Summary: Wilson let's out a shot at the heavy, but again it bounces off his heavy armor. Sim, still engaging in a fight of archers, fires at the Tracker. His arrow sticking into the side of the Tracker (11) who still remains standing but alive. The heavy takes two swings, the first at Morgan - which they parry. The second turns and begins at Abigail, and in one motion continues the attack to Morgan. They both managed to duck out of the heavy blade. Abigail launches her attack from the crouch; the first strike landing (10), but the second is parried away. Lafetha's vines launch out at the melee; wraping around the helmet and crushing it (16). She then looks over at Sim, a burst of healing energy flurrying around him (+11).
Morgan re-engages in the melee, using the distraction to stab the figure (13). She takes a second swing, but only manages to find armor. The Tracker notices Lafetha's spell. He turns from his engagement, shooting two arrows quickly at her (9), before firing the snapshot at Wilson (8)
Round 5 (Begin)
Situation: Morgan and the Heavy are in melee. Abigail is about 10 feet away from them, as the Heavy was pulled by Lafetha's spell. (No ranged advantage, no ranged cover. Others moving into melee with the heavy will get advantage).
Blood runs out from the armor where the two large blows landed. The Tracker, is looking bad but is hanging on.
Summary: Sim takes aim, firing once again. He manages to land a killing blow on the tracker who slumps over and into the swamp. Wilson turns, aiming at the Heavy. This time, the bullet puncturing through the armor. The heavy glances at Wilson and Abigail, but decides to stay the course - engaged with Morgan. He finds two openings on their defense, slashing and shattering their spectral armor; the cold snapping back against the heavy in a surprise bit of pain.
Abigail steps up behind the figure. Her first swing gets parried away but the second manages to connect. The Heavy knees begin to buckle, breathing deep as more blood pours out from the new wound. Morgan takes two swings. The first is parried to the side, while the second leaves them exposed. The heavy, trying to get back into a more defensible position looks over.
A moss covered horse-sized hog charges at the Heavy. Goring him and dragging him off into the distance. Arms and legs flailing around as he's ripped apart from the large beast.
With the combat now done, the crew takes a minute to catch their breath. The opponents don't have much on them of worth (7 silver, 3 copper). Anything else is mostly ruined from the impacts and blasts. Hungry crocodiles begin to move in on the corpses. Going to make easy work of the now dead.
Packing back up - the crew heads out. Another few hours, passing through the swamp and back to the Mortis Foundation location. Once reaching inside.. things seem.. normal. Captain Wednesday slapping Abigail on the back with a bit of a laugh.
"WELL! You all did it. And you all look like you saw a nightmare," noticing most of them are covered in blood and grime from the swamp and combat. "Looks like a hefty bonus for us," he claps his hands together. "Go get the boat loaded up with those two crates. We set out in a few hours. So finish what you need."
(Boat Healed: 8)
Mr. Firmin is busy on the boat. The sails having been fixed; but is more akin to a quick job. Ropes and reinforcing bits of wood keeping the sail upright. The hull itself seeming nicely repaired; patched back in a way that won't cause any delays in speed. He gives a nod to the returning crew, while fixing up some materials. "Make sure we got supplies, only beginning this trip."
Once the cargo is loaded, you all have an hour or two before setting sail. ((You have not had a short or long rest yet; long rest will occur after setting sail))
What do you do?
If / When Setting Sail...
Captain Wednesday and Abigail pour over some maps. You're taking your cargo from this port, out of Kevinter, and into a larger river city in Ossus. With one of the boxes you have marked with Kevinter, it may mean crossing checkpoints and dealing with the authorities until you're in the clear. "This is your area of expertise. Best I see it... these are the most favorable ways to go. We've got to be careful though. Not exactly
1) Attempt to go up a series of waterfalls. Fastest Route. Biggest Payday / Biggest Risk. Skill Challenges dealing with climbing and hauling a boat up a waterfall. Failure results in broken boat and no payout / stranded in the wilds.
2) Attempt to sneak into Ossus territory via a raging river. Faster or Slower Route. Skill Challenges & Combat. Skill Challenges dealing with being on a boat going down a series of rocky river obstacles, and different encounters along the way. If successful, get there faster and a bigger reward. Fail, and might get there behind schedule and reduce award.
3) Take the normal route; follow the river out to sea - then back up river across Ossus. Social and NPC Challenges. Going along the regular route means regular checkpoints. How will you deal with guards and smuggling? This normal route doesn't have any bonus to getting through. Failure can vary from getting caught to prison, to losing the contract due to time.
Abigail slumps into the boat, glad to be back on track soon. She begins by taking a first look through the journals and papers that they grabbed up, trying to see if there is anything of value or interest within them.
When the time comes to eventually leave, Abigail suggest that they attempt to sneak into Ossus via the raging river. "It is risky, but not as risky as trying to go up the falls. It will also allow us to avoid the checkpoints and bureaucracy therein - never been a fan of such things."
Morgan puts the tent and pistol and other inventory things into their personal storage.
"I like the plan where we avoid bureaucracy, that stuff is the worst. Also I need to kill that shopkeeper if we ever come back here... Though looking at his wife life might be more of a punishment."
Sim sits and thinks for a bit and then goes to find the bugbear captain. He greets him and then tells him that he thinks there might be a spy in his fort due to the fact they knew exactly which crates to target and where to find them. Sadly he doesn’t know who it is but he should keep his ears open.
Then assuming he’s doesn’t immediately try to kill Sim, Sim heads back to the boat and gets his stuff ready.
" I have no desire to haul this tub up a waterfall, and the Authorities are no friends of mine so Raging river gets my vote if we are taking those. otherwise I'll follow orders"
Stowing his equipment he finds the highest place he can perch to fluff his wings out in the sun.
Sim's conversation with the Captain is short and brief. The bugbear giving a bit of a nod before muttering how much he hates being assigned to this post...
Returning, the crew gathers their materials and begins to set sail. Turning from the small port of the unmarked Mortis Foundation post in the swamp, and returning to the main river network.
"Good job back there," Captain Wednesday begins. Making the boat do a few wide turns; clearly still unsure how well maintained the sails are. "It was a decent sized boost, and some coin we can count on regardless of how this assignment goes." The mast creeks a bit from the strain of the ropes. "Now we've got about three weeks till our contract is due. Abigail here has plotted us a course that could get us there in two. Faster we get there, more we get paid. More we get paid, bigger your cuts of the pie."
There's a bit of water that splashes in from a few of the repaired seams of the hull. But nothing concerning. "Dyren's Pass should be flowing this time of year, and we're heading that way. Tight turns 'n drops that'll push up right against the rocks. Raging monsters that live in the storm and things in the sky that pick off those that get stuck too long," Rollo seems a bit excited at the idea of heading there. His eyes a little wide from it all. "Won't likely be finding any patrols and we should be able to slip past both Kevinter and Ossus border patrols. Ossus is prickly when it comes to non Ossians traveling their lands after they lost."
"I think it'll take us about a week to get to the best point to drop into the pass. Get to your shifts, assign yourself to posts, and get ourselves ready."
