Rand moves over to the south door and stands guard while the others finish up. (OOC: I think that you will have to spend two short rests on the staff... one to learn the staff's properties and one to attune - is that right, Rhanloi? If that is true, we might should keep going, unless you identify it).
(Zercious is correct - it would take two hours to identify the properties of the staff and then to attune to it. So your characters know that the staff is more than it seems and likely has magical properties, but not what they are yet. =) I will continue to assume that Rand is first through a door unless you tell me otherwise. I will also use the passive perception score of whoever opens a door or goes first to detect traps on doors and hallways.)
Opening the southern door in the wizard's workshop, Rand sees another door directly across from him in a 5' wide passage leading east. In this passage, about 10' away, are steps leading up to the cavernous room where you encountered the eye-monster.

“Sure I can assist you tell me what to keep an eye out for and I’ll follow your lead”and after a short rundown on possible traps Valefor will look around with Salty Joe making sure the way is clear while moving as stealth as possible.

Rand tries to listen at the next door (perception: 12), but has never been especially good at that, so, he motions toward the door and puts a hand to his ear, hoping one of his more keen-eared companions might give it a listen.
When you press your ear against the door, each of you hear a mysterious rattling sound, followed by shouts and groans and a sudden gabble of voices, with the occassional sound of metal , or coins, clinking together. This pattern repeats in irregular intervals.
"I was thinking it sounded like a poker game. Anyway, I've got an idea. Money might give us the distraction we need to gain the upper hand (pun intended)."Rand takes a few steps back so as not to make any noise, pulls out a pouch and a coin purse. He puts 25 copper pennies in the pouch, enough to give it some heft. "Ok, so if we open the door and see a bunch of Redbrands, here's what I'm thinking: We drape our red cloaks around our shoulders to make it blatantly obvious that we are wearing them while hiding the fact that our weapons are ready. Then, We opens the door and stride confidently in. I'll say something like, "Hey, We're the new gang from the Black Spider. Glasstaff told us to come in here to let you know that we will take over the town tomorrow at dawn. He also sent some extra coin for your trouble. So relax and have fun tonight, but no hangovers for the morning, got it? " Then I plunk the coin down on a table, and while all their eyes are drawn to the purse, we strike. What do you think?"
“Sounds good to me but if you want I can make myself look like one of the red brands we kill in the bunks near the cistern. I made sure to study his face just in case we needed to blend in I can introduce you guys like you said then you step up and try and join in the game while we get comfortable in any chairs in the room?”
"Splendid! Between that and the little trick you did to keep that staff out of reach, I'm glad you've volunteered to join us. I like your plan even better."

(Sounds like an interesting plan! Please write up any specific actions/spells you take before entering the room. I'll take it from there based on the write up so far =)
Valefor looks to the group and the passes his hand over his face making him look like the man he had carefully inspected for just this very reason(cast disguise self looking like the guy who we killed in the cistern that I made sure to look at) then looks to the other for the go ahead before entering.

Penumbra wraps her wings around herself under the cloak giving a chunky androgynous appearance so as not to draw any unwanted attention if she is noticed, she then attempts to disappear amongst her companions in the hope of not being noticed at all.
Stealth check to remain unnoticed/hide behind the group: 26
Rand opens the door into a 25'x25' room, with several worn tables and chairs scattered around. Wooden benches are drawn up against walls decorated with draperies of brown and red, and several ale kegs are propped up and tapped. Four tough-looking human warriors wearing scarlet cloaks are gathered around one of the tables, with large mugs of what looks (and smells) like cheap ale. A stack of coins and trinkets is heaped upon the tabletop between them. You recognize a pair of knucklebone dice and a wooden cup used for the game. It looks like the four are pretty drunk and the game is on the verge of getting ugly!
Valefor, who now looks just like one of the thugs from the front room, introduces the rest of the party as 'the new meat.' Rand steps forward and says, "Hey, We're the new gang from the Black Spider. Glasstaff told us to come in here to let you know that we will take over the town tomorrow at dawn. He also sent some extra coin for your trouble. So relax and have fun tonight, but no hangovers for the morning, got it?" He then tosses a pouch on the table with a clink of coins. The redbrands, surprised by your sudden entrance, look between you and the pouch and the loot already on the table. You can almost hear the gears in their heads turning as they try to process this random, and new, information...
(OK, so you have a surprise round on the four redbrands. Do you attack, or continue the ruse? If you do attack, initiative order is: Salty Joe / Valefor / Bankur / Rand / Penumbra (who was hiding in the back trying not to look too man-ish!) If you wish to continue the ruse, then play it out!)
(I'm torn between attacking and letting things play out, but leaning towards letting them play out. It looks like they are drunk enough that we might be able to get away with something we couldn't normally. I'll defer to the group with my vote as to continuing the ruse..)

Valefor figuring the group wanted to get information from the Redbrands moves to find a seat around the outside of the room.(if there is one.)
