Mal flies back and grabs the small leather satchel filled with bearings. It weighs roughly half a pound. She flies back across to the pedestal with the cube. She rubs her five o'clock shadow while visually judging the weight of the cube with intensity, waving side to side slightly. Her pouch she weighs in one hand, considering perhaps poking a hand in to let some of the bearing drop through her fingers, but then she shakes off the option. Instead, with the pouch of ball bearings in one hand, resting near the cube, and the other hand ready to snatch the cube, everyone holds their breath. Quick as lightning she swaps the bag for the cube. For a moment nothing happens.
Then another moment.
Then another moment.
Nope, nothing is happening. She flies back over, cube in hand and the group strolls casually from the shrine.
"Well, that was easy," says Boris, as you move away to one side away from the pool and leave off for the next shrine. You circle around the walled compound and search some nearby homes on your way. You are now in the southern end of the city proper, and the glowing and smoke from the lava can be smelled. Several tiers of plateaus with a street wide stairway the winds up them leads from the city. You see what appears to be the ruins of the cities entrance up above on the highest level. You leave that and head across the street to the next shrine.
Across the street, a ruined shrine stands at the heart of this walled compound. Tall monoliths flank the entrance, decorated with images of a jaguar with six snakes sprouting from its shoulders. A stone door is set into the shrine beyond. In the yard of the compound you see the bodies of two dead Kamadans. They appear to have been killed quite recently. Beyond the yard, the two monoliths are draped in vines, many of which have been pushed away. Upon each one are carved the same carved words, the Orvex translates. "Shagambi teaches us to fight evil with honor." Reliefs on the monoliths show Shagambi overseeing Chultan warriors as they train with spears and swords.
The door to the shrine is beyond and appears to be a massive heavy set hinged chunk of stone. It hangs open. Through the door, steps descend into a fifteen-foot-high, moss-covered room. Four statues of Omuan warriors stand in alcoves to either side, overlooking a barred gladiatorial pit in the floor. Each statue is holding a brass spear which is set into their hands. On the far side of the chamber, a stone pedestal stands conspicuously bare. A relief on the wall behind it shows a monstrous jaguar with six snakes protruding from its shoulders, fighting off a squat, frog-like humanoid armed with a spear. To the left of the relief is a narrow tunnel with stairs leading down. You can easily walk around this room and avoid the bars in the floor, through which, 20 feet below, you see a fighting pit. You see three dead bodies, all recently killed, with what looks like spear wounds in them.
Through the bars below, you can see a six foot high doorway on the left of the pit, and another on the right of the pit. They are open, with no doors or bars in them.

The cube is gone? exclaims Badger in frustration as he sees the bare pedestal. Then looking down into the pit, he adds But maybe it hasn't gone very far, and looking up at Mal he asks: Mal, do you think perhaps some of the Red Wizards survived and are still searching for the cubes?

Sickle looks at the open door and then through the bars to the pit below. “We could go down after them, see where that other door below leads. Or we can set a trap for them here and hope they come back out this way.” He pauses, “If we do get attacked though, I wonder if we are meant to fight them without magic.”
"What's the plan? It's just one cube and if they're looking for cubes, they'll need to come to us," Silas states from outside, "We should just move on to next spot,"

You all remember back fondly to a just thirty minutes earlier. After leaving the last shrine, Badger looks back, and at the limit of his magical hand, plucks the pouch from the pedestal. The doors immediately slam shut. From within you hear a loud hissing sound. Standing back from the door, you watch and wait. It remains locked, but a few moments later a bit of green gas seems to seep from the seams of the door. It smells foul and tastes bitter at the back of your tongue before you back away.
Boris looks at it in surprise. "Well...sometimes you get it right I guess....."
Everybody has a good chuckle as you wandered away.
Now, at the shrine with the missing cube, you look about and try and determine the best route forward. ?
"I have no idea if any of the Red Wizards survived the ambush from that beast, I thought I was the only survivor," then points to Orvex. "Clearly I was wrong, there could still be some alive. They seem pretty sure of themselves we might want to ambush them here as they won;t be expecting an attack and they might be down resources. If we wait for them to come to us, we might stumble in am ambush of their choosing not ours. If we set an ambush for them to come out, who knows what else might be attracted to the noise we would make. I suggest we go down now and confront who ever is down there."
The group walks down the front stairs, then skirt around the barred off pit. Moving past the alcoves with the statues holding their bronze spears, and the empty pedestal, the group heads through the doorway and down the stairs. The passage turns left, and down, then left again, and down for a ways before turning left a final time and leading into the pit beneath. As you walk into the room you hear the sound of what seems like the rattle of chains from the passage on the far side. Several dead bodies lay about this room, their blood relatively fresh. Flies buzz about the bodies.
Mal, you recognize a couple of the hired hands. Davok, one of the local guides, seems to have died from several spear strikes. He was a good man. The woman there, also dead from a spear strike to the throat, was a simple hired hand with a miserable attitude and a general avoidance of trouble. They must be down to the dregs if they had her battling something in here. Half expecting your exits to be blocked, or for the statues from above to come alive and attack the group, instead you see four humanoids made of clay coming marching down the passage from below. They have no weapons aside from their balled fists as they approach the room. They look threatening.

Whispering to the group, "Looks like some of the Red Wizards group did survive as these two were from that group, so be on your toes, especially since it looks like company is coming." As she points out the figures approaching.
Sickle hisses, with a glance at the statues above, "No magic. At least not at first. I'm not even sure weapons are wise. Shagambi teaches us to fight evil with honor. That's what the inscription said right? All I've seen since we came to this shrine are spears."
Can I tell if the dead bodies died with weapons in hand?
No magic? asks Badger incredulously. He curses the turn of fate that he should need his sling bullets for battle moments after leaving half of them behind for dead weight, but fumbles around to find his sling and whatever stones are left.
