The group continues to pound on one of the creatures. Silas seems quite content to just put everything into bashing the thing. Mal takes a final swing, and then disengages and moves back out of the pit, heading back up the tunnel with the stairs to the room above where the statues with the spears are. Badgers stone slams off the things head. Sickles attempt scrapes down its side.
Ham's blow finally finishes the first creature off, it's crumbles to dust at your feet. The other three remain untouched as Boris misses.

Mandra stands back, watching Mal head up the stairs, and goes with her.
Mal and Mandra get to the statues, and pull one of the spears out of the hands of one of the statues rather easily. As they do so, the pedestal begins turning, stone grinding. The top of the pedestal which is a slightly narrow stone column on top of the thicker base, corkscrews down into the the base, and then a stone cover clicks into place. It doesn't take much to realize that, if the stone were on top of the pedestal, without the four spears up here in the hands of the statues, the cube would have been hidden inside the pedestal.
Placing the spear back in the final statues hands causes the pedestal to once again open it's top, corkscrew up a small column into place. However the cube is still missing.
Everyone's next actions. (Mal, you can't get back and attack this action, but you can get most of the way back to the battle if you like.)

The group withdraws away from the clay golems that continue to advance, albeit slowly, towards them. As they step out of the threshold of the shrine, the golems stop, and turn, and return back downstairs, through the pit, and into the other area. You hear the clattering of chains and steel and then all is quiet.
The group looks around, new bruises and some dents the only thing you have to show for the battle.
Orvex speaks up, having stayed quiet and out of the way all combat, "It would seem some of the Red Wizards survived." Truly a statement of the obvious. "If we meet them, either Mal or I may be able to engage in negotiations. After all, we are all here for the same reason. Right?"
Given your proximity, you take a few minutes to walk through some tall trees and brush and get near the edge of the chasm to the east. Tumbledown ruins cling to the edges of the lip of the rift overlooking a bubbling lake of lava. Even from here, the heat is intense, the view down below obscured by the rippling of the air, combined with a steady stream of smoke that stings your eyes. Across the lake, a pillar of rock rises two hundred feet above the lava, a walled overgrown ruin with palms perches on its summit. It looks like, perhaps at it's closest, the gap between the pillar and the cliffs to the city are maybe sixty feet across, but you'd have to circle around to the north to get closer.
Also to the south of here you notice another two hundred foot column of rock jutting up and out of the lava. Black crusted lava climbs around its base. The top has no ruins but appears to be covered in a relatively thin layer of vegetation. A stone bridge, more recent than the rest of the ruins, seems to arc from part of the city over to the pillar.
Finally to the north, a steady stream of water pours from the cliff top into a magnificent waterfall. The water that falls towards the lava is lost in a reddish haze of steam that billows up and out of the chasm. It's unclear if the water even reaches the lava or just evaporates into steam before touching the molten rock.
On the far side of the chasm, the jungle tumbles to the very edge of the lava lake, almost three hundred feet above the molten rock. Trees, vines and the like hang off the edges. You spot the tiny forms of gargoyles crouched along the jungle edge, obscured by vines and the like. They maintain their watch along all the cliffs, even this one.
Any particular direction you're going to go in now? Here's the updated map. Green shading indicates areas of the city you've searched.
"Onto the next near Shrine people?" Silas question as he strapping his warhammer back.

I'd like to hope there isn't a shrine on that pinnacle of rock in that lava lake, muses Badger, but there seems to be a law of nature that dictates that there will be. Perhaps we can circle the edge and cross the river, and see if we can see anything from the edge.

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
"We do need them all to get past that door and we shold move swiftly as then we can possibly catch up to my previous employers and deal with them." Mal suggests.
Looking southeast towards the stairs, Sickle sees a wide boulevard, with frequent stairs that climb up several plateaus, eventually reaching the same height as the top of the cliffs. A massive gate appears to have once been a glorious entrance to the city. The entrance way has a guardhouse. Arrow slits are cut into its limestone walls, and a lopsided iron portcullis hangs over the gateway, beyond which you see the encroaching jungle.
The group begins to curve around the edge of the lake of lava. The stench of sulphur fills your noses and the air across the lake ripples violently, the smoke rising in streamers into the sky. Creeping through ruins and under a rather thick layer of tree cover here you eventually hear the rushing sound of the river streaming over the edge. The air becomes moist and full of steam that is billowing up out of the lava. The river here is pretty wide, and the current looks very strong, the river bed looks treacherous as it runs between hidden ruins under the surface and mostly dissolved chunks of ancient limestone. Just to the north of here, perhaps 200 feet up river you see a massive tree that's over 100 feet long and has fallen across the river. It looks like a relatively safe crossing. The tree looks large enough for two people to stand side by side.

On the way to the tree, Badger will continually cast Detect Thoughts using the Helm of Telepathy to detect the presence of any thinking creatures nearby.
(Only works within 30 feet, so will probably get jumped before he detects them, but at least can get a Suggestion in early)
