"OY! No need to be racist! Sanbalet said we were runnin a up-and-up operation. S'long as we acknowledged his "supreme magical eminence", whatever that means, all were welcome to be makin' some coin. I'll drop off the goods on the deck, so gather round. My compatriots here are to help sort out the bag into the hold, but if yer wanting it up here, so be it."Gulin will shove the ration crates back in the bag from the floor of the boat, an indignant look in his eyes. He'll toss up a rope. "Caspia, tie us off so we don't lose the boat. Sanbalet'd be pissed, send a trio of scorching bolts if you caused us to lose a good rowboat. Seen him do it to one of his hobgoblins when the smelly bastard opened up one of the barrels of booze."
Gulin will climb up after Reynnar after the boat is secure, and will give Zi a hand up.
As the party climbs one by one aboard the Sea Ghost, the two pirates on deck each take a step back five feet, without dropping their defensive stance. They continue to wait for the trade goods to be produced.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Sanbalet did not mention he worked with such close-minded earth dwellers. Tritons are excellent in water travel, stealthy and fast. It is obvious why he would choose to work with one of us for this particular job and I needed the work. Come help us haul these goods up."
Persuasion roll: 4
Caspia casts the spell Command and speaks "Drop." to get the enemy nearest me to drop his weapon. If successful, Caspia will smirk at the sailor in a condescending manner.
The pirate's eyes cloud over as his mind is bombarded with Caspia's magical powers. Moments later, the eyes clear, and lucidity returns to the pirate. You hear one of the pirates on the deck shout, "Sound the alarm, and get the caster before she puts us under her spell!" A bell begins to ring from the crow's nest above you, and the pair of pirates on the deck menacingly advance towards Caspia.
Pirate 1 Scimitar Attack: 15 Damage: 6
Pirate 2 Scimitar Attack: 15 Damage: 4
Both blows weakly scrape off of the Triton's armor. Zi looks around at the situation and shouts, "Is this really happening? Let's solve our troubles before more arrive!"
Let me know if there is any desire to just meet for an hour or two and get through the Sea Ghost via discord.
Gulin shouts an arcane command, summoning a silvery sphere into his hand. He blows it outward, a glittering magical dust-like essence filling the air. He trusts the tough Triton will be fine.
Cast: Sleep (16) so that it hits the two pirates, and tries to avoid Caspia if possible. If not possible, she should still be fine.
If the pirate next to him falls asleep, Gulin will step by him and head for the stairway up to where the wheel is. "Expect company!"
The closest pirate to Gulin falls asleep, crumpling to the ground. The other pirate remains standing. The dwarf heads towards the back poop deck where the ship's steering mechanism is located.
Climbing the stairs, Gulin arrives on the Sea Ghost's aft upper deck. The tiller is the most prominent feature of this area, rising from the deck about six feet from the stern and having a horizontal arm some six feet long.
Reynnar bounds across the deck of the Sea Ghost as the storm continues to rain down upon the deck. Stopping alongside the railing next to Gulin, the elf notches an arrow in his bow and sends it sailing in the direction of the pirate still standing next to the jolly boat. The man clutches his throat, then silently collapses to the ground, expertly felled by the arrow.
Eerily the warning bell from the crow's nest continues to sound from above, puncturing the sound of the oncoming storm. Caspia and Zi ready their next move.
Still need an update from Tiffany before the next turn.
Zi draws her longsword and walks over to the unconscious pirate and attempts to slit his throat.
Longsword Attack against Unconscious Pirate Advantage with Automatic Crit: 17 Damage: 13
With a deft blow, the pirate's life is snuffed out. Zi hearing the incessant ringing and seeing her comrades heading to the poop deck shouts out to them, "So I guess you want me to deal with this then?"
Zi looks up at the rope ladder strung up the mast, allowing entry into the ship's crow's nest. The climb is about 40 feet from the main deck, and the conditions are not great. Rain has coated the rope ladder which is gently swaying as the boat rocks. The cleric begins to climb, making it about 10 feet off the main deck.
