The sky darkens as you mount up once more (except for Hox) and trudge across the marsh-like island. Tanakir has trouble tracking anything through the tangled swamp, spending as much time clearing a path forward. Thus, it is past sundown when he glimpses a tall, mounted figure in the shadows, standing motionless just a hundred yards ahead, and alerts the party.
For Tanakir:
From your limited battles with oozes, you know that it is difficult to fight them with metallic weaponry, as they tend to be very acidic in nature.
Tanakir announces his information to the group while they march, "Change weapons to ones not made of metal, if you have them. Otherwise, make sure you won't mind losing whatever you're using."
Is the figure mounted, or does it look more like a standing lizard-taur corpse?
"Fists or my bow?" Aradurk ponders aloud. "Are they flammable? I have some oil I have been saving for just such an occasion. Maybe I could use both my bow and the oil."

Tanakir holds up a hand, gesturing for everyone to stop. He whispers, "I think I've found what happened to the elder's mate. Invisible ooze, up ahead, is my guess. Be on guard, there might be others. I will lure it out, be prepared for an attack."
If no one has any objects, once everyone is ready, Tanakir will stride towards the figure, one hand on his club, speaking once he's a short distance (20-30 ft) away from the party, "Hail, who's there? I am an adventurer, are you in need of help?"
If anyone needs a non-metal weapon, Tanakir has a quarterstaff.
Tanakir moves forward and calls out to the figure. No reply comes, and neither does the figure move. It seems to be standing quite still.
For Tanakir:
As you move forward in the twilight, more shapes begin to stand out among the darkness of the swamp. Past the figure you called to are another half dozen figures, all standing quiet and still. They all appear to be mounted, and the closer you get, the more your suspicions are confirmed. These are centaurian lizardfolk, all standing perfectly still with their backs turned to you.
A brilliant display of colors appears around the figure, dazzling patterns weaving through a large space around it before disappearing. Once again, the figure shows no signs of movement.
For Tanakir:
None of the figures react to the hypnotic pattern. You see no movement from them.
"Are they frozen? Stone? Mezmerised in some way?" Killian calls out to Tanakir. "It is possible they are not the threat, but rather whatever made them this way."

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
For the moment, the only magic that Tanakir detects as he moves closer is on the party's equipment. Approaching the figures, you see the reason for their stillness; in total, eight lifelike stone statues of centaurian lizardfolk, both male and female, stand in this area of the swamp, six clustered nearest your approach while the other two are located a hundred feet away. The statues depict these forms in some sort of combat, with spears held at the ready or thrust outward toward some imaginary foe.
Ricky will gives the statues a sideways glance and slowly lowers her eyes, looking to the ground.
Ahm not aware of no ochres or jellies that turn folk ta stone. What might we be lookin' at here? And when ah say lookin' at I mean Let's Not Look At It...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tanakir examines the statues, wondering if they died fighting a singular enemy or were lured in one at a time by their fallen comrades. Do the statues all appear to be attacking/avoiding the same target, or could they have been fighting a swarm or not fighting at the same time? Also, what would Tanakir know of that could turn people (lizardtaurs) to stone?
Hox takes a tentative sniff of the statues, "Maybe like stone fish man, the one with many eyes?" He looks to the party as he takes his dagger out, ready to poke the hybrid statues.

With a sigh, Gruun secures his Greataxe to his pack and takes the Halberd off. While walking it makes a good walking stick.
Hox raises his bow, "Hox has many arrows!"

For Tanakir:
The form does bear a resemblance to the old centaurian creature you met in the cave, and it has not moved an inch since you started to inspect it.
