Skip thinks these guys are totally on the up and up!
Approaching the guards Keth is stopped just short of the gate.
"Thankless yes but more so when people attempt to skip the line with empty words of gratitude. Get back to your master's beast man," the female guard in heavy armor growls as her compatriots put their hands on weapons all facing Keth.
He then hears a whistle above and sees the archers.
"Hey boys you know what an orc is good for? Even half of one..." A bowman from above calls down.
"Target practice," all guards seem to say in near unison.
Keth finds no friends among the guards.
"His kind burn White Spear just days ago captain," another guard comes forward his hands trembling slightly. "Why do we let them in," he then says his tone angry.
"We don't anymore and maybe we'll find a way to be rid of them soon enough," the female guard replies glaring at Keth. "Be about your business beast man," she says grimacing now.
Keeping his hands down and slightly away from his body, Keth responds, "I'm fresh off the boat and I know we are not welcome even before you take my race into account but I can assure you a round of drinks on my return regardless. I am waiting my turn to leave but my job requires I come back when I'm done. Can't we work something out?"

Brace is not impressed and realizes quickly that this is leading to trouble. He takes a moment before responding to gather a little spiritual strength and then says "So we give you money and you will protect us from who? Yourselves? Is that it? You are not good salesmen and we can take care of ourselves. Here is my offer to you young gents. Stay away from us and we will protect you from our wrath. It is a really generous offer and you should think long and hard before refusing it."persuasion3 Brace looks at Ulfgar and prepares for the worst.
"What's your business over the wall," she asks Keth as a cleric of Chauntea approaches in sweeping emerald cloak wearing a brilliant silver breastplate with a golden bundle of wheat stamped on it.
"Bows away," a tall human male paladin says holding his gloved hand up at the archers. "Loose a single arrow and have the wrath of our the Great Mother upon you," he warns. He's magnificent with tanned skin and dark hair. His armor is well made peeking out from his emerald green cloak. "You holding up the line," he calls to Keth. "Go back to your party and wait your turn," he says looking at Keth. "If you require reentry papers you should go there," he points to a great table now visible with a small line of obviously foreign folk and a few Talamhians. The acolytes of Mystra seem to be managing it with one long silver robed figure with an air of authority standing close by.

Laughter ripples through the group of boys. But when Brace conjures his aid they all stop.
"You don't scare me elf," the teen says spitting on the ground now gritting his teeth. "I'm sure we'll meet again on tbe road," he says but just then a group of Chauntea clerics seem to have been alerted. They approach with two guards moving the line along and spot check the ruffians cart. Then stop the party.
"Move along," bellows a barrel chested human man with a curling mustache to the boys. "You," he adds pointing at Brace. "By what Goddess do you cast," he asks now with a grilling intensity.
Ulfgar's eyes open widely as he heard the human question Brace. He's hoping that Brace is aware of the order of the city and the goddesses. He'll never speak for another but his curiosity gets the better of him. "Hail good sir, the light of the great goddess Sune radiates on me and my fellow travelers. It is with her hand and her glory that we travel this fine day."

