Soar allows herself to be carried into a facsimile of normalcy. She takes a drink, with thanks.
"Tangle had to go a different direction, thank you for asking,"Soar says. "We had a rough time on our task. Very nearly lost Bazavur, and Tangle, for good. For that matter, we almost lost Jalt and myself. We failed at our main task, lost all our assets, all our fancy stuff, and gold. We did scare off the cult hideout with some borrowed weapons, but it was a small consolation. On the way back, we survived another dragon attack, thanks to these two fellows. But we have to report back to the council on what happened, and find out what is next. What has been happening in Waterdeep? Have you heard of any dragon cultists moving around here? We'd really like to not get ambushed here again. What news? Have you noticed anything odd?"
Tobin, Joll nods, not trying to hide his enthusiasm.
Titus, this kobold has strong feelings about the white dragon that he mentioned - perhaps anger, perhaps bitterness. And you can also see that his eyes dart often to Jalt; he cares a great deal about the dragonborn and what he might say.
Soar, the kobold seems taken aback by your words, and not sure what to make of it when you say you were defeated. I... um... it's good you survived. That means you live on to fight another day. In Oyaviggaton, we had to survive day to day. Any kobold who angered... the dragon... might be killed without warning. Sometimes living is a great victory.
In Waterdeep? Oh, many things. We're working at the tavern a lot of the time, and people seem to like us. The owner is kind and happy with our work. We're also training in case we need to fight the Cultists, but we haven't seen any. The price of vegetables is getting quite high in the market. People say it's because the countryside is dangerous and the Cultists are stopping trade, but that's outside the walls, so... he shrugs. Oh, and there was some political thing as well, something about a lord and a lady, but I don't really pay attention to politics.
Soar responds politely, and refrains from mentioning the name of the white dragon that attacked them in Daggerford.
She defers to Jalt on any responses he might have for them. But she does turn to Tobin and Titus and says, "I think we should go to your Lady right away. Unless there's a good reason not to. If she knew enough to send you after us, then she knows what's going on with the Council, the cult, and whatever else is going on in this city. Shall we head to her home?" She looks to Jalt and Bazavur as well.
It is good that you all have made yourselves useful while we were gone Jalt says to Joll Everything she says is true. We have not had the best of times fighting the cult. We have come to regroup and with the aid of Bahamut, we will continue to fight.
Jalt agrees with Soar about going to the Lady's house

A bit nervous about just showing up at her house, especially given her new duties, Tobin suggests, “Perhaps we should send a messenger to Lady Silverhand’s estate and request an audience. I suspect that showing up unannounced may involve a lengthy wait and perhaps other complications.”
Assuming this is acceptable, Tobin will procure a sheet of paper and conure his magic quill. Writing appears rapidly in expert script on the page as Tobin scribes with a practiced hand. Folding it up expertly, he asks, “Joll, are there any messengers nearby?” as he produces a silver coin to go with the note.

