"Harrr, this be a good one Salty! Where did yer learn it?" Raldaen claps along with the beat occassionally breaking off to raise his flask to his mouth before picking the line back up and singung along at odd moments. His out of tune voice is barely made up for by the enthusiasm with which he sings along.
As the song draws to a close Raldaen stands, and seeing the other starting to bed down, he says "Time for me to take me flask and go start me a vigil. I'll wake yer when I's is noddin Bankur, so dun go get too comfy in yer roll."
((OOC Raldaen will patrol the camp a little over the hours he is on watch, keeping an eye on his new crew almost as much as into the surroundings. Passive Perception is 15 for the watch))
The night and next day pass rather peacefully, except for that minor incident when Raldaen went to relieve himself on the side of the road and came face to face with a skunk...
(Make a DC 10 Dexterity saving throw. If you fail, you are hit by the spray and spend he next 36 hours smelling like a skunk. (Up to you if it's an improvement or not!) Also, if you are hit make a DC 9 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, you spend the next minute retching in the bushes.)
============================
You’ve spent the last few days following the High Road south from Neverwinter, and you’ve just recently veered east along the Triboar Trail. You’ve encountered no trouble so far, but this territory can be dangerous. Bandits and outlaws have been known to lurk along the trail. You’ve been on the Triboar Trail for about half a day. As you come around a bend, you spot two dead horses sprawled about fifty feet ahead of you, blocking the path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embankment and dense thickets on either side.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As soon as Penumbra becomes aware of the dead horses she climbs onto the back of the wagon, nocks an arrow, and attempts to hide amongst the crates. "Tell me Bankur, are dead horses in the road common out here in the wilderness? Or are we about to earn our pay?" She whispers as she readies herself.
Salty Joe plays a song about the saddest cart of corpses to ever roam the roads. Using silent image he makes the cart look like its filled with corpses and nothing of real value.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rand knocks and arrow and replies to Penumbra, "I think we are about to earn our pay. Watch for arrows! This could be an ambush." Rand scans the brush to both sides of the road looking for any sign of danger that might deserve an arrow launched its way (Perception: 19).
(OOC: That is a natural 20, and may be the best perception out of Rand for a while cause his perception is -1)
Raldaen turns to Bankur ((OoC assuming Bankur is still driving the cart)) and keeping to hushed tones says "Keep the cart moving forward at a slow roll. It can at least give us cover rather then being open targets."
Raldaen readies his crossbow, and moves along the side of the wagon, scanning the treeline for activity on his side of the cart. "Anyone local know much about this trail?"
((OOC - I'm on the right hand side of the cart, near the driver's seat keeping close to the side for cover from the far side treeline))
"Tell me Bankur, are dead horses in the road common out here in the wilderness? Or are we about to earn our pay?"
As the horses appear around the bend, Tarin narrows his eyes and points down the trail. With a powerful push of his hooked talons, Cahoots lifts off Tarin's shoulder and glides forward, scanning the trees and wheeling around the horses in slow, lazy circles about 30 feet above the forest floor, away from the horses.
(OOC: Cahoots flies away from the road, amongst the eaves and underbrush, taking care to avoid the horses themselves, and looking and listening for anything out of place. {Perception check: 23}.)
"Not one, but two dead horses? In the middle of the road, and with bellies full of arrows? I certainly hope this isn't an example of the local hospitality." He lifts a finger, ready for anything, and scans the treeline carefully.
(OOC: Tarin readies an action to cast Fire Bolt at any creature that appears if they menace the party {ranged spell attack roll: 6, 120 feet; damage: 5 fire damage}. He also peers down the path to see if he can spot anything. {Perception check: 14}.)

(OOC: Grrr...D&D Beyond having tech issues and I can't see your character sheets. Everyone please roll initiative. Going forward, I will do a mass roll for everyone in a spoiler so that we don't waste post time doing this. Raldean, give me a Perception check. Bankur, Penumbra and Salty Joe, what is your Passive Perception? For Penumbra, the cart is packed well, so you can't hide behind anything...)
With the cart stopped 50 feet away, and everyone on the cart except Raldean (probably because of the skunk yesterday...) scanning the trees on either side, things happen...
(OOC: I normally don't get to post this often each day - but I'm on a business trip so have time in the morning to look at the board! =)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tarin readies himself, the tension in the air reaching palpable heights.
(OOC: {Initiative5}).
(OOC: Looks like I can't see my own sheet either at the moment. However, I'm almost positive my initiative is only +1.)
(OOC: I think the dice roller might be broken for me too? Are you seeing my rolls in the last few posts?) (Never mind, looks good now, and I can see my character sheet again.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bankur, resisting his urge to stop the wagon upon seeing the dead horses, nods tensely at Raldaen and keeps the cart rolling. Speaking quietly to those around him and slowly equipping his shield, Bankur says "This is trouble for sure, and smells like an ambush. Ready yourselves friends."
Finding no place to hide amongst the crates Penumbra will try to blend in with Salty's illusion, if this isint possible she will do her best to look like a laborer riding in the back of the corpse cart.
The cart stops about 40 feet away from the dead horses, with everyone scanning the trees on either side of the road looking for an ambush. You all see the group of four goblins hiding in the trees, two on each side about 30 feet ahead of you. Apparently, they were counting on you going to investigate the dead horses - when you don't they start squawking and thus lose any attempts of ambushing you!
Still, they are mostly blocked by the sturdy pine trees and have their shortbows aimed at you...(OOC: Salty Joe, Bankur, and Raldean - you're up!)
Salty keeps his focus on the Silent Image and causes the illusion to transform into a cloud of opaque purple smoke that covers the whole wagon. He looks to Penumbra says, "Hey sneaky girl! Don't miss,"giving her a Bardic Inspiration.
Any range attacks from inside Salty Joe's illusion now have advantage.
As a bonus action, a creature within 60 ft. that can hear you gains an inspiration die (1d6). For 10 minutes, the creature can add it to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. This can be added after seeing the roll, but before knowing the outcome.
"Bah, wretched creatures! Back to whatever rat infested caves you came from!" Bankur stands up in the wagon and fires his crossbow at whichever goblin seems to be the least hidden.
Attack: 10 Damage: 6
OOC: Hopefully I'm doing this right - after seeing my low to hit roll I'd like to add the Bardic Inspiration die to it: 5
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Raldaen takes a knee and sights the goblin furthest to the right. He takes a breath, releases it, then pulls the trigger.
Attack: 7 Damage: 9 (No advantage as I'm to the side of the wagon)
Raldaen quickly stands, and moves round to the back of the cart, using both it and the cloud as cover from any retaliatory shots. "Well, I hope no-one wanted to negotiate!"
"Harrr, this be a good one Salty! Where did yer learn it?"
