“That was quite a move, Hawk! Leaping from the second story. I’ll have to remember that one, although for me it would be twice the distance. 😂 Oh, and if that water doesn’t quench your thirst, I found something a little stronger that might. That is, if you think a nice smoky flavored dwarven whisky would suit you.”
He then looks at Zook: Thanks buddy, I'm sure you'd do great if you try it! It was a lot of fun, I felt very alive while flying down!
Hawk then snuffs the drink Zook offers him, and makes a recoils in distaste, he doesn't say a word but simply refuses with a shake of his head.
He thinks to himself: Oh Cat Lord, why have you sent me here and not given me the strength to undergo such a task, have I wronged you in any way? I will do my best from now on to make you proud and fulfill my destiny. I hope you will see me as a worthy disciple one day...
He then looks at Zook: Thanks buddy, I'm sure you'd do great if you try it! It was a lot of fun, I felt very alive while flying down!
"I can imagine. I've always wondered what it would be like to soar above the ground like the birds and dragons do. It sounds as if, during your very brief flight, you experienced a special moment of enlightenment. Perhaps the secret to achieving the ultimate awareness involves the act of flight. Obviously, being so far above the ground, like Forge's owl, affords you much more awareness of your surroundings, and the freedom to travel anywhere, not being limited to staying on the ground... but then again, does the ability to fly actually give you a different perspective on life compared to creatures who are limited to walking and running on the ground? Hmmm... Next time I have the opportunity, perhaps I should ask some little birds more about what it's like to fly and if see how that affects how they view life..."
What started as a response to Hawk has turned into a rambling stream of consciousness and muttering to himself... Eventually he snaps out of it.
"Oh! Er... I'm... I'm glad you're ok. At any rate, now that we have subdued this green fellow, what is our next course of action? And should we go up and investigate what's going on upstairs with Mandaway and Bert?"
Apologies, should have parsed out the two rolls (I wasn't sure if you needed one or two for that): dex check with thieves tools proficiency bonus 13
"Hawk you should take a rest if you need! Someone else can handle the goblin," Bert says down to him, voice muffled by a spare lockpick held in the side of his mouth, focus on the chest. He looks back up at Bear-Mandaway, who I'm assuming is still standing there pretending to be a very chill bear. "Can you hold this for a second, Mr. Bear? I've almost got this open. Also who were you talking to back there? Anyone interesting?" He's very, very focused on the thrill of finding out what's in the chest. Maps are amazing, but sneaking around and finding out what's inside locked chests? So much fun.
Hawk sits down at a table in the Inn and tries to get his focus back to his surroundings. A few deep breaths and more sips of water helps him come back to his senses, but he does feel like he took quite a beating.
(OOC: I already used my Hit Die during the last rest, so no recovery here, doesn't matter how long we rest.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(If this is a skill check for which Bert can pause and try again, he'd like to do so: 8. If not I totally understand.)
If it opens, he'll open it and show Mandaway what's inside. If it doesn't, he'll set down the chest and say, "I'm sorry, what? Kella? We have a new friend? This is a person? How did Kella survive and how long have they been sitting here with the goblins?"
I will let you roll again and count it as Mandaway helping you (even though normally you wouldn't be able to get help to pick locks. But as that was a natural 20 I thought I would allow you a second chance).
The chest contains a suit of chain mail sized for a dwarf, a dwarven helm, a leather bag that holds 45 gp and two 100 gp gemstones, and a potion of heroism.
(If this is a skill check for which Bert can pause and try again, he'd like to do so: 26.
Mandaway peered into the chest, " Shiny."
" Uh, yes. She is a person, she has the loveliest pet snake. Um....she's a monk....not sure where from. I think she mostly hid after the giants attacked.""
Bert starts to pocket the gold and gems, pauses, looks up at Mandaway, smiles, then says quietly, "well look what we found! Seems the owner's not here anymore, and if they're gone, this would just go to waste. We'll have to share this with everyone else, won't we. I suppose it'll make Hawk feel better."