Soar looks at Jalt, and nods in thanks. When Tobin talks about using a letter to send a message, she asks Jalt if he knows anyone in Lady Silverhand's orbit well enough from council meetings to send them a message magically and save time.
She speaks quietly, asking for En, and if she gets no response, she goes outside and does the same, trying to find the pixie, and asking them to again park safely up on the roof of the inn to watch for watchers and for ambushers. And if any are found, to come find her inside and warn her.
Joll nods. Arkie is a messenger. A kobold, he adds to clarify. He likes running through the city. He's fast, and can take your message. Joll leaves the room and returns with another kobold who accepts the message and gives a salute. Neither rain nor snow nor guards with pikes nor even more snow shall stop me, sir. And with that, he runs out.
Soar, you leave the room and the tavern, looking around for En. Make a Perception check.
If she gets no response to whispering and can’t find them, she speaks in a normal voice and then a louder voice, before eventually shouting briefly. Just “En.”
Soar, for a moment, there's no response and no sign of En. Then you hear the flutter of wings, and En appears next to you, in response to your shout. "Yes, Soar. I am here. How can I help you?"
(Invisible?) Soar’s expression turns relieved, and her voice drops to almost a whisper. “Thank you. What do you think of the city? The princesses, I think, thought it was noisy and smelly. We won’t stay long, I don’t think. We are waiting for word of when we are meeting Lady Silverhand, and eventually the council. I thought the roof might be easier for you to handle, rather than being cramped inside with those friendly but loud and easily confused kobolds. If you could keep an eye out for anyone who is watching the inn, or creeping up on it, and let me know if you see them, I’d appreciate it. We have been ambushed by the cult before, in this city, near here. I’d like that not to happen. I’d be great if we had a way to communicate over some distance, but you can come find me. Is there anything you need? And do you think you will be staying with me for a while? I lead a dangerous life, as you might have seen. It can be scary, and you have been very helpful. I don’t want you do get hurt for me. Just let me know what you think,”Soar says.
En was invisible, but 'de-cloaks' in front of you.
It's a lot, En replies with a mixture of excitement and a little trepidation. It's all great - so much to see - but it's a lot at one time. I think I get a bit too excited. Maybe the roof is a good idea. I can look at everything from a distance then pick things I want to... explore. I haven't seen any cultists, but I will look for them. I don't need anything, and I won't get hurt, I think. Most folk can't see me anyway, and, well, if I show myself, I'll do it somewhere near you so you can help if it goes wrong. Which it won't. Don't worry.
En will flutter up towards the roof as requested, turning invisible again as they do so.
After some time Arkie the Messenger Kobold returns with a message for Tobin (which I will send as a direct message).
Smiling and giving Arkie 2 more silver, Tobin reads the letter and says, “Looks like my friends and I have dinner plans tonight with Lady Silverhand at her abode. We will need to leave in about one hour to arrive on time. Could you additionally secure us a carriage ride for that time?”
”Joll, You are welcome to join me in my library in the meantime should you wish—I have my formal clothing packed there anyway that I need to change into before we go,” he adds.
To the rest of his adventuring companions, he asks, “Shall we all go, then? Dinner at Lady Silverhand’s house?” He shows them the letter if they are interested.
Letter:
Master Tobin, I am pleased to learn that you have returned safely. I would be glad to welcome you and your companions for dinner tonight at my home; I wish to hear your news, and share some of my own. I will expect you after sundown.
Soar listens to En and is glad to know that they are adaptable and copacetic with being in the city. She nods as they move back to the roof and wishes them well, still unsure why exactly they arrived and what the future will bring. But she is grateful they showed up and offered to help to bring Tangle back and to help Soar fly to the dragon during the fight.
She listens to Tobin, eyes widening a bit. “It is good to get a reply so quickly and with so much welcoming. But… formal wear? I am literally wearing all the vestments I possess, and these are borrowed from the elves of Altand, who scrounged them from a orcish raiding party. The Lady will just have to deal with it. Thank you for extending the invitation, Tobin. I will be polite.”
She goes to Jalt to check in while they wait for transportation to dinner. She asks how he is doing and what he’d like to do here.“What’s our play? With Silverhand I am hoping to learn more of what’s going on and maybe find a way to get back into things. What’s next. If we are even able to rejoin the fight. Honestly part of me wanted to go with Tangle. Walk off the job. But more of me couldn’t do that even if that was my only option. And I don’t think it’s an option. The cult may be trying to destroy the world but we have messed with their plans so much that I think they will hunt us to other planes to take revenge, or punish us. We are stuck with this whether we want to keep going or not. That being the case, we need to get strong again. And stronger than we were. So we don’t fail again. If Lady Silverhand can help us with that, I’m willing to put up with whatever she throws at us. You?”
Excusing himself to get ready, Tobin finds a private room where he can open his Scriptorium and get to his city formal clothes—basically nicer scholars’ robes without ink stains. He offers Joll the opportunity to look through the library should he wish. Additionally, he would be willing to part with his copy of Volo’s Guide to Waterdeep should the kobold be kind enough to supply (or at least rent) appropriate dinner clothing for the rest of the party.
Spending the rest of the hour washing and changing, Tobin is ready to go when the carriage arrives.

Tobin, Joll declines - he looks excited at the prospect of a vast library to explore, but another kobold calls him away for help. You get the sense that he's a very busy kobold and that the others took to him for leadership.
One of the other kobold will take some measurements and rush off to try to rent you some clothes. Let me (and the kobold) know if you want a particular style or colour, though there's no guarantee you'll get exactly what you order.
Tobin has the clothes he needs, but suggests the others get cleaned up and get presentable clothes if needed (get your own measurements). He will contribute some gold for the purpose, but he doesn’t have enough to buy everyone new clothes.

Soar has never been one for fancy clothes. She does think about where Silverhand’s house is and where they are and tries to consider what public gardens with wildflowers she could visit before the meeting to refresh the flowers she’d decorated her armor with on the trek to Waterdeep, as she does always. “I’d hope the Lady can handle some practical armor. It will help to illustrate our situation. What can you tell me about Lady Silverhand?”
If there is time for this before sundown, Soar will go to the church of Kelemvor’s chapterhouse, where she was essentially raised. She wants to check in with her mentor and give her the recent news, also seeking advice of whether she is really cut out for this life. She’s got the closest thing to a crisis of faith as she’s ever had so that’s where she wants to go. But it can be tomorrow as well.
"She knows you are adventurers, and I'm sure armor and weapons will be expected, though there may be some restrictions about weapons in her presence. No sense trying to hide what we are, but we are going to dinner, not war, so perhaps just wear clean and serviceable clothing and consider leaving the heaviest of armors behind for ease of dining," says Tobin, shrugging a bit as he keeps much more to the libraries than the dining rooms of city notables.

Walking away from this fight is not an option at this pointJalt replies to Soar We were spared and we survived to fight another day even with the setbacks we've encountered. Hopefully Lady Silverhand will have some more information for us. Our fight isn't over yet, Soar. So we really need to be careful about how we handle this situation. We should have earned enough favor with the council to get more answers out of them. But I find that politics are steering the conversations.

Soar nods at Tobin’s sane suggestion, but she keeps her armor on. Even though she has almost grown up in this city, she is expecting a fight, even a dragon to burst into view.
She listens intently to Jalt’s reply. And she pauses after he finishes speaking, still, staring at her companion’s face intently, but also seemingly through him. Then she nods, and turns to sit next to him, facing the way he is, looking in his direction. They have been through a lot together. She pats the back of his hand with hers, holding it for a second, and then letting go. It’s a gesture her grandfather used when he wanted to let her know, as a child, that he approved and agreed with whatever she had said or done, and comfort and familiarity allowed for a silent response that carried more meaning than words could.
In this way she waits for the time to go to dinner.
