFizz.]
"I want to question this duergar bastard," growls Tyrus. "Find out what he's doing here in the sewers of a city rather than in the deeps."

As breath is brought back to the duergar who attacked you, he looks up, defeated and surrenders. "So, look who's come to save the royal one. Well, you're too late, we have him under our control now - he'll do as Nihiloor says now," and he laughs. "So, see if you can get to him beforehand, but which door? That is the question - which door leads to your friend. Well," he spits out some blood from his mouth, "I guess you've got me where you want me. So, he probably wouldn't still be alive if he was behind that door that.... monster came out of. We were trying to keep it out. Now you've dealt with it, so now it's one thing we don't have to do and still get paid for. I don't know whether to be annoyed or happy, I like my job and I don't want other people doing the things I'm supposed to," he says with a hint of pride.
"Through the southern door you'll find what you came for, but don't let me say you're in for more than you bargained for," he says with a glint in his eye.
[OOC: DM, For the record, does the duergar have the same tattoos as the dead human? And, can Tyrus use his healer's kit to bring him around?]
[OOC: The following all assumes that the duergar has been awakened, I'm just trying to save some time.]
"Okay, deep one," Tyrus says in common trying to sound as intimidating as possible [Intimidation Roll: 13 ]. "Answer our questions and ye might live to crawl back down into the depths. Play silly buggers though, and my dragonborn friend here will make this ye last day."
The questions:
1. What are you doing here? 2. Who is your boss? 3. Where is the man you kidnapped?
Some of the above questions are open-ended, so we'll have to role play them most likely. The following are contingency plans to save time:
If the duergar refuses to talk, Tyrus will say the following to him in dwarvish, "You might think you're tough, foul one, but I can kill you painfully with just my words." Then, after a suitable delay, he will add, "And then I will bring you back to life again and we can try this all over again." [This threat might require another roll, but I'm not sure which: 15 ; +2 if Intimidation or Deception, +4 if Persuasion.]
If the duergar tries to escape, Tyrus will turn his words into a casting of the vicious mockery cantrip [Wisdom Save versus DC of 12 or take 1d4 psychic damage: 4 ].

Spitting out some more blood, the duergar looks up at Tyrus asking the questions. Tyrus doesn't notice any tattoos on the duergar.
"This sewer belongs to the Xanathar Guild, so in a sense - you have come into my home and invaded my space, as a member of the guild. The only person I report to lays dead on the ground splatted over there, he would be the one you have to question regarding the guild's operations, he is the only other member of the guild I am fully aware of, but also Nihiloor made sure his presence was known. As to who Nihiloor is, why don't you go through the door and find out for yourselves? It can't be put into words," he said, not smiling anymore.
(Feel free to make an insight check to see if he's being honest).
Apart from the nature of this Nihiloor figure, he is being earnest. It seems that the human was the one he reported to, and for the nature of the guild, it would probably be one of only a few members that he would actually know. However, he seems to be deliberately vague in regards to Nihiloor, but you get the sense it's more out of fear than because he doesn't want to.
"Does anyone else have any questions for the prisoner?" Tyrus asks of the others. "It sounds to me like we killt the wrong one. This one be just muscle, without even a tattoo to his name..."
"Speaking of which," he says, looking back down at the duergar. "What do the tattoos represent? Ranking in the guild?"
