(Do we get a full movement, action and bonus for surprise round? Do held actions count as reaction or just our action for the surprise round?)
Initiative: 7
If we don't get reactions:
Tempest will (bonus) wildshape into a Brown Bear and attack Liss'ard then use remaining movement to slide under the portcullis and head towards the other guard.
(That’s a good question. I’m sure there’s a previous ruling on this somewhere. Unless that is found, I’m going to say that your held actions will count as your action, unless you want to take another action instead, otherwise it’s really a double surprise round and monster ambushes would be doing the same thing to players, which usually doesn’t happen. So, you’ll get your action, movement, and bonus as normal.)
Ellis had seen Tempest shrug, wondering what they should do next. He now heard Darion talk about trying to take the weaker one out with a powerful sleep or hold on to capture one of them safely and read their mind while interrogating. He was surprised as Darion asked him if that is something he wants to try, taking his lead on that. "I think that it would be best to make sure the weaker one is knocked out with Sleep quickly. Then we can try to capture Liss'ard safely and interrogate him if possible." Ellis had whispered back to Darion before the other got ready. He listened as Darion pretended to call out for food, watching for when the guards would come through. He shivered as Liss'ard had said for them to eat him, how he would do that and joking with the other guard about how he hasn't been eaten yet. Ellis then heard Daner ask about him taking the lead while they do what they need to with their magic, nodding back in agreement. So Ellis kept waiting, hearing as Liss'ard grew angrier and Darion was really pushing him back until Liss'ard apparently had enough. Ellis took a deep breath as he was trying to remain calm, hearing the portcullis going up and then seeing Liss'ard come through alone. This is it! He saw as Tempest transformed into a brown bear, attacking Liss'ard first and then going towards the other guard. If Daner attacks and hurts Liss'ard too, maybe he could be weak enough to be affected by a strong Sleep. "Daner, please attack and hurt Liss'ard as much as you can so we can knock him out. You can do it!" Ellis had said to Daner, giving him words of encouragement as Bardic Inspiration. He then would look at Darion, thinking. "I'll try to put Liss'ard to sleep since he's taking damage. If it doesn't work, then we can try putting the other one to sleep." Ellis quickly said to him before getting ready and casting the spell. Whatever happens, he will then move to the portcullis, going around so Liss'ard can't attack or reach him.

Bonus Action: Bardic Inspiration to Daner (1d6)
Action: (This will be after Daner goes, whether he does attack Liss'ard or not) Ellis will cast Sleep, 2nd Level on Liss'ard and placing it so it only affects Liss'ard. 23
Movement: 30 feet towards the portcullis but moving in such a way that Liss'ard can't reach or attack him

OOC: I deleted the above post as I made an adjustment and every time i touched something it kept coming up saying manipulated results. When I changed my text to reflect the result of the roles, the roles would change again :( figured easiest way was to redo the post, even though it would have been a critical hit.

As Liss'ard stops in surprise, Darion gives him a grim look.
Initiative: 8
Hearing Ellis preparing to cast a sleep spell, he mutters "I'll help weaken him too!"
Darion straightens up, mummers an arcane phrase and clenches his fists tightly for a moment, then opens them with an decisive twist towards Liss'ard. Three shimmering distortions of the air streak out towards Liss'ard
Magic Missile damage on Liss'ard: 11
Darion will move a little away from Liss'ard along the back wall, trying to get in a position where he can see both of the Yuan-ti.
EDIT: If Liss'ard is already down by the time Darion acts (seeing how much damage he took), Darion will move to target the other Yuan-ti
((Damn! You guys really took it to Liss’ard. How poetic. Doing this part from my phone might be hard, post should come later today, but how exciting!))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Liss’ard is subjected to an absolute beating as he is unexpectedly mauled by a bear, wounded deep by an icy axe, and pelted with magic missiles, all in the blink of an eye. Still, his impressive and intimidating form remains upright. Before he can open his wide mouth to yell, his eyes begin to roll back into his head and falls into a snoring heap on the floor (sleep cleared by 1HP!). This is all done so quickly and silently that the other prisoners, though in the same room, have no inkling as to what is going on.
Slizzy, on the other side of the portcullis door, hand on the lever, is stunned as he sees a bear shoot under the portcullis almost as quickly as Liss’ard went under.
(Normal combat starts and Team Adventurers get to move first. Lucky you!)
Note that the guard stationed in the hallway, on the other side of the sacrificial altar room in front of Fenthaza's door, could easily hear you, and if enough of a scene were made, might be able to see you as well.
((All good. If anyone gets lapped, they will get two actions in the next round of combat. If we are posting like crazy and someone gets passed up again, we’ll make them use a basic attack, a cantrip, dodge, or whatever would make most sense for the character at that moment))
The yuan-ti, still holding onto the lever, is caught flat-footed and still has not fully reacted. He will contest with disadvantage: 9
This Yuan-ti is oily and scaly, and despite what Daner thought was a good hold, he just barely squeaks out. Likewise, with snake-like reflexes, it avoids Tempest’s vicious maw. However, it is not so fortunate as to avoid a paw full of claws, and bear-Tempest gets a good swipe in on him. (Normally won’t give flanking, but this guy was surprised and had Daner all up on him!)
Darion watches Liss'ard go down with satisfaction. He maneuvers himself so he can see the battle outside, watching his companions try and grapple the slippery Yuan-ti. He raises his hands to cast sleep, then frowns, realising he could catch his allies with it as they are so close together. "Oh well" he mutters, and dives into the melee. He will attempt to gag / prevent the Yuan-ti from crying out (if a human head holding the mouth closed) and restrain him with Daner.
Strength Athletics check: 17
OOC: sorry for so little posting, have been DMing my home campaign this evening so no chance to post!
Ellis had seen Darion hit Liss'ard with a spell, damaging it before he cast the Sleep spell. He was so relieved as it had worked, Liss'ard now fast asleep. He could see Tempest and Daner try to grab the other guard, unable to do so though. He then thought about using the Sleep spell again but he would get the other two in it as well. So Ellis saw Darion go and gag/restrain the guard with Daner, thinking. He's not a fighter and none of his spells would be useful here. So Ellis decided to run up and use the Help action to assist whoever attacks the guard next so they can defeat him as quickly and as quietly as possible.
Slizzy, surrounded, attempts to cry out for help, but just as he does so, Darion’s hands (this probably wasn’t his first time) wrap around his mouth and throat, muzzling his call. Panicked, he spends his turn attempting to break Darion’s hold so that he can make a call.
Slizzy manages to slither out of Daner’s grip, but is very quickly gagged by Darion. Daner quickly reaches for the manacles at his belt and attempts to use them on the Yuan-ti.
(I don’t see why that can’t be done. I’ll give him an Acrobatics save at disadvantage due to already being restrained by Darion. Shackling his hands or his feet?)
((Interestingly, since you guys are making me work, I read commentary on restraining/grappling last night and apparently you don’t get advantage vs restrained. However, I’m going to rule that restrained [double restrained in this case] plus flanking= advantage on attacks.))
The attacks land soundly against the heavily restrained yuan-ti who cannot even make noise by thrashing against the pain.
However, as he is attacked and as his hands are removed from the lever, it starts to click backwards and the portcullis begins to rapidly close, surely about to make a tremendous noise. Daner and/or Tempest may use their reaction to make a Dexterity saving throw, an Acrobatics check, or an Athletics check to intercept the lever and prevent the portcullis from slamming down, if they wish.
(Do we get a full movement, action and bonus for surprise round? Do held actions count as reaction or just our action for the surprise round?)
