"My lords, the people of Phandalin keep you in high regards. They must be quite concerned about the dragon and any help you can provide will surely be appreciated."
"The peoples of these area must aid one another against this dragon because it poses not only a danger to Phandalin but to the entire region."
The two kings talk to each other in Gnomish for a few minutes. There's a pause, then they seem to come to an agreement.
King Korboz turns to the party and bows. He goes to the side of their bed and pulls out a small chest. He sets it on the end of the bed and opens it. "You have earned these. Please, take them."
"Should we...the ones in the treasury..." King Gnerkli tilts his head.
"Not as good as these. Why they're here and they're there. But they are outsiders. Who knows what they find to be good."
Ketch bows, trying to act humble, and says "We would be happy with anything your highnessessesses believe may help us." Ketch will then approach and look into the box...
Chom gasps in amazement as the chest is opened, and the items revealed. "These are fantastic! Thank you ever so much your Highnesses! I've certainly always wanted a pointy hat, and this one even has moons and stars on it! And the wand! Such exquisite craftsmanship! What does it do? Can I have a go?" The little gnome reaches into the chest for the wand and gives it a flick in the direction of the group.
There's a loud crackling in the air, filling the room and bouncing off the walls. You almost feel it against your skin.
At the same second, you are blinded by a flash of light. As if a torch were suddenly lit right in front of your face. But with the expected yellow, there is red, green, blue, and purple.
You blink and as you open your eyes, the light is gone. Leaving only an imprint of itself in your vision that slowly fades with each blink.
"By Gruumsh!" Ketch exclaims, but then restrains himself... "I mean, umm... I am sure the Mayor will be quite pleased with these gifts." Ketch wasn't really sure of any such thing, Ketch was thinking powerful weapons and magical healing would be more helpful against a dragon, but one shouldn't overly insult a king. Even small, amusing, confounding, gnomish kings.
"Of course Xel-Thoth, you are quite right! Although the best way I find to become familiar with something is to try it out, over and over! Maybe the wand will do something different next time? Who can say?"
Gnerkli drops the items and runs back with Korboz to the other side of the bed as John rushes in. They take a deep breath, releasing as he lowers the axe.
The gnomes lead everyone out of the kings' chambers. There is a moment where they seem ready to take you down the way you are familiar with. Instead they take the other door out of their workroom and down a tunnel that opens into a large room with four alcoves carved into the walls. Each holds a bed big enough for two gnomes each.
They keep going toward the cave entrance. As the mist swirls under you, they point to a cave across the way. There is a winding path that goes back and forth a couple times leading to this cave. It was the one to the left of the one you entered at first, when you faced the crossbow machine.
"Always an adventure when you're with gnomes, isn't that right Horace? Come on everyone, food and beds await!" Chom begins to attempt to scramble down the canyon wall himself, with his familiar taking to the air, presumably to drastically increase its chance of survival.
With the thought of food in his head, John doesn't bother checking the sleeping accommodations. He'll stride forth in the direction indicated by the pair of inventors.
"I hope there is chicken.." he mumbles to himself.

Both kings look at the party.

Inside you see two things.
One is a hat, old and somewhat worn. The top is cone shaped, with a wide brim. It's dark blue, with gold colored moons and stars wrapped around it.
Next to it is a wand, a little newer in appearance. It's wood, with thin lines of colored metal running up it and a black metal tip.
Anyone who makes an Arcana check of 11 will know these are hat of wizardry and wand of pyrotechnics.
"Uhhhh... Maybe we'd prefer what's in your treasury..." Ketch mumble disappointedly, giving sidelong glances over at Chom and Xel...
((Ketch doesn't need an Arcana check to know these aren't his type of weapons for versus a dragon...))
Arcana: 7
Amazing, thank you dice!

Arcana Check:18
"Chom, I do believe we should be careful with these items. Especially since we aren't fully familiar with them".
Gnerkli hears Ketch and whispers something to Korboz before leaving. He returns with two items in his hands. "Any better?"
One is a pole, about a foot long. The other is a small amulet on a chain, made of copper.
((12 Arcana will show them to be pole of collapsing and clockwork amulet))
((wand of pyrotechnics
hat of wizardry))
"By Gruumsh!" Ketch exclaims, but then restrains himself... "I mean, umm... I am sure the Mayor will be quite pleased with these gifts." Having heard the loud crack echo down the stone halls, John comes charging back in to the room with his companions, his great axe in hand.
"What was that?!" He asks loudly, as he takes in a less than threatening scene, his axe drooping in his grip now.
Gnerkli drops the items and runs back with Korboz to the other side of the bed as John rushes in. They take a deep breath, releasing as he lowers the axe.
A moment later, Fibblestib and Dobbledab run in.
"We're ready."
"Come on."
"You sleeping here?"
"Pretty sure can fit you."
"Why, yes! That is excellent news!" John says, holsters his great axe to his hip. "I can always use a good sleep after a good meal!
He'll follow after the two gnomes, his mouth watering.
"There is food?" Ketch follows. Seems a good time to eat and celebrate... As they completed their mission, after a fashion at least.

"Since you're hungry."
"It's the fastest way."
"See if good to sleep in."
"Come on."
And they both scramble down the canyon wall.
"Always an adventure when you're with gnomes, isn't that right Horace? Come on everyone, food and beds await!" Chom begins to attempt to scramble down the canyon wall himself, with his familiar taking to the air, presumably to drastically increase its chance of survival.

"I hope there is chicken.." he mumbles to himself.
“As Gruumsh says, ‘If you can’t fight, eat. If you can’t eat, sleep.’” Ketch grumbles and hopes to do at least two of the three...
The gnomes wade thru the shallow pond, past the small islands and onto the winding path. They look back to make sure you are following, waving at you.
"The tunnel on the left!" They both shout and then go up and into the cave entrance.
