The Duke nods at Falaine's request and says, "One of the guards outside will be able to guide you there. If there's nothing else you all need, I'm going to be going to bed. I will see you in the morning."
Once the conversation is finished, the Duke leaves the room and heads to his chambers. He still had to figure out who killed his guards and wizards, but the day had been long enough already.
Falaine wouldn't have any trouble having one of the guards escort her to the Duke's library. "I'll be right outside if you need anything," the guard says once she's settled. What does Falaine look for in the library? [Roll a perception or investigation check]
"Because you are a guest of the Duke, I won't punch you." Tanni snaps at Jay and stomps angrily to her room. A quick nap is exactly what she needs after such a day.

"If you wish to punch me now, feel free." Jay's dull tones speak to Tanni. "I care not. It may mean you have less seething hatred before attempting to rest."

DM:
Just so you know I've got some family matters that cropped up. I might not be able to post most of this week, so feel free to control Jethro if he needs to do stuff and it looks like I'm not going to post, so probably from Wednesday onwards.
"It puts your companion at ease, it will mean we can work together more effectively tomorrow." Jay comments to Paren, seemingly not caring for the gut punch. "For now you complete your resting and preparations. My assumption is I will be detained by the guard master until I am required."
Tanni is flummoxed. She held back a bit, but he should still be groaning from pain. With an irritated frown, she says "At least you can take a punch", turns and stomps angrily to her room.
She closes the door carefully and stands for a moment in the middle of her room before screaming in anger and punching her bed's leg. She then climbs on her bed and lies face down, completely still. "I hate this place", she mumbles to her pillow before letting her exhaustion lull her to sleep.
OOC: such a great moment, I laughed when I read that Jay was completely unharmed and thought how Tanni reacts to that :P
Yeah, weedy spellcaster has got to make themselves look capable of taking hits, so good thing I had 7 THPs before walking into the room.
As for the divine sense, Jay's a human, so up to DM I guess if there's other shenanigans about in the area.
"I rest, just like any other man would, so I will probably retire if I am not needed whilst you also rest." Jay mentions in his bored sounding expression. His dull eyes look over Tanni as she storms off. "It would appear that she is not impressed with her strength, commendable as it is." He turns to go to the guard master, awaiting to see what he is to do next.
As Paren taps into his godly magic, he tries to understand what is going on with this stranger. He can sense...
that Jay has lingering remnants that give off a sense of undead but at the same time something celestial. It's a very odd spectrum that Paren hasn't experienced before except in one instance in a dusty alley. Something about this stranger seems out of balance as if two entities are fighting over him but the stranger doesn't outwardly seem to express much discomfort in this internal battle.
Falaine spends several hours in the library and acquires a rather large stack of books that she begins to read with the aide of the librarian...

Tanni is able to find rest after the strange encounter with Jay...
Her dreams are filled with visions of working on the forge of her own Smithy that she had bought back from that back stabbing jerk. As she works, she can see that she's improved the shop considerably since when she left it. She smiles thinking about the job she performed that got her enough funds and the memories she made with a group of strangers.
Jay is able to find some rest, but...
he feels a lingering sense to return home. He's been gone for too long. What was taking him so long? She was going to be upset with him if he didn't update her.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(So I guess we're off to the following morning?)
Jay will request to be escorted to the chamber to continue the research on the current portal. He has other things he would rather be doing, but they cannot be accomplished until this current goal has been achieved. He is not a master of portals, nor is it his passion. However, he does have some background knowledge on the subject, albeit only slightly more than his companions with him.
Falaine turns to Jay. "You have an aura of familiarity... I feel we will become close companions, even if we don't trust you at the moment."
The Duke nods at Falaine's request and says, "One of the guards outside will be able to guide you there. If there's nothing else you all need, I'm going to be going to bed. I will see you in the morning."

Paren begins a slow walk back to the rooms. "If that's everything I will head to the rooms as well."

Those going to sleep are able to take a long rest that is uninterrupted.
Perception: 27
(I have a character in another campaign with a +11 to perception and Falaine still is more consistently preceptive.)
What is Falaine looking for?
(that's hilarious. My rolls have been garbage lately.)
((Just like how somehow Paren is consistently the worst at religion rolls in this campaign. Still find that hilarious.))

Once Paren wakes from his trance he will try to find their new friend so that they can get to work on the circle.

[Okay, a bit rewinding, to before Tanni stomps to her room:]
Tanni looks at Jay, confused by his offer. She then delivers a heavy jab at Jay's stomach:
Attack: 9 Damage: 4
Jay won't dodge out the way, so auto-hit. He appears unharmed.
Hooray for at-will temporary hit points!
"Well, let's not start off things by killing each other. That doesn't seem smart."

"Do you not need to sleep as well? Paren asks in a curious voice before pinging the newcomer with his Divine Sense.