He offers Mandaway whatever he wants, and then takes the rest, sheepishly. He starts walking toward the room with Kella, after calling down to Hawk that they found some things that might cheer him up. To Mandaway, he says:
"You're not... you're not going to wear that bearskin for the rest of the trip are you?"
(OOC: also, thanks Swift! It was a shot in the dark to see if Bert could do it, and the nat 20 was... unexpected!)
Forge will walk back inside and head to the room where the only survivor they've come across happens to be waiting out. "Excuse me ma'am but do you happen to know where any of the other townsfolk are? You are the only living person side from the goblins that we've happened upon so far since entering the city?"
(it was a hard lock with a DC20. Someone paid good money for it)
Forge you walk in to the room and see Kella tucking a piece of paper back into her pocket. "I don't know I'm afraid. I was hit by a large chunk of the roof when it broke and was knocked out. When I came to it was quiet."
Having gone upstairs to see what the others are doing, Zook learns of the survivor Kella and hears Mandaway say that she's a traveling monk.
"Another monk, you say...? I should very much like to speak with her! Poor thing, having been caught here when the boulders started flying through the roof. What an awful experience to endure."
Assuming that he finds out which room she is in, he'll cautiously enter, while speaking in his gently friendly gnome voice.
"Hello... Begging your pardon, but I am told that you are a traveling monk. I too am a person of monastic life, who has also taken to traveling since leaving my temple recently. May I come in and visit with you? Where did you study and what brought you to this village? Also, is there anything we can do to help you? I have some nice dwarven whisky, if you would like a sip.”
He offers Mandaway whatever he wants, and then takes the rest, sheepishly. He starts walking toward the room with Kella, after calling down to Hawk that they found some things that might cheer him up.
Good news? What is going on up there? I came down too fast to really look around! Says Hawk, followed by a little laugh.
Bert walks in behind Forge and isn't sure what he saw her do but thinks it looked sneaky. He thinks that he's the sneaky one around here and is a bit skeptical.
"So what were you doing in town, Kella? Have you noticed anything missing in the town square?"
(OOC: seems like, if Bert can understand what the potion is, that Hawk could really use the potion of heroism if we encounter some trouble again. And maybe Zook could use the armor? Or Krakkan the helm? And though Bert's got sticky fingers, he realizes you all have helped protect him so he plans on splitting up the gold [think that's 7.5 gold per person] and gems evenly. Probably. ;) )
"Hmmm interesting, I'm sorry to hear that you were wounded in the attack but you survived so we can count that as a win. We've taken out a good amount of the goblins in the town and I have a friend of mine keeping an eye out for additional goblins that might pose a threat to us. You can rest easy for a while your no longer alone in this."
(Gems can't be split up unless you sell them. And the helm offers no in-game benefit. RAW, potions can be identified by having a drop to work out the effects so you would know)
As Zook walks in, "Hello. Of course, you may come in. I came to the village to pass through. My monastery was in the middle of nowhere. It is hard to explain where. I haven't been back in a while now though. And you can keep the whisky"
Kella looks nervous at so many people entering, especially seeing as the floor is damaged and she doesn't know how much weight it can now hold (though it seems to be managing all of you). "The square? It is hard to miss the big hole from that weird stone that was there when I arrived. You can see the hole from my window" (She gestures to the window to show you.) "Though if heading that way, mind the hole. (Turns to Forge) And thank you and your friend."
Mandaway trumped downstairs with his new bear skin cloak and sat on the step, he called up through the hole, " So what was this ' Nightstone' anyway?", he said pointing out the door.

Hawk calls up to Bert: Doing great! Just a few scratches.. I might need a rest.. why is everything so blurry? Is there fog coming our way?

This lock is the most complex you have ever come across. You can't quite seem to get it open
After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)
Mandaway chuckled, threw back the bears head, took the pick and stood in the doorway watching Bert work.
" We have a new friend, Kella, shes staying in her room for now."
