You all quietly continue making your way towards the south end of the corridor. Starting to look up the stairs and keeping an eye out for things, expecting to see more goblins come out, you almost wish that is what site greeted you, rather than the one you did see.
Instead, you notice threadbare curtains hanging on the eastern wall of a long hall, in the middle of the room is a half-orc in dingy robes standing with his foot on the chest of a human with wavy red-blond hair, similar to Renear's. Fire burns around the clenched fist of the half-orc, and his victim cries and squirms helplessly beneath him.
Seated on a raised platform to the south of the room at the other end, is a nightmarish figure wearing black robes. It has large white eyes and rubbery purple skin, with four tentacles encircling its inhuman mouth. It cradles and gently caresses what looks like a disembodied brain with feet, similar to the one that burst out of the Duergar.
The first thing Tyrus does is close the hood on his lantern completely trusting that there is enough light in the hall so that the humans can see.
[OOC: DM, Based on the fact you haven't asked us to roll Initiative, I'm going to assume that the creatures in the hall don't know we are here yet. However, what I would like to know is whether the half-orc is about to do something with his victim? Ideally, Tyrus would like to consult with his fellow party members about a plan of attack, but that's not going to be possible if the human is about to be killed by the half-orc.]
"Stomp the bad guys and save the innocent victim is all I've got. I'm lousy on the specifics. I don't think they're going to listen to reason, though. Unless someone has a better plan, maybe I rush in there and try to take out the guy in robes who's doing a face barbecue on Volo's gentleman friend, maybe someone can grab Floon and drag him out before the guy with the squid beard or his pet brain can react," Briga whispers. "Griff, you can back me up, get in the thick of things to smack 'em down and keep them off of Floon? Tyrus, Arlon, you dudes can provide covering fire, spells and crossbows and stuff, maybe? Also, remember how I kinda freaked out and lost my s*** in the fight with the dwarf and the other dude? Yeah, I'm going to freak out and lose my s*** again, here."
[OOC: DM, Can we have the distances to the half-orc and the thing on the throne please?]
Tyrus nods in quick agreement to Briga's plan.
"It all be depending on what that benighted half-orc's going to do," Tyrus whispers as he sticks his hand axe into his belt and unties his crossbow from his backpack. "Someone keep an eye on that bastard. We will have to act fast and first, if it looks like he's going to kill that human."
[OOC: If we're not in combat and we are all close enough to talk quietly with each other, Tyrus would like to whisper inspiring words to both Briga and Griffdar and give them both a die of Bardic Inspiration for the next 10 minutes. Otherwise, he will wait to the appropriate time in combat to do so.]

OOC: Once the distances have been provided by the GM, if allowable Briga will enter rage just before entering combat, allowing her to use the attack action and a bonus action attack in the first round of combat, if permitted.
[OOC: The Half-orc is currently casting a spell with fire around his fist, he is about 30 feet away with the red-haired human on the ground, he also has his back turned to the group and is facing the south dais, putting him on the northern side of the man on the floor. The other creature, along with the brain, is 20 feet back from that on a raised dais at the other end of the room, so about 50 feet away from you. There are drapes on the eastern wall and a set of double doors on the western wall, about 20 feet away from the creature, and 30 feet away from the party, the brain is currently sitting on the creature's lap].
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing that the half-orc is casting a spell and that Floon could be about to get killed, Tyrus yells, "Go! Now!"
He will then load his crossbow and, after Briga and Griffdar have left the stairs, move into the room moving to the right so he can get a clear shot at the creature at the other end of the room. He hopes to end up about 30' away from his target but to one side of the hall.
Initiative Roll: 16

OOC: Assuming Briga was permitted to use a Bonus Action rage *prior* to the proper combat round, I'll describe her actions accordingly.
14 - Initiative
19 - Attack Action with Glaive
17 - Bonus Action attack through Polearm Master
Briga moves up to 10 feet away from the half orc, makes two attacks from her 10 ft reach with the glaive, then uses her remaining 10 feet of movement to move back, positioned for an Opportunity Attack as a reaction if any enemies move within her reach.
OOC: Briga would not provoke opportunity attacks against herself, btw, if the shape of the battlefield has changed by the time her action comes around, she'd adjust movement/attacks accordingly.
Tyrus is the first to notice the immediate danger sending a crossbow bolt to the half-orc mage, and striking true with the crossbow shot. He cries out as the arrow shoots him in the shoulder, the spell is interrupted and as the half-orc is about to go down, he screams out, keeping himself very hurt, but still standing.
This doesn't last long as Griffdar charges the half-orc wizard with the war pick from the duergar. That finishes the duergar.
The tentacle creature looks up at the situation and puts the brain on legs down, stands up, and floats over to the door which opens up without any force, and then closes behind him.
The Brain runs over to the man on the ground and attempts to finish off the man on the floor by first slashing with its claws
Attack: 17 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
It manages to knock the man out, and then attempts to take the place of his brain.
Intellect Devourer Int check: 6 Unconscious victim: 6
The red-haired man's eyes awaken as you see the brain on legs disappear.
(OOC: As Briga was intending to hit the half-orc, and the tentacled-creature has left the room, all that is left is the red-haired man who matches the description of Floon Blagmaar, who is now occupied by an intellect devourer
"NO!" Griff unsure if his actions will work he bends down to Floon and uses Lay on Hands and expends all of his healing power (5).
Your blessed touch can heal wounds. You have a pool of healing power that replenishes when you take a long rest. With that pool, you can restore a total number of hit points equal to your paladin level × 5.
As an action, you can touch a creature and draw power from the pool to restore a number of hit points to that creature, up to the maximum amount remaining in your pool.
Alternatively, you can expend 5 hit points from your pool of healing to cure the target of one disease or neutralize one poison affecting it. You can cure multiple diseases and neutralize multiple poisons with a single use of Lay on Hands, expending hit points separately for each one.
This feature has no effect on undead and constructs.

OOC: Based on what occurred prior to her turn, Briga would end her rage as a bonus action, and take the Dodge action and remain in the same square while she tries to reassess the situation.
"Uh, guys, I think the brain thing is in Floon! What do we do? The last head exploded with one of those things in it! We've been sent to save this guy, I don't want to kill him. Is he dead already? What should I do?!"
"Ok, Griff, we're cool, still frosty," Briga says, hyperventilating. "You can fix him with your Bahamut powers. He'll be fine. Or we'll take him to a temple. He'll be fine. We're not going to see this guy's head explode after we did all this searching for him. He's going to be fine." Briga does not sound fine.
"Let's be taking Floon and be getting out of here before any of those things come back," he yells hysterically, while heading for the stairs where he will open the hood on his lantern fully so that everyone can see the way.
As his bonus action, he shouts, "Pray to ye god for divine guidance, Griffdar," also giving the paladin a Bardic Inspiration die to be used sometime in the next ten minutes.
He will then hold his action with his loaded crossbow ready to be fired at the first enemy that appears.
