(Ugh, imagine getting mind-controlled off of the cliff though. That would be lights out, no pun intended!)
I suppose if we were spotted by anyone in these buildings you speak of that would be the end. Is there any good way to see if they are inhabited? Perhaps Rawk you could take a look, or perhaps Tempest could be a tiny spider?”

"I suppose I could take a quick peak if the others approve. I also don't like the idea of staying here but I do agree with the logic of resting for the night soon. I don't know if we'll be able to fight effectively as damaged and tired as we are, as well as how dark it's getting." Rawk chirps.
"I understand. I think we all need some rest before we face whatever lies ahead. I'm fine with continuing on but scouting ahead is important. Just be careful Rawk." Tempest replies.
(Come to think of it, we probably couldn’t safely light a fire on top of the island. If we do overnight, perhaps this is the safest place to do if, cliffs or not. Light seems more important! But scouting ahead now seems good. Maybe they could see the light from here?)
Ellis was thinking about what to do, listening to the others. "I think resting for the night might be the best idea. We have no idea what is up there and with how it's late, it would be too dangerous to face whatever it is right now in the dark." he also said to everyone else.
“I think I agree with you, Ellis. Perhaps the last thing we do tonight can be to take a look at these buildings up ahead that Rawk speaks of. If they could chance to see our fire we may be in trouble. If there’s no way that could happen, then we’ll go ahead and get some rest.”
Assuming there is anything that he could tie a rope around, Erro will tie a rope around it and his waist so that it could maybe catch him should the shadow creature tempt him off of the ledge. Perhaps Shape Earth could create places to tie off the rope.
Although , do we have any firewood with us? I should think not.
((apologies for lack of reply, ended up having a very busy weekend!))
Rawk cautiously advances a little further up the hill, keeping as low to the ground as possible while flying effortlessly over it. As she gets higher, and the rest of the party begins to fade into the distance she is able to peer ahead through the gloom. Eventually, she is able to get round enough to see the peak of the hills, perhaps a a bit more than half a mile away. She knows that the sacred grove lies near there, hidden by the crest ridge of the hill. She can just make out the old building complex near the summit, once home to those that tended the grove. She can see no flicker of light from there, even with the obscurity of the shadows in the fast-fading light. As she stops and watches, she almost convinces herself the buildings are deserted. But, just as she is about to turn back she spies movement, on the edge of what she can perceive, as if a darker shadow winds its way around the building, the word 'slithering' springs to mind. However, it is to far, and to dim to make out any more.
As she winds her way back, it gets harder to see and it occurs to her that provided the campfire is small and concealed, the perpetual shadow would make it hard to spot it - and there is no direct line of sight from the buildings to where they are.
Rawk will return to the group and convey everything she saw. Her head busily bobbing as she quickly relays the information in her high pitched chirps. "If we're able to secure ourselves to the cliffside here we will be out of sight. Does anyone have any ideas or extra tent pegs? I'm all out and don't have an easy way to retrieve them." she adds.
"I can try to clear a section for us to rest then use the excess to make supports and a barrier between us and the cliff edge that should also block the light from the fire. Erro Ellis, can you assist me with the larger rocks? I can also give up 8 of my torches for the fire. Although, Rawk, I think you could salvage some wood from the raft for the fire as well." Tempest says and will begin to use Mold Earth with the help or Erro and Ellis to move some of the larger rocks. He'll attempt to cut into the cliff using the larger rocks as supports along the sides and front adding in dirt to make it compact and solid.
Ellis is glad to hear that Erro agrees, waiting for Rawk to see what is up here. He listens to her speak about it when she comes back, shaking his head no at the question of having extra tent pegs. But then he had heard Tempest, nodding back as he would help the others with moving some of the larger rocks even though he isn't that strong.

Survival: 22
Tempest will take the first watch and take extra precautions to keep the fire lit. While keeping watch he'll have a small flame constantly in his hand ready to throw at any danger that may present itself.
Rawk nods in agreement and flies down to the boat. Using her axe she'll slice through the webbing and carry up small bundles of wood. She'll volunteer for second shift of watch and tend to the fire.

Tempest is able to direct you into a small hollow, with a bit of extra shaping feels somewhat concealed and less chance of randomly rolling down the hill. The fire can be made under a slight overhang, further concealing it. You all watch as Erro harnesses himself to a large rock...
Night closes in, and the shadows crowd around oppressively. The atmosphere of this place is wrong in a way that is hard to pin down. Cold, lifeless and hollow. The fire seems to struggle to send out any light, and you can't help but imagine the shadows reaching in to try and snuff it out. Still, as Erro and Rawk drift into sleep,Ellis and Tempest take first watch. It is cooler here than in the forest, though still warm. The shadows block out the sky, and you can see no stars and only a faint haze where the moon is.
The night ticks on....
Towards the end of your watch Tempest can just notice that on the other side of the gorge, which is barely visible, there seems to be a patch of shadow that is moving, purposefully as if searching for something. It lacks form, though there is something snake like in it's movements, though it is hard to see.
For a moment it seems to pause opposite your position, and you wonder for a moment if the faint light of the camp has given you away, but then the shadow moves on and slides into darkness...
((Lucky at last!))
The rest of the watch passes without incident, and Rawk takes over with Erro. The grim darkness bares in, and neither of you are able to make out much in the gloom. There is little sound to, apart from the crashing of the waves down below. In other situations this might be lulling, but here nerves are so tight that no peace is gained from the rhythm.
The night passes without further incident, and the weak sun finally lifts, the shadows reluctantly becoming fainter though still clouding everything around in dim and sinister light.
So, what do you chaps & chapesses want to do next?

Tempest, as you are directing the effort can I have a survival check please (to see how well you do!)
