So some of you enter and sit, and at least one of you does not. :)
When at least two of you have taken a seat, the man waves his hand. In one area of the impressive rock garden, there's a shimmer and it seems an illusion is dispelled. You see now a small pit of charcoals, and resting within it a large iron tea kettle; the kettle appears to have the shape of a face upon it. The man pours a jug of water into the kettle and places some leaves within, all the while paying you no attention. He bows to the kettle, and then sits back down in a meditative pose.
Settling himself in to wait, Tobin pulls out his tome and starts quietly flipping through pages (planning on using Arcane Recovery if we get a short rest).
He also looks for any telltale signs of other magics about…

Tobin, you notice that the face on the kettle resembles a dao, a powerful elemental creature from the Plane of Earth. (You do not get a short rest at this point)
”Interesting artwork on the kettle. I wonder what significance a powerful genie of elemental earth has for brewing tea?” muses Tobin as he looks up from his study.
He goes back to his studies, though now he is sketching the kettle into his journal, using his magic quill to make a colorful representation.
Tobin, the man smiles at you and nods, and then his body sinks into the ground; he disappears from you, and at the same moment, large slabs of rock appear around the perimeter of the pagoda, surrounding those within.
Varan, you notice that the steam now coming from the kettle doesn't have a very pleasant smell.
Everyone roll initiative please.
As I understand it, Tobin, Soar, Varan and Aiwin are inside the pagoda, and Bazavur is outside, is this correct?
Four of you are trapped within the pagoda, walls of stone blocking you from escape. The man has disappeared (the yellow circle on the map marks the spot he sank into). There is foul-smelling steam filling the air - it does not appear to be harming you, at least not yet.
Without seeing anything that needs to be hit and without a clear route to his companions Bazavur calls out to them, “Everyone all right in there.” as he wrings his hands on the haft of his glaive. Clear that something is happening though unsure what to do about it
(not sure what to do with my turn without a clear ‘enemy’ to fight. So I guess I’ll take the dodge action. Bonus action: second wind. Rolled 6(1d10)+1 for a total of 7 hp recovered.)
Scanning his environment, Tobin tries to understand what is going on. Was that a Wall of Stone spell? Are they about to fight a Dao? Is the roof of the pagoda simple wood or thatch and much easier to break through than the stone?
Arcana: 25
Investigation: 21
(For Action, considering dispelling wall of stone if it is that spell, or using Gust to clear the air if not…will depend on result of investigation)

Tobin, with an Arcana roll of 25 you would definitely recognise this as a Wall of Stone, and you are familiar with its features, though you cannot cast it yourself I believe. You know that the wall could possibly be dispelled, though it could become permanent if left too long.
Soar, as you get closer, you notice that much of the floor of the pagoda is a beautiful rock garden; nothing about it seems dangerous though.
With an Insight of 22, I would say that the man is fully self-controlled rather than relaxed and calm as such.
Bazavur does not enter. But gets as close as he can without doing so.
Varan follows behind Tobin.
Be excellent to each other, and roll for initiative dudes!

Not sure what to make of this, Bazavur stands at the ready, feeling uneasy about the whole situation.

Aiwin just stays back waiting to see what happens.

As soon as the man disappears, and she recovers, she kicks the kettle off the coals. (sadly going last in initiative)

Bazavur is up, outside the pagoda.

Bazavur dodges. You all hear his shouted words.

Tobin and Varan are up.