Meanwhile the bell continues to ring. Another pirate, crew from the look of his dress, pokes his head out from a door in the forecastle. His eyes go wide as he spots Zi climbing the mast and sees the remainder of the group stationed on the poop deck. You hear him cry out, "Intruders! We are being boarded!"
Soon the main deck near the forecastle is filled with three additional pirates. The party hears creaking as someone runs up stairs directly underneath the poop deck. Shortly thereafter a door slams open a large half-orc bounds onto the main deck. "Were de enemies?" the half-orc shouts. One of the pirates points towards the poop deck, the half-orc turns, and his eyes lock with yours. "Lez deal wi dem before de captain wakes!"
Caspia casts Bless on herself, Gulin, and Reynnar.
This will cost me my total action this turn.
Bless: You bless up to three creatures of your choice within range. Whenever a target makes an attack roll or a saving throw before the spell ends, the target can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to the attack roll or saving throw.
Lasts for up to 10 turns assuming I don't lose concentration, per Steve.
Yes, all three of the characters on the poop deck would be able to make out the pirate ringing the bell in the crow's nest. From this angle the pirate would have 3 quarters cover. He would be roughly 30 feet away. Given the conditions, characters without at least 30 feet of dark-vision would also have disadvantage.
"Caspia, hold the stairwell! Reynnar, SHOOT THAT DAMN CROW!"
Gulin summons forth a firebolt, streaking up to the crow's nest. Immedietely afterward, Avalloc swoops down and claws at the man, not doing damage but throwing off his stance, making him a more tempting target for Reynnar's arrow.
Gulin's bolt hits the bottom of the crow's nest, missing the pirate. Avalloc swoops in to bat at the pirate in the crow's nest. The man stands higher against the clouds and lightning in the background as he tries to fight off the hawk. Reynnar uses this instant to let loose an arrow. The arrow strikes true in the pirate's chet and he lets out a shout, though he still stands.
Meanwhile, Zi continues her climb towards the crow's nest. The climb takes all of the strength the cleric can muster, but she manages to make it to the top of the rope ladder.
Zi took the dash action to make it to the top of the ladder.
As she reaches the top of the rope ladder, the pirate takes a stab at Zi with a short sword.
Crow's Nest Pirate Short Sword Attack: 9 Damage: 2
Though the blow lands it is easily shrugged off by the cleric's heavy armor, leaving Zi unharmed. The pirates on the deck below, hearing the commotion, let loose a volley of crossbow bolts at Zi.
Main Deck Pirate 1 Crossbow Attack: 7 Damage: 4
Main Deck Pirate 2 Crossbow Attack: 18 Damage: 7
Main Deck Pirate 3 Crossbow Attack: 18 Damage: 3
Zi, whose still exposed at the top of the ladder--and not quite within the safety of the crow's nest--takes two arrows in the leg. She shouts down to the group, "I should be fine!" followed by a subsequent shout a few seconds later,"I think..."
The half-orc pirate, whose statute and bearing hint at a rank higher than the others, advances on Caspia. The half-orc shouts, "Out of me way!" as he lounges at the triton with a longsword held in both hands.
Pirate First Mate Longsword Attack 1: 11 Damage: 10
Pirate First Mate Longsword Attack 1: 21 Damage: 6
While Caspia parries the first attack with her blades, the second one strikes true.
Caspia Concentration Check (DC 10): 9
Unfortunately the blade cuts deep enough to disturb Caspia's concentration, causing her bless spell to collapse.
Two of the pirates advance across the deck to support their officer, while the third approaches the mast to help deal with Zi. The third pirate begins to climb making it about five feet off the ground.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Look, we can be reasonable about this, just surrender, it'll be much easier than having to kill you all!" Reynnar shouts while taking a few steps north towards the rail, and looses an arrow at the first mate.
"OY! No need to be racist! Sanbalet said we were runnin a up-and-up operation. S'long as we acknowledged his "supreme magical eminence", whatever that means, all were welcome to be makin' some coin.
