The night passes uneventfully. In the morning you find yourself traveling further South. After another two hours of walking you come to a place of interest. Across the river you notice a small boat pulled up on the bank outside of another large cave mouth.
"Maybe whoever own that boat could give us a ride. It might make the exploration quicker if we had such a vessel to carry us. And if we fi d it abandoned, we could always just appropriate it. I could fly myself or a colu teer over if wed like to try it" Trin offers.
@DM: are we walking upstream or downstream, or is it slow enough thst it's moot?
Maximus smiles inwardly at his companions at they once again discuss the same situation they had several moments ago. "As much as the boat is a temptation, what happens if we start to cross this river and whatever is beyond the doorway comes out and attacks. The party would be split and some of us might not be able to retreat back across thew river fast enough. It is better to stay together and continuance in the direction we are going and then circle back, from a more defensible position."
He then lowers his head and continues to update his map.
Well, if I fly over and get I to trouble, even if my flight fails ne, I can always step back through the mists. If i can push it into the water, the boat won't be much more than 30feet from this bank, so if I stand upon it, I can make it most of the way back to shore.
Trin doesn't wait for an answer. Instead he draws his sword (the ruby in its hilt acting as his focus), casts fly on himself and ventures over the water towards the boat. If he can land neat the boat, he will look for a rope holding it in place, ready to cut it if he sense any sign of hostility.
Stigr slumps a little with obvious reluctance and stands ready to keep an eye on Trin to see if he needs assistance, "I was really hoping to avoid the water..."
(You have been moving down river. The stream has a strong current, so there is definitely a direction to it.) Flying over the rushing water, you land easily inside the small rowboat. Glancing around you look at the largest of the caves nearby, and see... Maw. This yawning cave resembles the maw of some great fish. Natural columns of rock support the 30-foot-high ceiling. Statue. In the middle of the cave stands a half-crumbled statue of a princely human clad in plate armor, his sword drawn and at the ready. Nothing happens as you land in the rowboat though.
"Hey guys" Trin calls across the river, "You're not gonna believe this, but there's a statue of some guy over here."
Trin looks around inside the boat for a paddle or an oa, which he'll use if he can find, otherwise he'll just sue the butt of his staff the try and push off into the water.
Investigation (of the boat to see if she looks worthy of faring these waters): 18
Athletics (to push the boat, with himself inside, into the water. I don't know how big this boat is, but I'm guessing this is feasible): 17
Trin is able to find a pair of oares in the rowboat. He uses one of them to push the boat away from the shore and into the river. Please give me another athletics check to see if you can row strong enough against the current to keep from being swept further down river than the group across the river from you.
Trin starts to row the boat across the river, but is unable to keep up with the flow of the river, getting swept down river quickly. Trin is likely still concentrating on Fly, so can leave the boat if he wishes. The rest of you see Trin start to row, but then see him getting swept down river. What do you do?

Stigr looks to his companions unhappily, "One of you is going to suggest we get the boat and use it to check out the cave, aren't you?"
“It’s across the river, so I’m gona go with what we talked about last night and just out to stay on this side til our map is full.”
"Maybe whoever own that boat could give us a ride. It might make the exploration quicker if we had such a vessel to carry us. And if we fi d it abandoned, we could always just appropriate it. I could fly myself or a colu teer over if wed like to try it" Trin offers.

Perception 11
Stigr slumps a little with obvious reluctance and stands ready to keep an eye on Trin to see if he needs assistance, "I was really hoping to avoid the water..."
“Well... looks like we may not have an option now... be ready.”
Perception 7
Maximus pouts his cartography implements away and pulls out his crossbow just in case.

(If investigation reveals a big hole in the boat, Trin won't push the boat into the water to sink)
Stigr looks puzzled, "I know this place is weird, but why put a statue in a random cave? Anything else in there?"
Trin
Trin is able to find a pair of oares in the rowboat. He uses one of them to push the boat away from the shore and into the river. Trin's Str (athletics) check to row, row, row his boat: 6
(D'oh!)
Boat
Trin starts to row the boat across the river, but is unable to keep up with the flow of the river, getting swept down river quickly. Trin is likely still concentrating on Fly, so can leave the boat if he wishes. The rest of you see Trin start to row, but then see him getting swept down river. What do you do?
Stigr hesitates for a long moment, "Could you tie a rope to it and fly back? We can just pull the boat to this side?"
"I left the rope back at the other cave upstream!" Trin shouts in reply.
“Well it’s all for not now. Just come back and let’s resume. We’ll get to the other side eventually.”
