"Come along. Follow at a bit of a distance, and just keep an eye out if I manage to get him into an alleyway. We don't want to rouse suspicion." Finan gestures for Paren and any others to follow, moving to intercept the worker.
Straightening his back and assuming a generally stiffer attitude before he reaches the worker, he steps up to the man carrying the crate. "Hold on there. I'm sorry, but I've been told to inspect this crate. Follow me please, let's get out of this bustle so I can have a look."

In the virtue of moving things along, if the man agrees to follow I will want to have the worker move the crate into an (empty?) alleyway, tell him to shove off so I can work, then prise open the crate with a dagger and have a look inside.
The worker leaves the crate with you and returns back to busy street. You're left alone with the crate. You attempt to pry open the crate but there is a large lock keeping it closed.
[OOC: I'm sorry, I've been having trouble keeping track of the action - things have been *really* busy here and I've lost a bit of the thread of where Knok is, can you clue me in Cormusz?]

Knok has progressed through the city with Quentin in the hopes of determining the location of the half orc's goods. Their first stop is the booth that he was supposed have setup before the festival. It has been taken over by a younger man who is selling old junk.
Paren and Finan stand in the alley looking at the locked crate trying to determine how to reveal its contents. With the right tools, Paren thinks that he could pick the lock. Smashing the box open would most likely ruin any artifacts that are held within.
Quentin, Knok, Jonatha, Eira, and Tanni stand near the odd booth watching the merchant and potential customers interact.
Knok tugs on Quentin's robe, saying, "Maybe...maybe you and Knok ask about talking to Gunthar? To apologize for our bad run-in on the road yesterday?" The goblin scrunches up his face, unsure of himself. "Knok not good at...ruses. Knok used to being very direct. Not Us manners are confusing..."

Paren looks about a bit confused. "Don't think I've ever seen someone follow instructions that well before. In that case, give me a couple of minutes. I'm going to go and get something that maybe can let us in. If he asks just say we had the wrong key and I've gone to get the right one." Paren then runs back into the crowd.

So sorry for not posting yesterday, had such a busy day that I completely forgot to even start up my computer.
Tanni looks at Paren with a worried look, but doesn't say anything. When Paren insists he's fine, Tanni just nods and leaves for the junk merchant with others.
Tanni nods at Knok and Quentin as they talk how to approach the merchant, responding with a low voice: "If your hunch is right, Quentin, it might be best for you to take the lead with this one. I'm very skilled when it comes to metalwork and craftmanship, but curses and magic aren't exactly my specialty." Tanni glances at the goods the stall has and frowns. "Looks just a bunch of junk to me, but maybe you can find out more with those flashy eyes of yours. I can tag along and pretend to browse the goods."

Paren returns to the alleyway. "Alright, your turn to stand guard while I use my 'key'." He then moves to the crate and begins using his tools to try and open it.

