Talking to the vendor, “ could you explain to me what those rings can do ?”
She takes a moment to consider the question, then in a broken, halting common, replies, "Ah... the bird one, that be for escaping. The shield be making you tougher, and the other be making you not give away your thinkings."
“Humm I like the one with the shield but it’s pretty expansive. Any way to bring down the price ?
We’re about to get ride of your Medusa problem. Imagine the publicity you’ll have when I will say that I got a big help from the ring I got from your shop!

In addition I can pay with gems if you need”
She looks at you a bit dubiously when you mention the medusa. But softens a little when you talk about publicity, and gems. (OOG Make a Persuasion check.)
You take a look at your coin purse, and count up the coins plus the value of the gems. Sighing, you give a pleading look to the gnome woman, hoping she'll offer a discount. She crosses her arms, and gives you a stern look. Jimjar steps forward, produces a gold coin from his pouch and begins rubbing it between his fingers. "I think I lost one my bets to you before. I'm sure of it, so I owe ye. Here, watch this. I bet you wont' believe it."
Jimjar walks up to the woman, and begins talking quickly in gnomish. She raises an eyebrow, then chuckles and replies back. The conversation continues back and forth with quite a bit of laughing, and not a small amount of what appears to be flirting. During this time, Jimjar is continuously moving the gold coin in his hand through his fingers, back and forth, over and under each knuckle. Just as the conversation seems to be going on a bit too long. Jimjar flips the coin to the woman, who catches it and waves it at Jimjar as he bides farewell, winking at Grimnir as he goes.
The old gnome woman takes out a charcoal pencil and marks through the prices previously written under rings, then puts in a new price. 1000, 250, and 1250 respectively.
"It is good to have such good friends.. I'll take the ring with the shield then" Amused, Grimnir take from his bag of holding a large emerald (500gp), 2 zircon (100gp), 2 opals (100gp) and complete the transaction with 550gp
"I'll make sure to say that you are the best trader of the city.." Grimnir puts on the ring, waits for a magical sensation, then runs to meet Oorr.
I introduce myself in Gnomish, then start ritual-casting detect magic. After determining that the rings are magical and reporting to Grimnir, I ask--again in Gnomish--for directions to a good bookstore or scroll shop.
She directs you to a stall at the edge of the market. Built into the wall of the cavern is a door. Above the door is a scroll hanging from a post. It reads in Gnomish, "Treasured Stories."
You enter into a crowded room, stacked wall to wall with books, scrolls, and loose papers. A quick glance indicates most of the tomes are on mining, gems, and various underdark geological phenomenon. Several deal with elemental history, and the past wars of the deep gnomes, from before the incursion of the drow. There does not appear to be a proprietor. On the wall by the door, you see a box, with a slot for coins, and a message in gnomish that reads, "Thank you for your patronage."
If you want to spend time looking for something interesting, roll investigation, and let me know what you're looking for.
You spend the next 10 minutes rifling through the more mundane books for something ancient, arcane, or otherwise magical. As you pull aside a box of scrolls cataloging fungal growth throughout the ages, you find a small leather satchel. The satchel stands out, having finely etched patterns of symbols in the leather. You recognize some of these as arcane in nature and pick up the satchel.
Inside the bag you find 3 books. They are written in some form of elvish. You can't read it, but you feel certain it's drow in nature. The books are big enough that it's going to take you some time to read what's in them. Another quick glance around the room finds nothing else of interest. You head toward the exit, with the money box on the wall.

(OOG Do you leave any money as you leave?)
You drop your spare change in the box. You're not even sure how much is there, 10 gold? 1000? It's not relevant. You have some reading to do.
You open the door from the shop, and step back out into the Trader's Grotto, where a loud sound reaches your ears. Screaming erupts from the Northwest as large groups of gnomes, traders, and others begin running past you, some tripping and falling, then scrambling to get up and away. You hear the shouts of guards calling for reinforcements, but then you see some other guards rushing in the opposite direction, apparently not heeding the call.
Stepping out a bit farther you catch sight of your companions about 20 yards away from you. And beyond them, what appears to be a deep gnome guard, is lifted up into the air by an invisible force. He screams and grabs at his face as his skin starts to melt. The armor and weapons he is wearing suddenly sprout visible signs of rust and decay. There is a telltale shimmering that appears in a square area around the gnome. And then a second one about 15 feet to the left. Figures.
Everyone roll initiative as you are clearly (transparently?) under attack from two Gelatinous Cubes!
Oorr, Grimnir, Valrish, and your companions are about 20-30 feet back from where the oozes appeared. Belwar is another 20-30 feet behind that coming out of the book shop.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
still browsing between the market stalls, Grimnir suddenly hears the commotion. Looking at the place that all the gnomes are running from, he sees with difficulty 2 forms. Being with Glabbagool for so long, he now recognises this shimmering and distortion of the light: two gelatinous cubes are attacking.
Running to help, Grimnir makes sure it was not his old friend. The form is different and they do not respond to any telepathic contact. "Oh well, it seems we cannot have a single day to relax in this crazy underdark". A nice sound comes from his sword, when he unsheathes his new sharp weapon. "Amanita, show me what you can do!"
Targeting on of the cube, Grimnir unleashes 2 attacks with his sword and 2 attacks with his fist (flurry of blows, 1 ki point). After the attack, Grimnir retreats 20ft away from the 2 cubes.
Amanita 1: 23 damage piercing 10 Amanita 2: 27 damage piercing 6 Left hand 1: 18 damage piercing 7 > Cannot take any Reaction Left hand 2: 6 damage piercing 5 > STR save DC13 or push 15ft away
Jimjar was also in the market, replenishing his quarry and getting new sharp dagger when the alarm is raised. Following his dwarf companion, he run as far as he can and release two shots with his shortbow. "I'll bet 1 gp I can thrown my arrow at it before you deal your first blow Grimnir !".

With a swift beat of wings, Oorr takes himself in the air while evoking a bit of wind magic (Zephyr Strike). He lets the magic guide the crossbow's shot, the bolt flying at the same gelatinous cube hit by Grimnir. Zippy follows then Oorr's command to attack the very same cube.
Heavy Crossbow (with Zephyr Strike's effect): Attack: 22 Damage: 14
Knowing how dangerous these creatures can be, and seeing the gnomes running for cover, Valrish rages, and rushes towards Cube 1, piling on the attack from his comrades. Dawnbringer shines bright, eager to rid the world of these evil beings as Valrish brings down the sword twice in quick succession with both hands.
The first strike shreds the cube to pieces, and it falls apart in to a puddle of goo, unable to hold its form after the onslaught of attacks. Valrish thinks quickly, pivots, and strikes the second cube with his second attack.
(OOG First cube goes down, second cube takes the second attack damage.)
Eldeth's mind is on the poor engulfed gnome. She rushes up to the other side and tries to pull him free. Strength Check, DC 12: 2
Unfortunately she's unable to get a grip and the acid touch of the ooze causes her to jerk her hands back before she takes real damage.
