We can cover that, part of the passage Del tells the skipper, handing over 15gp You'll have a toll on the way back and it'll feel worse paying duty on foodstuff. Livestock comma exotic he tails off with sarcasm what a great idea
We have to restore the cargo - having the ballast shuttled into an extra-dimensional tapestry probably messes with the ship's stability
Del as usual plays some traveling music appropriate to the situation - like that old river tune "Shippin' up to SC" (I'm a sailing gnome - Arasok I roam - climbing up the topsail I broke a bone - now I'm shippin' up to Essie, to trade and get back home) (the murphy's have a different version) and others. Maybe Sister Raven, newly musical, would like to jam

(( Elwin will just spend his time relaxing with the others; after his knighting duties, it feels to him like he hasn't spent much time with the group in a while. After just casual chit-chat and joking, he'll head to sleep. ))
Elwin shrugs, a relaxed, almost happy shrug. "Sure, let me attune to that." Strapping on the headband, he thought for a second, then weaved his hands together to cast a cantrip. Immediately, a tiny square mirror appeared in his hand, and he examined himself in it. "Not bad, not bad, I must say," he said grinning.
"Well, let's see if anything happens in an hour, yeah?"
The headband was attuned to a coven of hags who, unfortunately, all died in your last battle. Elwin is unable to receive any impressions from the headband.
In the morning, you awake to the sounds of ships' bells, chatter, and heavy objects being moved. The Tricky Trout is moving along the busy docks of Slate City. The smell of smoke form the lead refinery, and the grit of slate dust in the air are familiar to Elwin and Del.
"It's been a pleasure working with you, and I thank you again for getting us through the Flitheret toll gates," says Captain Bampf. "Our customers will be further down the river. Would you like to stay aboard until then, or shall we put you ashore here?"
The docks here are filthy and squalid, smelling of tar and long-dead fish. Slate dust and smoke is in the wind. ever-present. Hardly anybody even bothers to sweep or scrub around here: any clean area will be covered in soot and grit again within hours. Scroungers, beggars, thugs and layabouts hang around the docks, some hoping to pick up work or information, others hoping to pick up anything unwatched or undefended. Sometimes the dock workers attempt to run them off, but for the most part, they are viewed as permanent and inevitable, like the grit in the wind. Elwin breathed in deeply as he stepped off the boat. Looking around, he could only nod to himself... yep, still looked, felt--smelled--the same. He looked toward a far corner of the dock, and felt a tinge of nostalgia as he remembered having hidden there once, while playing tag with the other street kids, just watching the ships and workers as he hid. He'd wondered what happened to the ships and the people when they left, where they went, what they did when they got there.
Snapping himself back to the present, he bit his tongue as he overheard Del speak to Raven. Well, it had been years since he'd been to the abbey... perhaps the mothers and priestesses there had completely forgot about the hard-headed, rough kid that had given them so much trouble?
Yah, sorry 'bout that Del says, with Essie in his voice, as they head towards the Spire I swear it doesn't have to be like this, there gotta be a way to quarry cleaner
Raven scans the area as the group moves, constantly on alert, knowing the assassin is out there somewhere still. She eyes the people they pass with a intense gaze, making people uncomfortable as she passes. She wears the ornate sheath of the moonblade at one hip, and her rapier sheathed at the other. Her jet-black leather armor, coupled with her black cloak, gives most people pause as Raven walks past, her steps completely silent.
Raven follows Dell, and the others, as they make their way through towards the spire ahead.
Del has quite a swagger walking through town. Quentin looks around and tries to conciously remind himself that looks are not everything. This is the exact kind of place he was warned about never going to while in the Courts. Though he cannot help but secure everything on his person a little too well as he is on the lookout for pickpockets.
This early in the morning, the people you see on the streets are mostly either bleary-eyed miners and dock workers heading for their shifts, or bleary-eyed wastrels headed home from a night of drinking cheap liquor. Possibly there are a few bleary-eyed pickpockets and thieves among them, but none SO bleary-eyed that they attempt to approach the seasoned-looking band of adventurers passing through town. Del's familiarity with the area and street smarts have trained him to keep an eye on upper-story windows to avoid the hurled chamber pots of those who do not appreciate an early musical awakening.
You make your way through the city, and Elwin notices that everything seems smaller than when he left. And possibly even dirtier. He and Del blend in easily with the familiar territory. Raven is clearly a dangerous character and has the instant instinctive respect of every street survivor. Ethan and Skizzix are not so unusual as to draw any attention, but lingering stares fall on Mindartis, his fey wildness standing out like a contradiction of the urban environment surrounding him. As for Quentin, his rich clothing, cleanliness, and determination to STAY clean seems to attract resentful and hostile glares. A few of the muttering onlookers pick up cobblestones and horse dung form the street, but a fierce glare from the ever-observant Raven convinces them to pretend they weren't planning to throw them at the stainless young noble.
Long ago, the Abbey of the Unknown Goddess stood in the wilderness, distant from the small port town that became Slate City. Even after the city grew to engulf it, the Abbey maintained a large, wooded park and garden. As the centuries went by, bits of the land were sold off in the cause of the survival of the abbey and the unfortunates it sheltered, back when this section of the city had healthy businesses and residences. Now, the Abbey is surrounded on three sides by a negligible swath of nearly-bare earth, with patches of grass and scrawny saplings struggling to live in the grubby sprawl of the slums.
In front of the abbey is a large, cobblestone courtyard. It is strangely empty. Del and Elwin know that in the morning, it is usually full of street urchins, playing, shouting, and hoping there will be some breakfast for them. And the brothers and sisters of the Abbey would do their very best to make sure there was something for everyone, no matter how thin the gruel and the bread slices became. The doors to the dining hall are wide open, and the party enters. There are about thirty children seated at the tables, most of the chairs empty. It's clear that the gruel won't have to be watered today.
The brothers and sisters at the serving table look up as you enter, and one short, shaggy-haired elf sister hurries over. Its Sister Almara, the assistant Abbess. "Cantor Del! It's so good to have you back, and looking so well! Goodness, your hair! And such a lovely new instrument! The Abbess will want to speak to you, but if you would like, please join us for breakfast first. There's plenty for everybody, though, as you see," she waves at the mostly empty hall, "That's not entirely good news."
Suddenly her eyes fix on Sir Elwin. "Why, is that...oh my goodness! It is! Little Elwin!" She rushes forward to pinch your cheeks. "So long ago you disappeared, and we wondered whatever became of you! And look at you now--so tall and strong! And it's clear you made something of yourself. Are you the Sir Elwin Cold in the stories we've been hearing? You must tell us all what you've been up to!" She leans forward to whisper, "Don't tell the children, but it always seems to be the troublemakers that we remember most fondly."

A strange, unexpected mixture of emotions washed over Elwin as he cringed through the cheek-pinch. Embarrassment at the nickname, and being treated like a child again. Supposedly-begrudging warmth at the memories of Sister Almara's kindness. Pride at her knowing of his accomplishments. All on an unnoticed-until-now background of a sense of responsibility toward the abbey's well-doing, and that of the current crop of kids.
Trying to calm the inner turmoil, Elwin took her hand in his. "How are you, sister?" He smiled warmly--at least he hoped it seemed warm, and didn't betray the other emotions.
"Yes, I'm the one with the surname of Cold that you've been hearing about. A lot has been going on. Which brings me to ask... how are things here? I'm curious as to your... lack of new, um, charges."
He looked around the hall, appraising the youth assembled there. He remembered the hall as always full. If this had anything to do with the hags or the barleyman....
