Shae would be blinking up at the sky. She’d rub her eyes and keep staring for a bit while she registers what she just saw.
When Maxine would call her over to review the mushroom, she’d seem like her mind was in the distance where she was looking. Finally she’ll pull away to give Maxine her attention, “I agree it’s worth harvesting for review at a later date. Let’s not worry about testing right now.” She’d place a hand on Maxine’s shoulder. “As you said, we need water.”
Shae, are you going to tell them? She’d look back up to the sky, and finally blurt to the others, “We also have a pair of large flying feathered snakes that just dove into the canopy, likely hunting for prey.” She’d continue a thought out loud, “That would mean there’s sustainable life there... perhaps a water source?”
Shae would look to the Professor, “Would your Gazetteer have any information on these creatures and their habits?”
"More like very terrifying" by now Maxine expected the worst from wild life in this place. But she also waited for a verdict - if only to know what to expect from that new threat.
(any way Shae can help the Professor or try her hand at learning more about these serpents?)
Shae would close her eyes to listen to the jungle while the professor searches his Gazetteer. She’d try to listen for rustling of tiny mammals, or anything intelligent in the area that she may be able to connect with using her beast speech. She’d even listen for the feathered snakes.
This giant relative of the pteranodon has a wingspan exceeding 30 feet. Although it can move on the ground like a quadruped, it is more comfortable in the air.
Shae, you hear some rustling around you, and you get the sense that if you spent some time hunting off the main trail of your party's advance, you might be able to hunt enough game for the entire party.

Shae will open her eyes when she succeeds in sensing possible game off the trail. “We are moving towards a healthy area where we may be able to hunt for some game off the trail. That means a source of water can’t be too far either.”
She’d thank the Professor for what he was able to find in his Gazetteer. “If we happen to come into contact with them, I’ll be honest with you, I’ll most likely try to communicate with them.”
Before moving on, Shae would take the opportunity to review their map and update it with the approximate ‘dead zone’ of the flowering vines they encountered. Once done, she’d be ready to continue forward if Berrus and the others who may be exhausted are good to carry on the next leg of the journey
(My apologies, I don’t remember, did we attempt and/or succeed at identifying/researching the flowering vines?)
Without water there is no point to stay anywhere - exhausted or not, day or night, but party would have to move. At least that was Maxine's thoughts that she shared while collecting "poisonous/medicinal" mushroom off the dead tree.
OOC: Waiting on Berrus and the others who have been less active… Though we might have to go on without them

Harvesting the mushrooms with as much care as possible, the group carried on, forwards to the valley below, in the hopes of finding a new source of water. Exhausted by the day's travels and the confrontation with the aggressive plants in the area, the group doesn't get very far, and decides to bed down in the next clearing they find. With the Professor's help, the area is quickly cleared and level, and thanks to his alarm spell, secure. Sat around the small bonfire, the captain asks all of the group to join her to discuss the situation.
"We have sick and wounded and have run out of water and food. Our nearest land mark is at least three days away, if we keep progressing at the rate that we have.Professor, you have been invaluable with your magic, and thanks to Maxine, we have been able to profit off some of the nasty plants and beasts we find here. Shae, you have continuously helped with the medical side of things, but there too most of our stores are gone. Berrus, your skill has gotten us through several battles alive, and with Zip's scouting and Faekin's cooking, we've been able to keep morale up and ourselves reasonably safe. We need to stay strong now, that our resources are dwindling. We need to -"
With a wet thud, a broadhead arrow burst forth from Thasselandra's shoulder, before she doubles over and collapses. "Get to cover!" Falx shouts, and Brax immediately dives towards the party's stockpile, throwing out any of the weapons stored there.

Maxine Initiative: 18
Maxine was completely exhausted, but listen to Captain intently blushing at undeserved complement. Newly developed instincts lifted her up from the ground before she realised what her eyes just saw - she ducked (or attempted to) behind the firs think that could cover her from the arrows.
OOC: Those rolls are ROUGH, but makes sense that the enemies ambushing you have higher initiative. Still though, a 3 is low :P....

The Professor checks the book for mention of flying snakes.