Keth places his hand to his chest and bows before the woman bearing the Chauntea symbol, "I and my friends are seeking to get rid of a bandit group that has been stirring up trouble on the Gold road my lady."
A quick side glance and a much shallower bow to the armored man, "I thank you for the directions. I do need re-entry papers."
"Papers indeed," the male paladin says. "Stay your blades and bows. Let the man who's done you no injury return to his business," the male cleric of Chauntea says as the guards go back to their postings. "Tables over there." The man instructs Keth again pointing to the table.
Turning his head after meeting Landrae he sees the other part of the party is surrounded by clerics in green cloaks and guards.
>>>>>>>>>>
"You're no follower of Sune I've ever seen," the human Chauntea cleric exclaims as the guard pulls their weapons. "In the divine light of the Four whom do you serve," he demands looking at the party suspiciously.
Does andrae belatedly cathes up with Keth. "Sorry to leave you stranded there big man, I got distracted by a thought and before I knew it you were being guided towards the very enemy of civilisation... A task more deadly than a feeblemind trap... An endeavour so disheartening that no bard has ever included it in a tale of tragedy... administrative forms!" Landrae chuckles to herself, then speaks loudly enough for the cleric surrounding others to hear. "Fear not for out position in line, Ithink Ulfgar and Brace are negotiating with some false-faced bodyguards who are trying to swindle the meek and pious out of good coin."
Joining the back of the new line, Landrae continues to watch thendeveloping scene amongst her companions, and points of to Keth that they may need to get involved before they can finish the paperwork. "Should it come to it, I shall be at your back Keth, though I doubt 4 such youths would cause your mighty eagle any concern!"
Landrae gives Keth Bardic Inspiration.
Bardic Inspiration
You can inspire others through stirring words or music. To do so, you use a bonus action on your turn to choose one creature other than yourself within 60 feet of you who can hear you. That creature gains one Bardic Inspiration die, a d6.
Once within the next 10 minutes, the creature can roll the die and add the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes. The creature can wait until after it rolls the d20 before deciding to use the Bardic Inspiration die, but must decide before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. Once the Bardic Inspiration die is rolled, it is lost. A creature can have only one Bardic Inspiration die at a time.
Combat InspirationPHB, pg. 55
A creature that has a Bardic Inspiration die from you can roll that die and add the number rolled to a weapon damage roll, or, when an attack roll is made against the creature, it can use its reaction to roll the die and add the number rolled to its AC against that attack, after seeing the roll but before knowing whether it hits or misses.
Brace realizes another mistake a little late. "I am on an errand for my homeland to make peace here in Talamh. I did not mean to cause harm. These boys were attempting to threaten us and I was asking the God Meilikki (this is a little lie of course as Brace's direct service is to Tymora) for a little help to encourage them away from the danger of our swords. I hope I have not upset any alliances here. We travel in peace and hope to come back in peace." Brace opens his palms as he explains hoping to look contrite. (deception if needed 17 )
Skip would nod along as the very nice men make their offer to help and is a little surprised his companions don't seem to agree. He quickly stops paying attention to them however... sliding off of his horse when things start to seemingly go bad out of nowhere as guards and clerics focus on his friends. "Please! Everyone! We just.. just want to leave the city to help take care of the bandits... and to be able to return once we are done.." He would shout pleading... the eyes of the boy wide and obviously scared. "Please let us get out papers and go.. we dont want to be any trouble.." He would say.. moving between his friends.. trying to pull then towards the table and plead with those that would stop him.
Keth was glad to have Landrae with him and the confidence she stirred inside him. He was ready to face down the battle for re-entry papers but stopped and glanced at his friends as well as the confrontation started blossoming, possibly too much. "Let us see if Brace and Skipper can calm the situation, I do not envy our chances against the cleric or paladin. Even less so against the guards that will surely side with them," he makes comment to the bard. He waits, practically holding his breath for the outcome before resuming his purpose of going to the administration line.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Landrae watches intently as the clerics gather around the party and in her head plays through the 'I told you so' conversation with Brace regarding using magic. "I think you're right, there's no victory here if a fight breaks out. Those archers on the wall have easy targets and you're right about that paladin. I'm trying to work out who the leader is, maybe a few words in the right place can prevent things from boiling over."
Landrae tries to determine the organisation of the clerics and whether the paladin is in charge before making any move towards the situation, and whether the clerics are making any actions that seem hostile towards the party. Perception: 9

"Also in future casting so plainly not wearing symbols of your Lady is pure folly in the Empire. This is your warning," he adds curtly awaiting the answers about Skip.

Although he cannot hear what was said Keth does see that his friends are not in any immediate danger. "I will go get in line for our re-entry papers, come along," Keth asks Landrae as he begins to cut his way over to the Mystran administrators and waits dutifully in line.

Landrae accompanies Keth to the line fronted by the acolytes of Mystra, "I just hope that they don't talk themselves into any trouble... Let's get these papers sorted and hopefully we can still be in time to leave with the others."