"That's a good idea, Tanni. Probably better to not take the time with a ritual." Quentin holds the bridge of his nose between his pointer finger and thumb and mutters, "Cigam tceted." His eyes open with the same blue aura from before and he directs his attention to the items in the booth and the elven gentlemen. "Oh, and that may be important to know..."and as Paren is already opening the crate he turns to see if there's anything magical within it.
Finan leans against the building at the entrance to the alleyway, shooing off anyone wanting to go past. He doesn't know what Paren had done in those moments that he was gone, but he trusts the man to get the crate opened. It would be a blessing to find the missing dagger, but any clue as to the whereabouts of the missing items would be a welcome step forward.
Without too much trouble, Paren uses the tools to open the lock. He opens the crate with little fanfare. Inside of the crate are several old pottery bowls and cups. It seems to be consistent with the goods found in the booth.
After finishing your breakfast, the small group returned to their rooms to gather their items due to the strange rules of the inn. Guests must turn their keys back in after breakfast and go through the check-in process for each evening they stay. While in the back hallway by the rooms, Falaine knocked aggressively on a door and began shouting for Paren. The noise caused Ombre, the elven innkeeper, to become upset with Falaine. Paren came to the door and assured Falaine they were safe and that he'd catch up with her later in the day.
Your group arrived in the town square as the morning sun rose over the tops of the buildings. The area was full of people as they enjoyed the festivities. Tanni insists that the reasoning for the tower falling be investigated. Quentin talks with some dwarves working there that are using magic to assist with the recovery project. Quentin finds the marble has been crushed by giant hands that have left dirt marks on the marble.
While in the town square, you notice that the guards have had their armor upgraded by a large margin. They're now wearing full plate crafted by the Hammerstone Smithy which is renowned as one of the greatest smithy's in the region. The guards seem rather uncomfortable in the armor as they're used to wearing lighter pieces.
The Shrine of Shamara is still holding vigils while their acolytes serve bread bowls near the crumbled mess of a facade.
Falaine wishes to talk with the Half Orc that was the center of Quentin's issues yesterday so the group decides to go to the guard barracks. Here you find the guards are also wearing the much sturdier armor. The gnome guard posted there tells the group that the guard captain has healed well and returned to the Shrine for service. She says that the two were taken to Talia for healing and that the half orc didn't survive the night. The healer stabilized him, but he passed away without warning. The guard says that they haven't noticed any signs of similar issues in town since the original event.
The group found the upgraded armor that had been provided by Lord Rynholt to be odd. It was a very large investment for a town that didn't see much actual use for it outside of the one isolated event yesterday. The gnome guard doesn't seem to be too happy with the new armor requirement as it's rather hot and uncomfortable for her.
That's when the group is rejoined by the others that had separated earlier. Everyone is quite happy to see eachother. When everyone has gathered back together, you notice that Taren had been rather quiet since yesterday's events. The weight of the circumstances are surely weighing on him. Finan takes the coin back that he let you look at earlier.
The group finds that there is a very odd guard outside in a nearby alley that is wearing exceptionally fine armor also crafted by the Hammerstone Smithy. The guard is unmoving and unwavering in their duty and they didn't respond to any conversation that the group started with it.
Falaine, for the first time, shifts into the form of a hawk and flies high above the town attempting to finds things of note. When she returns, she tells the group that there is smoke on the horizon to the north and the grove of trees to the east have started to shift into an autumn color.
Finan moves down an alley out of site from the group and returns disguised similarly as the mysterious guard. He moves to the other and asserts that these crates should be moved, but the guard doesn't respond. A small raven walks on the top of one of the crates and seems to give several of the members careful looks. When Finan becomes a bit aggressive, you watch as Finan turns away from the crates and walks briskly back to the group. A sense of confusion is on his face.
Suddenly, Falaine stressed with the thought of fire to the north, shifts into the form of a horse and gallops out the eastern gate. It's unclear when she'll return.
Moving down the street, the group finds that workers have been taking crates from the alley to a strange booth with old bowls and pottery that looks rather mundane and used compared to the booths near it. You notice a tall elf standing near the booth admiring the wares while other patrons are mocking the vendor's goods.
Finan and Paren have stopped a worker and taken their crate into a nearby alley to see what's inside.
(Hey all, sorry for no posting last week. Had about 30 mins of good connection to update and only got to look at the campaign I was running.)
Jonathan will have been following around with the others, still trying to process the events of the prior day. He wanders with the group, idly looking at the spectacle of the festival for the fleeting moments they are around it. Thoughts about what they are doing go through his mind, like that it is probably sensible that the local authority take advantage of the great smiths in their area at this point. Watching Falaine shift into a beast is quite startling, but he has heard stories of skinshifters, albeit never seen one in person. Given they are now looking into a pottery and finery stall, Jonathan would like to see if his upbringing at least told him anything about the quality of such goods.
Jonathan can tell that the items for sale here are much older than everything else being sold here. Recalling some of the heirlooms back home, these items seem even older.
Slipping between the legs of the taller Not Us's gathered around the merchant's booth, Knok gradually approaches the wares and the vendor selling them, looking carefully for any sign, any lead, any bit of information that will lead him closer to preventing an outbreak of the evil divine influence that so briefly touched him the day before.
