This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rober returns Justice to its place on his back and removed his abacus, the tool of the Occultant. He moves around the room, beads clicking furiously as he determines the value added to team and franchise by the slaying of the skeletons, especially the alchemist.
"Hmm," he muses aloud. "No entrails to read, hard to burn bone." With a decisive nod, he locks the abacus beads in position and puts it away. Pulling out a long piece of string with various knots and markings on it, he begins measuring the skeletons: length, width, size of arms, etc. He takes detailed measurements of the alchemist's skeleton. When he's done, he notes the results on a piece of parchment, pulls out the abacus, and rapidly makes more calculations.
"Ah, as I thought!" The satisfaction in his voice matches that on his face. He turns to Hector. "Well struck, Hector. Your final blow increased the value of the franchise by 6.7%, minus 3.2% for expenses and ancillary assistance and sundry affects. Yes, well done." He puts his tool away and joins the others in investigating the room and searching the skeletons.
Investigation 7
OOC: Rober will Read the Kill and grant Hector a D10. Once within the next hour, Hector can add the d10 to an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw.
Treasure. The alchemist wears an empty bag of holding at the waist. One rib bone on each of the skeletons is dipped in gold and is worth 5 gp. The alchemist also carries a luckstone
So that is a total of 7 gold-dipped rib bones.
You also find 6 short swords.
In the next room...
The secret door opens toward you to reveal a clutter of broken glass and earthenware piled on the floor beyond. Three small copper pots lie amid the debris.
As the party enters and sees the rest of the room:
A bench runs down the west wall of what seems to be a laboratory. On the bench are jars of powders and liquids and several pieces of chemical apparatus.
There is a table against the south wall, forming an L-shape with the bench. A book is open on the table.
Also on the table is a candlestick, with a tiny stump of unlit candle still in it, and a variety of other items that, even in the dim light, shine with the warmth of pure gold. One of these objects looks like a human skull.
Book. Before the alchemist died, he was reading the book that lies open on the table. Its title is Ye Secret of Ye Philosopher’s Stone, no author acknowledged. The book is worth 50 gp to the right buyer.
Though it is written in Common, the book is too profound and recondite a work to be fully understood by anyone other than the appropriate specialist, but a character might be able to deduce the general subject matter. Gaining that knowledge requires 8 hours of study and a successful DC 20 Intelligence (Arcana) check. The book contains instructions for the creation of a “philosopher’s stone,” then describes how that object can be used to convert base metal into gold.
Golden Objects. The objects on the table are made of pure gold.
The collection includes the following items: •A human skull (20 gp) •An apple (5 gp) •A rose (5 gp) •A set of five small discs (balance weights, 5 gp each)
Treasure. The table holds small stacks of gold coins totaling 47 gp. Examining the table closely reveals a concealed drawer that contains the spellbook the alchemist used when he was alive. The book’s contents include dancing lights, comprehend languages, Tenser’s floating disk, and shatter. The chemical apparatus on the bench is worth 20 gp.
"Absolutely fascinating," Feanaro says as he strides into the workroom and gazes at the trinkets within. He examines the various golden items and the stray alchemical items.
"To answer your question, I believe it might have been when he was alive when he was making gold," he says to Hector. "That would be the most logical deduction. As for these goods I say we bag all of this and bring it back to the tower. I would really like to give a much closer examination to all these components."
(I assume the appropriate specialization would be an alchemist Artificer and not someone proficient with alchemy supplies)
Assuming the search of the house as it completely at it's end Feanaro uses his Wand of Secrets to do a final sweep of the house.
Rober peruses the open tome but finds the spell book far more interesting, glancing through it avidly for several minutes. Finally, he helps pack everything away in his he Bag of Holding. He’d heard of such a thing, of course, but to actually see one—very interesting.
He pulls out his abacus and runs some calculations quickly. “Conservatively, these items have increased our franchise’s worth by at least 120 gold. Of course, I’m only estimating the value of the bones, swords and alchemical equipment.”
“Feanaro, I will recheck the house with you to double check my mapping, also the other bodies were probably used in the creation of the philosopher’s stone,” Alex replies. He then quickly looks at the table again and says, “And this Stone of importance is either broken or stolen as I don’t see it laying here.”
(After the second sweep through Alex will want to put all the gold in the bag of holding and present the items back at the tower. He will also send in his map with what ever documents that will be sent to the contractor.)
"Don't assume that gold is worthless to the dead. Though he won't need it for food & ale, there are a lot of things you can buy for gold. The book is a good example or live... or use to be live test subjects," he says looking at the other skeletons that were with the alchemist. Orgen watches the others pick up the bag of holding, but doesn't say anything. Instead, he grabs the swords in the room and drags them back to the wagon. He then goes into the room that he found the bandits in and takes all the supplies and weapons that was sitting in the room.
Ash nods as he watches the others examine the room for a moment. He nods at Cheddar as they begin scanning the house any other documents or clues that contain more information about the house or the people who were in it.

I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
You have looked through the entire house and basement area. Down the caverns where the previous group fought the smugglers there is a single passage not yet looked into.
Sea Cave
The passage leads into a cave that opens directly to the sea. The tide is out at present, and there is little water in the cave, but there is an obvious high-water mark three feet above the floor. Pulled up onto the sloping cave floor is a small boat, perhaps large enough for eight people, with oars, a step-down mast, and a neatly furled sail. A rope tied to the bow is being held down by a large boulder that serves as an anchor.
There are no items of value in this area except the jolly boat, which might fetch as much as 100 gp. Since bolts of silk and casks of brandy are cumbersome,
You can deduce this is where they would meet up with the boat they signaled previously.
The wand of secrets doesn't find anything else of intrest.
After packing everything he could Orgen says to the group, " well it seems we took care of everything of importance. If anybody could drive a boat I suggest we take some of the party on it ti sail it back to town and the rest load up on the wagon to go grab our crook and meet them there. We then can delvier the news to the town concil. "
Rober shakes his. “Nor do I. But I agree the rest of your plan sounds good.” He pauses for a moment, then “It appears this portion of our contract is fulfilled. Does anyone know what is next?”
The town council of Saltmarsh gratefully rewards the characters 200 gp for uncovering and shutting down the smuggling operation.
You all then return to the tower, where Quilla is pleased by the results of your enterprise, and the fulfillment of your contract with the town council.
You now have a few downtime days to do things in. What does everyone do with this time. we will say it will be one weeks' worth of time... You can use the downtime activities in Acquisitions Inc, the PHB, or Xanatar's.
Need everyone to give me downtime activities, even if it is just drinking at the tavern in town or sitting around the tower waiting for the next gig. If you truly do not have anything you wish to do, then just say so and we will skip the week you could be doing something.

Hector takes a few deep breaths to calm himself. “Is everyone alright,” he asks.
“Looks like the magic skeleton was turning things to gold, but of what use is gold to the dead?”
