Mal silently moves back to the entrance of the room and whispers what he has found. Then will wait for the others to finish tinkering around. Keeping a watch out for anything coming towards them.
Mal, you look back at the group. They seem to be just sorta of standing around poking at stuff, but no one is making any moves to make use of the gear. If they change their mind, they can always come back. Which way do you go, or what do you do next?

"We can sort through this stuff on our way back. For now we need to keep moving." And then Mal would stealthily creep down to the back of the secret door that was mentioned and see if there is a peep hole to look through or if it is locked or trapped.
Before Mal can move ahead, Silas will grab him for a second and cast Guidance, "Grab whatever's usable and let's go," Silas states looking at the rest as he let Mal go.

Moving as quietly as a ghost, Mal gets to the back of the secret door. No peep hole, no traps. Hearing no sounds on the other side, she pushes it open ever so slightly and peers through. Behind the secret door, is a ten by ten room. Water fills a carved stone font in the center. On the other side of the room there's a 5 foot hallway that leads to the back of another secret door.

Sickle looks around and takes note of the room, finally understanding its purpose, despite being initially confused that there might be a more sinister purpose. He does take a moment to see if he understands how the Iron Maiden works. Then he follows Mal down the hall.
(Did we short rest? If so, did Mal roll hit dice?)
In the room with the font, is there any water flow from above? Any sense of where we are relative to the rooms above?

Grenk feels pretty good after that healing prayer, though he took little damage compared to Mal. Then with the opportunity he would quickly rummage through some of the items. Most he would just disregard, however if there is any oil for fire he would take a flask full.
Sickle, the Iron Maiden type thing is beyond you. All manner of foul liquids and materials seem to get pumped into it, and it seems to be used to make....whatever this armored horror is, but how, you don't know. Some sort of foul magic for certain.
You figure you must be close to the main open column that goes up and down in this place, at least you're headed in that direction. The water is not flowing. Just still and very clear looking.
Grenk, you have a flask full of oil.
I'm pretty sure you long rested at the front. It felt early, but you did anyway so people could get spells back and heal from the horrific spikes and poison that killed Boris. Plus it was near night time. Though of course you're losing track of the time of day in this place.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Badger was indeed asking for a long rest before, but not because he needed - just because... he wanted it. He is fine to continue.)
With Silas bringing up the rear, Badger actually feels more secure, being surrounded by defenders. Stepping into the room and seeing the fountain, he hisses: Be careful, it could be dangerous! Drawing his crystal ball, he announces: Let's see what this is about, then. Allow me. There is a method to this.
Badger will cast Detect Magic. If the font or its liquid is indeed magic, Badger will touch it with his Mage Hand or toss various spell components into it to see how it reacts... Arcana: 26
As Badger approaches the font in order to start experimenting, the surface swirls, yet the water remains still. As the water begins to swirl, eerie light emanates from within the basin. Slowly, an image resolves on the water's surface. You see, in shades of grey, a passageway. You are seeing it from someone's eyes as they stalk, slowly, down the hallway.

Badger describes what he can see to the others, encouraging them to gather around and see for themselves. As he watches, he tries to memorise as much detail as he can for future reference, trying to fumble around for some parchment without taking his eyes from the font. This could save us a lot of trouble, he says to the others. Let's watch for a while and see where the traps or enemies might be so we can avoid them.

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
Everyone else can also see the image in the water, so Badger doesn't need to describe it all. You all gather round to watch. The thing moves painfully slowly. It slowly lumbers down the hallway. It passes a passageway on it's left which it doesn't even look down....annoyingly. It slowly approaches a door at the end of the hallway. The door is a solid stone slab which blocks the end of the corridor. Painted on the slab is the image of a gaunt male humanoid wearing a hooded cloak, its face a mask of stars. The figure's withered left hand is raised with palm extended. The creature raises it's hand in a similar fashion. The slab sinks into the floor, revealing a dusty passageway beyond that goes left and right. Relief carvings on the walls depict crowds of humanoids fleeing a black star in the sky, with rays of light extending from it to turn those they strike to dust.
It turns right and wanders down a passage which bends right, then turns left. Another of these weird key skeletons cling to the ceiling there. This creature ignores it and wanders past, turning left again. The passage splits left and right. It turns right without even looking left, like a jerk. It continues on, passing another left passage without looking. The passage its in turns right, then left, then left. On the right side of the wall a stone face of devilish countenance protrudes from the wall. The devil's mouth is agape and filled with darkness. The thing walks past. It turns left, then left, then right. It passes a passageway on it's left, then stops and turns to an open passage on it's right. Though you can see that it has a stone slab sunk in the floor like the one it opened. It steps through, turns, and raises it's hand in a similar fashion. The slab grinds upwards. Then it turns and continues down the passage. A stairway leads downwards.
The thing stops. The water of the pool ripples slightly. Then the thing looks upwards and....you see....your reflection in a pool just above it. It growls, and reaches up and....a hand emerges from the water, then another, as the creature begins pulling itself through the water font into the room you're in! As it emerges, you see it's an armored covered creature over a fleshy body like the one you fought with the dwarves.
Roll initiative.

[OOC: Pretty sure we have not had a short rest yet, as far as I know.]

Silas will wait for the rest to go before following in the rear due to be most noisy one.
