Bakreag
Ront seems to think about this for a bit, raising a massive orcish hand to his chin. Thinking clearly doesn't come easily to this brute but he does eventually nod. "Okay. Lift with Ront." Nearby the two wererat gnomes have already managed to squeeze through the gate bars and have taken off at a run - not even bothering to help you escape.
The Gate - EVERYONE
The gate is shut securely. It's one of those gates that you must raise up manually by lifting it up after it has been unlocked. That being said, the iron bars are sturdy and heavy. It would take a lot of effort to lift it up while it was locked. With the guards dead however, now would be the best time to try it. Though as your group is about to attempt to do this, you hear footsteps walking towards the slave pen. Those with a Passive Perception of 13 or higher - or those who actively rolled a 13 or higher - will notice that these footsteps are those of a Drow.
Soon enough, a Male Drow does indeed come into view with their hood up. They look surprised for a brief moment at seeing everyone at the gate, but it is quickly hidden. "During the chaos you will attempt to escape." He says clearly enough for everyone to hear. As he turns towards the gate, you notice he has one of the keys to the Slave Pens in his hand. You would also notice that this is one of the Drow who would come to provide you with the mushroom broth that had become your main source of food during your imprisonment. "Your equipment is in Ilvara's quarters." He points to the spire in the middle of the outpost, just past the waterfall.
He turns the key in the lock of the gate and you hear a loud click. He makes no movement to open it, though lifting the gate will be substantially easier now. "This is the only help you'll receive." His tone indicates there is no room for argument as he turns and walks away. Above your heads, the battle with the demons that have invaded the outpost rages. Crossbow bolts fly, screams of terror and the horrible shrieking of the Vrocks fill the air.
Pretty soon, the demons will be gone and the outpost will be back on alert for you. Time is short. Ront - having agreed to help at least for the moment, goes to start lifting the gate. You see it start to budge, but it's a bit heavy for the orc to lift alone.
A STRENGTH CHECK OF 25 (Cumulative - everyone's rolls count towards the total) IS REQUIRED TO OPEN THE GATE.
Nam runs to the gate and tries to help. He knows his strength is nothing more then a young teen, he tries anyway. He heard the drow say that their equipment was beyond the falls and that was all he needed to hear strength.17

BAKREAG - THE ESCAPE [SLAVE PENS]
As the behemoth of a gate was being lifted, Bakreag motioned for the considerably more fragile Bell to stand back - before he also added his strength to it. Lifting as hard as a little Dwarf could, with the help of Ront and Lynistra, Bakreag attempts to open the gate for the rest of his now comrades. "Gates comin' up laddies!"
12 - Strength Check (couldn't get the tool tip)
Once the gate has been opened, Bakreag will simply follow closely behind Lynistra towards the tower in the hope of reclaiming their equipment. He'll also keen his eyes to attempt and make out more of the area through the darkness, holding his newly "repurposed" short sword at the ready.
Eggbert grabs the remaining short sword, feeling more secure with a weapon in hand. Not much more secure, but still better than being unarmed when surrounded by threats. Hearing the sounds of a drow walking towards them, Eggbertturns to face the potential attacker, short sword between himself and them. Although the drow doesn't appear to be a threat, Eggbert remains tense all the same, unsure of the drow's true intentions.
Although Bell was practically blind, she could at least listen. She was a very observant little bird and when it came to helping with the gate, her feathers tuffed up (at an attempt to look tough and burly), kept close to Bezel and Bakreag and with all her tiny bird might gave it all she got to assist in opening the door!
Strength Check: 14

Lucina keeps her guard up as the others work on the gate, once it is open she moves along with them quickly. Holding onto the crossbow and ready to shoot at any one who would dare get in the way of their escape. She keeps at the rear of the group, constantly looking around.
It takes the combined strength of most of the group pulling up against the gate to get it to lift out of the ground. The moment the gate slides up just enough for Ront to be able to crawl through he ducks underneath it while laughing. "Haha! Stupid dwarves! Ront escape now!" The gate becomes that much heavier but luckily it seems as if Ront was only contributing just enough to seem like he was helping without actually doing it. The gate finally slides up fully, letting everyone out of the Slave Pens at their leisure.
You find yourselves at the top of a cavern. It seems the Drow made this outpost with safety in mind. You notice a railing has been constructed across the edge, but it leads to a long drop into a pool of water. To your left leads stairs up towards the Waterfall that the drow had mentioned before. Ront has taken off running in that direction though only people with DARKVISION Can see the orc rapidly becoming a speck I'm the distance. Curiously, he doed not seem to be trying to reclaim his weapons.
To the right is a stairway that leads down. It only goes to one room that is impossible to see inside from your current angle. You do know that on your work details you have never been down there. Those whose perception rolls beat 17 can hear the soft breathing of several creatures inside that room.
Eggbert
Eggbert notices that the drow that unlocked the gate is definitely not being altruistic by releasing your group. You recall that this drow always provided the food reluctantly, as if he was being forced to do so rather than actually caring for your health. The drow probably released you for some self serving reasons.
((Wont let me change color. Stupid phone. Bell since you stated you're actively listening you dont need to roll on this one and can take that PP of 21 to know the above info.))

Perception 5
Once outside the gate, Nam hears the breathing of something in the room down the stairs. “Hey, there’s something down there. It might be more slaves. Anyone have a way to break or unlock the door otherwise we need to keep moving.” He feels bad if they leave whatever down there but survival is at hand and Nam knows he will have no chance if he doesn’t get his stuff back.
Lynistra starts up the left stairway until mention of the lower chamber is mentioned, "Why do you think they call this hellhole Underdark? Going down isn't usually how people escape underground. Unless the things down there have more weapons, I'd suggest we push upward."

The bronze hued tiefling smiles in his best approximation of reassurement at the strange bird boy's (he's pretty certain it's a boy now) voice and words. Clutching the feathered hand tightly for mutual comfort, Bezel follows the stronger more assertive members of their escape party, being sure to keep a decent amount of distance between them. Something about that Orc bothered him, and the twice enslaved youth is not unhappy to see him leave.
Getting through the gate, the quietly terrified seems to want only to escape this horrible place. Bezel looks up the stairs, remembering the words of the drow and wondering who this Ilvara might be. The leader of this drow outpost maybe? If so Bezel thought, then she was likely no one to be trifled with lightly.
However, at Nam's words about someone below though, the scared tiefling pauses and looking around, particularly at Bell, the now more seemingly composed horned young man mutters fearfully as he looks down the stair,'
"We should... we should at least check. If it was one of us... I... I will go look... Alone if need be. You wait here though, or go with the others if they leave, bird friend."
Recalling a powerful soothing voice heard in the moonlight to calm his frayed nerves, Bezel will take a few quiet and watchful steps down towards the door, not really expecting anyone to come with him, more expecting the whole group to run off up the stairs. As he edges towards the dark door below, the tiefling just hopes that his new bird friend makes it out.
Raising one suddenly white/black flame shrouded hand before him, the frail nascient warlock whispers ahead to the door with mounting trepidation,'

For a brief, tense moment, you believe you had awoken them. The Quaggoth were allied with the Drow of this outpost - and would not hesitate to throw you back into your pen.
Just beyond the Quaggoth den you can hear the voices of two other Drow speaking to each other. It's not loud, but you can tell they sound indecisive about something. Further down is the pools where you would normally dump the waste from your chamberpots.

You do know from your time in captivity, however, that the building across the bridge is a Guard Tower. Inside is likely weapons, armor, and supplies.
