Grunting with anger as another of his allies is injured, Gerrard slogs through some more swamp until he is adjacent to the pitiful creature, then stabs its torso, trying to open up a critical artery or even pierce its heart!
Rapier Attack with advantage: Attack: 22 Damage: 5
Second Rapier Attack with advantage: Attack: 12 Damage: 8
Main Gauche Attack with advantage: Attack: 11 Damage: 5
Peri laughs at the troll's flailing. "Did you see that, Kei? He fell down down down! Darned inconvenient for me, though." He tries pushing through the muck to strike the beast (move 10' closer) then gives up and fires an eldritch blast into it. (13 for 1)
Gerrard manages to get a significant blow in as the troll leapt into the pool, then following it, a second hit with his rapier. It is wounded from multiple wounds, and still jumping and flinching in a wild panic from the hallucinatory flames. But yet it still stands.
Peri closes some of the swampy distance, but misses with his arcane beam.
Dwal may act next, with advantage, followed by Kei.

Kei
A maniacal laugh escapes his mouth. Finally, one of his illusions stuck. He continues the ruse. "Is it me or is it getting hot around here!" Along with his taunt he slings more magical damage towards the troll.
Taking in the spectacle of the onslaught, Dwal just shakes his head and casts Fire Bolt again, twice.
Bolt #1: Hit: 10 Damage: 10
Bolt #2: Hit: 15 Damage: 9
(Help! How do you cast two cantrips in one turn?)
OK, my bad. I misread about casting a spell then a cantrip in 1 turn. I had thought you could cast 2 cantrips but, after rereading I can't do that. You can only cast a spell then a cantrip. I have adjusted the actions in both posts accordingly. (have to have quicken spell meta-magic or fighter action surge to do such a thing.)

The troll, shrieking in panic from the hallucinatory fire, shrieks even louder when actual fire from Dwal's ball of actual arcane fire strikes and burn it.
Kei's ominous bell sounds. Wisdom save: 4
The troll crumples to the ground, dead. Combat is over.

Peri:
"Dumb beast!" He shakes his head at the burning troll. "Thought because he was twinklin' with faerie fire he was really burnin'. Wonder what it's like to stumble through life without a clue?" Peri wades over to the place he first saw the trolls, looking to see if the trolls had dropped anything valuable or at least some fresh clams. Perception25
Pulling out his healer's kit, Gerrard aids in cleaning and dressing Oceanus' and Valignat's wounds while Peri scouts. He speaks to them each in their own language briefly as he does so.
Elvish:
"It would seem Aquatic Elf and LIzardman can fight alongside against a common enemy after all, my friend."
Draconic:
"You fought well, Valignat. I am glad to have you with us."

Does anyone need assistance?" He offers what minor assistance he can. He plucks a few chores on his cittern as a brief demonstration.
As the group gathers themselves, it occurs to him that theyve not travelled very far. "I know we're on a tight schedule, but are we really traversing this muck in pitch black"

Peri finds a mound of old crab shells. Clearly this was a favorite snacking spot. In one pile he finds an empty bottle and a string of pearls, caked with years of grime.
As the group gathers themselves, it occurs to him that theyve not travelled very far. "I know we're on a tight schedule, but are we really traversing this muck in pitch black"
"Sleeping place ahead," responds Valignat in Common. "Travel dangerous in darkness."

Peri:
Peri gently washes some of the grime off the pearls. Wonder what poor traveler these belonged to, he thinks. He considers kicking the bottle into the water but decides to clean it to try to determine what it once held. Investigation11 He carries his finds back to the group. "Looks like we weren't the first folks waylaid by these two." To Dwal, "What were you hopin' to get out of talkin' to 'em? You know I'm all for talkin' things out and not assumin' folks are bad; I tried my best to keep a lid on things with the lizardfolk aboard the ship. But trolls're just evil."

Poison, by the markings on it. It's a very old bottle. Whatever contents it once had are long gone.
Unless you have further business, the party sets off again, led by Valignat.
The going is tough - slogging through bone-chilling thigh-deep water in places. The insects are relentless, even in this cold weather. You are covered in welts, grime, and half-coating of foul-smelling mud.
At one point you hear a splash to your left, and get a glimpse of three massive frogs - each the size of Dwal - watching you pass from a thicket of reeds in the distance.
"We approach a sleeping place soon," adds Valignat. Light is beginning to fade.
Striving valiantly to not complain about the insects, Gerrard actually finds the stretches of water almost easier to deal with given the enchantment in his armor--which takes the edge of the chill as well. Nodding at Valignat's encouragement, Gerrard soldiers on, keeping his grumbling about the uncomfortableness of actually adventuring inside his brain instead of on his lips.

Darkness descends upon the Hool Marshes. The ambient sounds change, but the biting insects continue their attacks unabated.
The party continues to follow Valignat. He leads you through the darkness to a large, wet, grassy, muddy hillock surrounded by pools of dank water and dense, leafless scrub, which also tops the small earthen hill. Pushing scrub aside, he shows you large muddy cavities in the side of the dirt mound. "Sleeping place," he announces. He crawls into one of the muddy holes, and covers himself with brush.

Dwal
"Well that was an event." Dwal says.
Dwal will cast Control Flames and use it to increase the flames on both Troll bodies to make sure they don't regenerate and come back at the party.
While doing so he will tell his companions "There might be Troll home/hole around. If'n we find it, it might hold a trinket or two."
Dwal manages to stoke the flames, eventually incinerating both creatures.
